Very few places in Israel can hold a candle to the establishment of Johnny’s Falafel. Not only is the food amazing. The care and dedication they have to offer 100 percent gluten free food is beyond almost any other restaurant I’ve seen. A dedicated fryer and dedicated untouched sides for those with celiac and some of the most delicious gluten free pitas I’ve ever had. Not only is the food amazing, but so are the staff. Careful with the food and how much of what and if you want spicy and if you’re enjoying yourself. If possible I would rate high above 5 stars and come here as much as possible. A word of advice for those who wish to come: Call ahead and place your order about 10 minutes in advance because all the gluten free meals are made to order and saves you a wait.

This is my favorite place to eat in Tel Aviv. It’s been open since 1955, and it’s obvious why: fresh, delicious food. Tell the owner or his helper at the counter that you are “allergy” and they will prepare yours separately. You don’t even have to look at a menu, it’s only pita stuffed with falafel (fried chickpea balls). When it’s about done, he will ask what toppings you want on it and how spicy. They apply the toppings in the back from clean containers of separated foods, not from the ones in the front that have been used in gluten pitas. He often gives me 3 extra falafel balls to take home. It’s about 30 shekels for a pita sandwich and a drink. The gluten-containing falafel pitas have fried dough on top. I love this place and have been twice already. I am a very sensitive celiac and have not gotten sick.

Owner/manager/counterperson couldn't be any more knowledgeable. In fact, grilled me on my level of intolerance to accommodate order. GF. Pita. Bread. Finally didn't feel like the Boy in the Bubble at the falafel place!

Awsome! Small and friendly family run place since the 1950's. The owner told me that their falafel never had gluten, but after they learned about celiac, they took it upon themselves to make sure to avoid cross contamination: they prepare it in a separate designated area. The falafel is really good, always freshly made.
