Great restaurant! Waiter was able tp guide us on the gluten-free options. The chips unfortunately were not recommended due to gluten. I had the fajitas and they were delicious. No reactions. Recommended.

I have eaten at La Cueva Cafe several times. I am very sensitive to gluten and have never gotten sick. About 80% of the menu is GF and the wait staff is very knowledgeable about GF options. The food is excellent. I have add the fajitas and enchiladas. My wife, who is not gluten sensitive, loves the food too. Excellent northern New Mexican food.

They have 4 dinner plates that are gluten free: tacos, enchiladas, chile rellenos, or fajitas - all excellent. Friendly staff & no gluten exposure for our celiac kids - Win, win.

Our lunch this was wonderful. Food was excellent and Jose was very familiar with gluten free and celiac. No reaction other than it is so nice to have great GF Mexican food. Celiac friendly.

Really great food and the waiter was knowledgeable about gluten free options. Both red and green chile options were gluten free as well. Great little place!

Items on the regular menu are gluten free. They don't have a separate gf menu. I had the combo plate with green. It was good. The meat in the tank and enchilada were only salt and peppered at most. The sauce carried the meal.

So happy we stopped by this restaurant and worth the wait. The food was delicious and the waiter was very knowledgeable about what had gluten and what didn’t. Definitely try the Frito pie and our daughter who has celiacs had the enchiladas. Can’t go wrong with either the red or green chili. Best meal we’ve had since being in NM

Delicious Taos restaurant!! They do not have GF marked on the menu but they knew right away which items were safe (tacos, enchiladas, rellenos, and fajitas). Food was great and service quick.

The staff was very knowledgeable about GF options. Unfortunately their chips are fried in a communal fryer, however the staff asked if I was Celiac and and told me they would not be safe for me, so good for them! The food was delicious and many GF options.

Staff very knowledgeable and careful. Waitress brought everyone separate plates for the ceviche with instructions not to dip the chips in it but to spoon out the ceviche onto plates to avoid cross contamination! They brought me warm corn tortillas for the ceviche. Had the Chipotle shrimp enchilada, delish! Also able to have the flan.... yummmmm 😊

I drive 2.5 hrs each way to visit La Cueva at least 4 times per year, just to get their gluten free Chile rellenos. They are incredible, the people are amazing, and the food has NEVER made me feel gluten sick! 100000% recommend.

Staff was very helpful. The guacamole was delicious and they brought corn tortillas for my daughter. She ate the chicken tacos with the beans and rice and thought it was delicious. Great unassuming place with a quaint garden. Highly recommend.

When we ordered we wanted the chips and guacamole and the waitress asked if we had celiac and warned us that the chips were cross contaminated with flour. She was very knowledgeable about the food ingredients that they have and we did not get sick!!!

Chips are not gluten-free, which was a big disappointment to my daughter. The server was knowledgable and helpful about what was gluten free. While we felt confident that our food was safe, it was not very satisfying/tasty. To be fair, we are also vegetarian, and maybe the meat is more tasty than the stuff that is both gluten-free and veggie. We were there a couple weeks ago. It was a busy evening and we were able to get a seat on the "extra" patio, but we were told no alcohol could be served there.

Advertises in the front sign on the building NO GLUTEN NO WHEAT but my husband ordered a shrimp cocktail special and he was served gluten saltines crackers next to the nacho chips on the plate. When I mentioned it to the waiter, he admitted that there are some items (5) like the chimichanga are made with the flour tortilla. When I asked if it is in a fried separate fryer from the Chile rellano which is also fried, I felt like he danced around the answer but then assured me that my dinner was GF. I ate it and was fine but just beware. I told him that he needs to update the menu of the items that are NOT GF. Since it advertised Totally Gluten Free, I did not question anything.

Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful in navigating their menu. Chips are not GF. They are fried in the same fryer as their chimichangas so our server brought us steamed corn tortillas. Food was excellent! Highly recommended!

I am EXTREMELY cautious about eating at a non-dedicated gf restaurant. Waited 24 hrs before submitting review and I did not have any reaction!!!! I had the fajitas - waiter points out about 5+dishes that were safe. GREAT choices! Outstanding Food! Would definitely return.

The server was very knowledgeable and explained what they could/couldn’t do gluten free. She also explained their procedures for keeping the food safe. I had the enchiladas and my wife had the taco platter. We couldn’t have been happier with the overall taste and quality of the food. We then had the flan for dessert, perhaps the best flan I’ve ever had. I’m a very sensitive celiac and I had absolutely no reaction.

Wonderful experience! I am allergic to gluten and dairy. They were very knowledgeable and the food was delicious. The fryer is NOT dedicated gluten free, so I just ordered the enchilada dinner. It was healthy and I didn’t get sick at all.

This place is great for someone with celiac. We went twice while vacationing in Taos.
Yes
Knowledgeable staff. Tasty food. No reaction. Avoid the chips - they are fried in the same oil as glutinous items.
They have many gluten free options. I am also allergic to soy and they cook their food in soy oil. They were willing to steam food for me. It was good.
Yes
The menu isn’t marked but our waitress was knowledgeable. She said we couldn’t have anything fried (including tortilla chips) because it’s done in a shared fryer. Except that the chile rellano is GF and fried in its own safe fryer. We loved our enchiladas. Food did take almost an hour to come out though, and that was at 3:30 in the afternoon when it wasn’t very busy.
Yes
The staff was knowledgeable about gf and celiac. But the meal took forever (slow service) and was pretty mediocre in comparison to all the rave reviews. Safe meal but skippable.
Yes
The staff gave a full explanation of the foods that are friendly and that I can eat. Super good service and very friendly!
Yes
Service was slow and a long wait, but the food was delicious. They don’t list GF items but the staff will make sure it’s Gf and safe. Delicious!
Yes
Tortilla chips in a shared fryer, but knowledgeable staff and AMAZING food.
Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Plenty of GF options. Best place for a Celiac to get authentic food.
Yes
Staff recommended celiac friendly options that were delicious! Highly recommend!

Had the combination plate and it was delicious. Sat outside, Very nice
Thanks for the recommendation! Great food, no ill effects
I eat at this place every time I am in Taos (a few times a year). Every server I have had knew exactly what I could eat and also understood what celiac disease meant. I love their shrimp enchiladas but everything is good.
Yes
The server knew exactly what was GF/not GF. Food was brought out super quickly and was great!
Extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff and the food was wonderful! Plenty of gf options and totally safe for celiacs like myself. It's a tiny little place that doesn't look like much on the outside but it's very clean and cute! We sat inside but there is a back patio with more seating as well.
Yes
Great place and VERY knowledgeable about Celiacs. Our waiter told us the things we couldn’t get since most items were gluten free. Instead of chips, we had warm corn tortillas to dip in the salsa and guacamole. The food was delicious and loved sitting in the courtyard. Great place!
Yes
Traveling with 2 kids and this place was great. My kids had chicken tacos with no problems and they had flan for the first time. They shared one and immediately begged for another. No dedicated fryer - so bring your own tortilla chips.
Yes
The staff was wonderful. They knew all about Celiac and were able to make sure I was safe to eat what I ordered. I'm Celiac and dairy free and had the Huevos Rancheros with no cheese. It was delicious! My non-gf husband also really enjoyed his dish too (combo plate).
Yes
Food was delish and they were super aware of all my concerns. The combo plate let me try a little of everything. Wish I had room to try the flan.
Despite its humble appearance, this place is a fantastic dining experience. Fine dining service in a casual atmosphere. Many menu items are gluten free. New Mexico cuisine doesn't get any better than this!
