when i want a cold cut sandwich i go here to get their un-wich. its a lettuce wrap that you can customize or order any existing sandwich as. all flavors are awesome, my favorites are the gargantuan, beach club, club lulu, veggie club, blt, and the vito. the gluten free menu is the un-wich, chips and drinks only. tip: for a unwich dont go for the slim sandwiches, unless that is what you want-the unwiches for them tend to be smaller. to get more bang for your buck, get the regular or bigger sandwiches as unwiches. the more meat and free condiments you add the bigger your wrap will be. :)
Ask them to change gloves, put down fresh paper along the counter as they prepare an Unwich -- lettuce wrap. Also, ask for mayo and mustard in the individually wrapped package. We usually have good success when we give these directions for our food preparation.
You have to order as an unwich which is in a lettuce wrap, and specify that you need it to be gluten free. They will give you mayo packets instead of spreading it for you to eliminate cross contamination. Unfortunately last night I was glutened. Not sure if it was cross contamination from the counter or they didn't change gloves or what.
They have a dedicated place where they will prepare lettuce wraps. I used to eat here weekly until I developed my intolerance, the wraps are good but not the same as a sandwich. If they had gluten free bread, this would easily be a five star review.
Unwich option great for quick lunch. I read the Beef is not GF. Also the cheese is questionable if you are extremely sensitive do not risk it. Should be fine with other meats. Chips are all GF. As with most places like this cross contamination is very possible beware.
Make sure you state you have a gluten allergy - they will change their gloves for you. but apparently you also need to clarify that you want mayo and mustard packets on the side (so they don't cross-contaminate with the mayo and mustard buckets that the spatulas are constantly dipped into and wiped on bread) As long as you clarify all that, I've eaten here a couple of times with no issues
This is not really a safe place. Unwiches are still prepared on crumb covered cutting board area. Way too much cross contamination here. Update! I revisited Jimmy Johns to give it another try. When you tell them you need an Unwich because of gluten intolerance they will all do a glove change, make your Unwich on paper- not on the cutting board. Great job! Happy to eat here again.
They have gluten in their cheese. Be careful.
Fantastic. The unwhich is a lettuce wrap of whatever you want. I love the Hunter's, which is roast beef and cheese. They are well trained for allergies at this location. They put on new gloves. They put down fresh paper and make the unwhich on the paper. They give mayonnaise packets instead of using the shared spatula. There is always the possibility of cross contamination, but I have never gotten sick here unlike other sandwich places. Beware the tuna salad, it has Gluten but not from the mayonnaise, lol. Jimmy John's has become our go to for bringing home a quick meal.
Couldn't find anything open on New Year's day in Tampa. Thought I would see if Jimmy John's had any GF options. First gal was clueless, 2nd one offered the Unwich, lettuce wrap instead of a bread roll. OK, what is in the "tasty sauce" on the Totally Tuna, is it GF? More blank stares. Finally the "manager?" said oil, vinegar and salt. OK, give me the Totally Tuna Unwich. They proceed to plop the lettuce directly on the counter where they are cutting bread. I just rolled my eyes, fortified myself with GlutenX, and went for it. Will know soon. If you are full blown Celiac, avoid this place like the plague!
I will start by saying that the person that did prepare my food did set up an area to make my unwich and switched gloves. But the attitude of the cashier when I asked if there were anything else besides the bread I needed to avoid is the reason I gave Jimmy John's one star. The cashier laughed at my allergy and started mocking me about asking about certain things in the sandwiches. I will not be returning to this establishment, especially when I can go a little bit down the road and have way better food and not be mocked at O'Baby's.
They do have a lettuce wrap option, but it was pretty bad. Too much lettuce and not enough filling. My wrap was also overflowing with mayo so it was really messy to eat. Originally I asked if they could make the wrap into a salad instead and they said no, so the wrap is really your only option :(
You can order any sandwich lettuce wrapped (they call it an un-wich) If you tell them you have a gluten allergy they will change their gloves. Each sandwich is made on its own paper, so it's pretty safe. The staff at this location let me know that the roast beef that they have does contain gluten, so steer clear of that.
A lettuce sandwich is a pretty crappy option
Stayed at Stoney Creek hotel & wanted delivery (actually pizza, but no gf delivery was available). We tried our first Jimmy Johns. They were very fast and very good! Our delivery man explained that they took care in assembly of our wrap, adding that his mother is celiac & very involved in local Celiac awareness. Our food was very delicious!
Ask for an unwich/lettuce wrap
