My husband is severe celiac and Joe's is a safe place for us to eat at when we travel. It's good food and safe for celiacs. It is a bit pricey but worth it.
Before I ordered, I clearly stated I had a gluten and soy allergy to the waitress. I repeated after giving my order to make sure nothing had soy in it. Getting my meal gluten free was not a problem although they can't guarantee no cross contamination. Not many choices but doable. Getting my meal soy free was not getting though to her at all. My grilled chicken, broccoli and rice were all covered in a "butter blend" that contains soy. Sent it back only to receive the broccoli and rice back with the butter blend on it again. Manager came out asking what we needed having no idea what the problem was. It appeared she was running the kitchen so I assume the waitress didn't denote on my order or communicate to the kitchen staff my allergy.
Not only was the service bad, but I had to send my meal back 2 times before it was made correctly and actually gluten free. The wait the first time was very long despite them not being busy at all. And, after all of that, I got sick (and I'm not super super sensitive). I'm assuming that they just took the croutons off of the salad, instead of remaking it. Super disappointed, will not be returning.
My husband, infant and I had the most wonderful experience at this Joe's Crab Shack last night! We had never been to one before. I'm an extremely sensitive celiac who is scared to eat out but we're traveling so I try to choose wisely. We were greeted by two friendly hostesses who happily gave me a gluten free menu. Our waitress Vannah was absolutely fantastic. She went out of her way to make sure my food was completely gluten free. I ordered the bucket of shrimp with corn and potatoes as additional sides since the shrimp is actually an appetizer. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, which is hard to find at a restaurant. I also got a barefoot on the beach drink which was wonderful and well priced at $9 considering the size. I almost always have a reaction at a restaurant because I am so sensitive, but I didn't even have a slight reaction. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!
The GF official menu was limited to crab. Our server was super helpful and arranged for me to have salmon with no seasoning and white rice and a salad. It was over cooked and pretty tasteless. We all waited a long time for our food and think it sat a long time under heat lamps. They tried, great view, not not great experience. Makes for an expensive gluten free and taste free experience.
Absolutely amazing! They had options for a person with celiacs. The king crab is delicious! I've been back twice since I was diagnosed and haven't had any problems.
"Just changed their gluten free menu," so if you want only OBSCENELY OVERPRICED $40/lb steamed crabs with no flavor other than steamed then this is the place to be. You could get crabs at a 4 star restaurant for the pricing here.
The waiter did not know what gluten was. She had to go talk to the manager and then their options were slim and obvious. It's simply seafood that if it isn't gluten free then they can't cook.
Great gluten free menu & friendly atmosphere.
waitstaff is very uninformed. woman brought me out a salad with shrimp with croutons on it after I told her 6 times I cannot eat bread and her reaction was "oh i can bring it back and take the croutons off for you" I about lost it. will not be dining here again.
Joe's have a GF menu. They say that the spice they put on the boiled fish is GF, but I asked for it on the side in case. We ordered one of the baskets with crab legs, potatoes, shrimp, and sausage. It was so delicious, and the sausage was a real treat! Did not get any gluten, and absolutely delectable! Seems to reasonably priced for what you get.
They had a separate gluten free menu which was nice. Decent amount of options. I had a bucket of seafood with potatoes and corn. Waiter didn't know about gluten free much but she went back to talk to the chef to double check everything I ordered, which was nice. Didn't get sick and had a very fun time!
LOVE THE FOOD AND SERVICE!!!! Will, the manager and Daniel our server are awesome. The GF menu may seem small but Daniel and Will worked with us and made several awesome dishes. I was worried that our first wonderful experience would be just that. One time wonder. However, after our second visit, it is with great pleasure to day it was awesome. If you can, ask for Daniel. He too has food sensitivity, so he is thorough.
