My husband and I dined at Le Saotico last week and it was one of our favorite restaurants in Paris. The staff was very accommodating and knowledgeable (as previous reviews have mentioned, the owner has celiac disease). The food was delicious and we loved the ambiance of the restaurant. Highly recommend if you’re in the Palais Garnier area!
It’s one of the best restaurants for quality meets price we have ever dined at! Restaurant Le Saotico is a great French Restaurant in 2e, central, close to all main tourist attractions. The waiter told us that it has been difficult to be celiac in Paris until recently, but getting better. One reason must be Restaurant Le Saotico. Frankly, it’s so sad to walk by hundreds of restaurants you only could dream of, and know it would make you sick. But this was a great reprieve and opportunity to taste French specialties. We had oysters, salmon tartar, and their specialty duck leg and duck breast. Loved it!
Went here back in May 2023 and had the most amazing duck confit and potatoes — highly recommend! The owner herself is celiac, so I felt super safe, and she was even kind enough to give tips on gf groceries and such in Paris (I.e. charcuterie meat is often cross-contaminated or contains gluten, so avoid buying or ordering it in France). I’d happily go again, but be sure to not be in a rush, as it’s nearly impossible to get anyone to come back to your table after you’ve received your meal, haha.
My daughter, age 9, is very sensitive to any cross contamination with gluten and did great after eating here. The owner has celiac and was so kind and helpful. She told us she always wanted to have a restaurant where anyone, regardless of food allergies, could eat. She truly made us feel welcome and that our concerns about gluten were not a problem.
It was so good, we went back the next evening as well, per my daughter's request. I adore the owner; she bent over backwards to make sure my daughter enjoyed her meal. A nice selection of choices for adults and kids alike. We had the duck confit, sea bream, hamburger and risotto. All were delicious. They even have a nice selection of gluten free desserts.
If I could give it 10 stars, I would!
The owner and the waiter were accommodating and knowledgeable about our request for glutenfree dishes. Most of the dishes on the menu are naturally without gluten. Very friendly service and helpful with suggestions for an authentic French experience. We had 3 courses and were very happy with all!
Very good family restaurant, great food and friendly, knowledgeable staff. The bartender is gluten free and the owner is celiac so they know very well. Almost anything on the menu can be made gluten free if it’s not naturally (which most was). I had the tomato and mozzarella carpaccio to start, beef tartare with salad and fries for dinner, and crème brûlée for dessert and all were incredible! Some of the best beef tartare I’ve ever had. I also tried my husbands duck and it was cooked to perfection. Cute restaurant as well, all around a good night!
Though it’s not a dedicated facility, the owner has celiac and was very accommodating and marked all the items that were safe for me to eat. My husband got to have an authentic French meal and I had a multi course GF dinner. We loved the atmosphere and the food! Would definitely go back here.
Although I missed the opportunity to dine at this restaurant last night (they’re open Monday to Friday and I’m only in Paris for the weekend), I spoke at length with the owner Anne whose understanding of dealing with allergies as a restauranteur was quite amazing. She assured me that the entire menu ( even deserts) is grain free and I felt that this would be an entirely safe option for me. This is the first fine dining restaurant I’ve encountered that is more than gluten free, being grain free as well, and I certainly will dine here on my next trip to Paris. Merci beaucoup, Anne!!
Sweet little French family-owned restaurant. The hostess Anna is gluten free / dairy free and her husband, the chef, fully understands celiac/allergen preparation. Had the salmon tartare, tuna with risotto, and crème brûlée, all delicious. Slow service but a very lovely experience. I recommend going early or making a reservation as it was packed by 8:30pm.
We really enjoyed this restaurant. The owner, Anna, is a wonderful hostess. She is GF and takes great care to ensure her guests have a delicious and safe meal. She speaks English so no worries about any misunderstandings. We loved the confit de canard, risotto with salmon and the Dorade (fish). There are several gf dessert options. We tried the Vacheran which was light and refreshing. Fun decor and music. We will be back!
it was great. our daughter has celiac disease. the boss kept an eye on everything that came to our table. She explained what she was allowed to eat, what she was allowed to snack on. Service was also great. The wine recommendation was also excellent. we will be back..
Not sure I understand why this place is so popular. My food was fine, but unremarkable. I had the escargot and the duck confit. Both were cooked nicely, but bland. The duck confit and potatoes were flavoured with salt and that seemed to be about it - perhaps they simplified the menu to be gluten free - not sure - but it was a bit too simple for my tastes.
Needing a gluten-free meal also seemed to cause confusion. My first course came with puff pastry on top, despite saying multiple times I needed gluten-free. The server seemed confused and eventually confirmed that it was not gf.
The entire upstairs floor where I was seated was 100% English speakers. That was a bit funny.
The staff were all very, very nice. Also they had some nice wines and offered an English menu. I might go back and try something else at some point, but didn’t really love it.
I won't take long to say what others have noted -- the owner is Celiac, her husband does the cooking -- they understand it. Most of the menu (aside from anything bread/breaded) can be GF. A variety of choices. Important in my case is that I was in France for a business trip. That means that many times I am at the mercy of others on where we eat and I don't usually get choices or end up in a risker situation than I would like. I made the reservation for the group, and I am the only GF person. That is always stressful, as you want it to be good for others also -- and not just so they are accommodating your special diet. All guests raved about the food, in fact, I was told that the duck was the absolute best one gentleman had ever eaten. The wine was great, food amazing, dessert was fabulous also. I had the pumpkin soup, fish (dorado), and the crème brulee. Also, you need a reservation. It is small, and they have limited hours. I will return when I am in Paris again. Also, easy to get to from the Metro station (Richelieu-Drouot).
Great experience! My dad and I are GF, my mom isn’t, and we all loved it here. Owner is also gluten free which put us at ease. Food was DELICIOUS and it was so nice to leave the tourist-centric restaurants. I definitely recommend! No GF bread, but otherwise I believe everything can be gluten free.
Food was delicious! No issues with my GF husband. Everything was great
The restaurant was lovely, with a warm atmosphere. Many of the dishes are gluten free or can be made gluten free, so you just have to ask for what you want and they will tell you if a gluten free option exists. The owner is also gluten-free which gave us some reassurance too. I had a salmon fillet with vegetables and it was absolutely delicious. For dessert, I had the crème brûlée which was also lovely. Overall, a very good restaurant.
An absolute gem of a find! Staff was very knowledgeable and kind! Both our mains where delicious and the creme brûlée was the perfect end to the meal. We didn’t have long due to going to a show but the staff ensured we got a 3 course meal in the time frame we had. Must try for French food in Paris!!
Fantastic experience for ALL 4 of our dinners (2 with celiac) . Owner/GM (?) has proper celiac and was all over our gluten and lactose free needs. Food was the best of our trip. Really nice to have a proper French meal as many of the gluten free restaurants we frequented in France were something other than traditional French. Another bonus is that the non-celiacs could have a perfectly normal meal. Highly recommended by this careful celiac if you are venturing off the dedicated gluten free kitchens.
Loved our dinner here! The servers were very knowledgeable about gluten free options and really most options could be made gluten free. I had foie gras, duck and the salted caramel moose for dessert. It was all excellent! My only complaint is that they didnt have any gluten free bread to accompany the appetizers.
Le Sâotico was on a few sites like this one, Trip Advisor, and Google maps. They don’t have a dedicated GF menu, but were very knowledgeable about gluten free options. Lovely service, polite, prompt, welcoming. The menu was more extensive than many of the more “tourist trap” places in the larger streets. Delicious tomato salad with fresh mozzarella and herbs. Husband had the duck leg, I had the duck breast. Very good, though the duck might have benefited from a sauce or Demi glacé. This place seemed very authentic- all French people eating around us. Lovely decor, light jazz. Very worth the 12 minute walk from our hotel in the Opera district!
Owner has celiac and is very nice. They could make almost anything on the menu gluten-free except fried things and pastas, which was only 4 or 5 dishes out of plenty. Food was amazing and fresh. Felt very safe and owner took over our table bc of GF and spoke English very well.
At first the manager came out and greeted us and asked if one of us was a celiac (she is celiac too). She assured me that everything would be cooked separately and there was no need to worry. I ordered the lamb chops and tested them with my Nima tester. However, I started eating before the Nima test finished. The Nima showed that the lamb chops were not gluten free. At this point the manager came out and told me this might be because they were cooked in the griddle with everything else, which was different than what she had told me at first. Although she offered to make another one in a separate pan I was already sick. The manager kept pressing me to order something else and doubting that the Nima test was actually reliable. At one point one of the waitresses, who was clearing the table, jokingly pushed the bread in my direction. While the staff was seemingly nice and due to all the reviews I thought this would be a great place, it ended up being overall pretty bad because it ruined my night and made me really sick. Not usually one to leave bad reviews like this but thought others should know that they do not follow cross contamination cooking methods as is necessary for most celiacs.
The manager knows her menu all the way and around. The staff is very kind and helpful. There are plenty of absolutely delicious options and the menu gives you a taste of French Cuisine that you’ll never forget. The ambiance is relaxed and nice. A great experience that you shouldn’t miss! Definitely going back on our next visit.
Great traditional French food. Owner is very knowledgeable around GF eating. Would recommend
