Looked amazing, but just not for anyone with celiac. When I went in I asked if they had options for a severe gluten allergy which I use instead of celiac because no one typically understands. I was told everything is gluten free unless I ordered flour tortillas. Well upon sitting and reviewing the menu, nothing was marked gf and many items said fried flour tortillas, etc. so I immediately knew they did not actually understand all the things gluten could be in, seasoning etc. and cross contamination in fryers. We decided on trying K’bola Cuban instead.
Slow service to start. Our waiter mentioned the chips are corn but fried in a shared fryer so not safe for Celiac or allergies. He mentioned the items that would be safe like the street tacos, enchiladas and fajitas with corn tortillas. My plate was brought out with a fried chip as decoration in the middle of my rice and beans which meant my sides were contaminated. I wouldn’t eat here again.
We were also told that everything is gluten free except the flour tortillas! Guacamole was chunky and delicious!
Server did not know for sure what was safe but was helpful and asked for us. We were told the tortilla chips were not safe - shared Grier- but they brought us corn taco shells instead. Had the guacamole which was made fresh at the table and wonderful, cheese quesadillas and street tacos.
We don’t have too many gluten free Mexican restaurants where I’m from so this was a treat. Almost all of the menu is gluten free as long as it has corn tortillas. We almost ate our weight in chips and salsa and dip. It was DELICIOUS!!! I ordered some tacos and an enchilada a la carte and in retrospect I should have gotten a more dressed up meal. The tacos were a little bland but that’s because there isn’t much too the a la carte dishes. The rest of the family got dinners (chimichangas, shrimp fried rice, street tacos, fish tacos) and loved them, full of flavor. We loved it so much we can’t wait to go back!
If you get corn tortillas for anything then you are safe. Then just ask if the sauce has flour in it. Most of the staff know what’s in the sauces. I get enchiladas, fajitas, and arroz con pollo
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant! I have never been glutened here. I eat the chips and salsas without any problems as well as the enchiladas, fajitas and arroz con pollo. There are other options but that is what I usually get.
Really good margaritas
Can't say much good about my meal, it was sloppy looking, the guacamole was brown and I was already swelling up with a reaction before I left the restaurant. My husband enjoyed his taco fries. We have eaten at this chain before in VA Beach and it is always great, but this one in Williamsburg VA was just awful.
Very limited for a Mexican restaurant, only the street tacos and an enchilada dish said GF. No appetizers, the nachos and chips and queso dip should be able to be GF. The meal was good, the waiter knew immediately what had gluten when asked, just disappointed with what little choice I had. Other than that, it was a good GF experience (did get heartburn, but we also had air travel right after eating, so can't totally blame the meal!) Also, a word of warning, the El Dragon margarita had gummy bears in the dry ice, I don't find many brands to be GF, so I picked them out, didn't get sick but I think I may be becoming asymptomatic, after 16 years GF!
Not gluten free! I alerted my sever several times of my allergy, of having celiac and asked for a gluten-free menu. He said the menu was marked and some parts were. I chose tacos that were available gluten free as long as I ordered a corn shell. I alerted the staff again of my allergy, of a need for them to change gloves, and for the requirement of getting corn shells. Upon delivery I checked with the food runner again that my food was gluten-free with corn shells. He assured me it was. I took a bite into a FLOUR shell. 2/3 of my racks were corn shells, the one I bit into was flour. I spent the next 2 1/2 days horribly sick and in bed. Don’t recommend!
There are barely any gluten-free options and what is marked gluten-free isn’t done so with seasonings and sauces, just the main tortillas and whether the food is breaded or not. There are barely any options on the large menu for the gluten-free food.
The food is good for others! I ate here before celiac and enjoyed my food, the prices, and the options available. I know this location I struggled with, but other locations I have had success with.
Staff was completely unknowledgeable about their food and menu. Nobody had a clue about gluten. They brought our fajitas out and had a red bottle of stuff they sprayed on the chicken. When asked what it was... they say SOY SAUCE. We paid for drinks and left. Good place to get drunk. Don’t eat the food.
