So many gluten free options! Everything fried is gluten free so I felt very safe. We got popcorn shrimp, fried calamari, lobster roll, and tuna tartare. Lobster roll inside was good, the gluten free buns were on the side. Wouldn't recommend getting it to go because the buns were hockey pucks and not edible. Everything else was amazing so delicious. We ordered it to go then went on the whale watching tour. Perfect pair.
Got into Boston on a cruise at the South Boston Cruise terminal. We have been to Boston many times and decided to walk through south Boston to Seaside and eat at Legal Seafood Harborside.
The hosted and waiter were very friendly. They even have gluten free rolls! And many gluten free options.
I had the Greek salad with hot lobster and extra lemon, it was great!
My gluten loving husband had the petite lobster roll with fries and chowdah lunch special and said it was fantastic.
Really beautiful place on the harbor, highly recommend.
Everything fried is safe here! they have a Gluten free promise written in the menu! ordered sushi to go and stated Gluten free and gluten allergyin my notes. When we got the order it had a GF sticker that was branded and everything. can't wait to be a regular here!
* edit: got the fisherman's fried plater and it was great! They severGF rolls and asked the level of sensitivity. No issues and it was plenty to share between two or three.
Great place to eat. From the valet, hostess, server, to great food. GF knowledge. If it has the GF marking it is GF. A post said that the stuffed crab had gluten...... well it was not marked for GF.. Your post and rating should be dropped for being a TROLL. Great fish and chips and othe GF options.
I was so excited when I saw the menu and many gluten free options. The server was attentive to diet restrictions and brought me GF rolls. I ordered the fisherman’s platter and unfortunately I am suffering for it. Almost ordered the crab cakes and glad I didn’t. They had a gluten free symbol next to them but turns out they weren’t GF. Server told another person in my party after she had eaten 1/2 of it.
I was very excited to find so many gluten free options including fried seafood. It clearly states on the menu that the breading used on all their fried seafood is gluten free. When asked if I had an allergy, and I responded that I had Celiac disease, I was told that special care would be taken with my order. Dinner rolls had been brought for my friends not needing gluten free, I was told I would get some gluten free ones which would take a little longer. They were well worth the wait! They were the best that I can remember ever getting in a restaurant! I ordered the fish and chips. My food was brought out separately before my friends meals were brought out. It was absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend this restaurant for a delicious gluten free meal!
This is one of the best food experiences I have ever had! The staff and floor manager know their stuff and verified as they served food items that the were gluten free. The GF bread rolls are delicious, the fish and chips amazing, and the sushi/sashimi was perfection. Did not disappoint!!
Came from Denver to the St Paddy’s Day parade. Grew up eating lots of fried seafood when I lived in Connecticut. Was so so so excited to find out they had a HUGE menu of options for me and lots of fried stuff- all the fried items are gluten free. AND I got to have rolls and not be left out of that fun. Server was so so nice. I felt comfortable and happy. Food was amazing and view beautiful. Probably won’t be back because of where I live but recommend for others visiting.
Legal was my favorite restaurant since I was a kid, but the new ownership is unfortunately terrible. It’s no longer safe for anyone with allergies, and no longer good enough for people without.
I’ve had several negative dining experiences here in the past few months (as of September 2022). The most recent was the worst dining experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Bad service, bad drinks, and bad experience overall. My entire table agreed we would not be going back to legal anymore :(
Food initially tasted good. Was a very busy restaurant for mid weekday. Got very sick less than an hour after dining. I am not sure their meals noted as GF are actually gluten free. Others in the party enjoyed their food.
What a disappointment! And an expensive one at that! Explicitly explained my son and I have celiac disease and need strictly gluten-free, with no cross contamination. Server assured me it was safe. I asked about the fries that came with the GF Lobster Roll. She didn’t think they were safe, but she’d check with the chef. Server asked if I wanted hot lobster with butter (yes) or cold lobster with mayo (no). She asked me twice. I asked how many ribs come in the GF ribs starters - 5, I was told. Great - perfect for our 4-person party.
The 2 non-GF meals for the rest of our group came. I asked about our GF ribs - where were they? That server wasn’t allowed, she was a non-allergen server. Finally, my son’s and my meals came at the same time as the ribs starter for the whole table, after the other half of our party as half-way finished. :( Nice that our food was delivered by a separate server, with gloved hands. However…. My GF Lobster Roll was, well, odd. And if that was the way it was supposed to be made, no one told me. It was a bed of chopped lettuce, with room temperature lobster with no butter, and 2 GF dinner rolls on the side. My son’s GF fish and chips were fine, and he ate them.
Our 5-rib appetizer was only 3 ribs with little meat.
By the time the server finally came back after avoiding us, I pointed out that I had ordered the GF Lobster Roll. I said I could understand if they had no GF bread for the roll (but come on! They are known for Lobster Roll!) and I asked where my side of fries were … or were they not safe? … the server said “The chef said he didn’t *think* they were safe,” so she didn’t bring me any and so did I want more dinner rolls? WHAT???!!! I pointed out that my son was served *GF* fries with his fish & chips and he just ate the last fry! And now she was telling me they were not safe?!?! “Oh! Well, then, they must be OK,” she said and she brought me a small basket of fries.
This was our big splurge for a nice meal when in town, and yet I was served a salad instead of a Lobster Roll, 3 ribs instead of 5 for our 4 people delivered after people we’re 1/2 way done eating, fries that weren’t safe for me were supposedly OK for my celiac son, then the server flipped her understanding and gave me fries anyway later on.
Such a disappointment!
Next time, I’ll save my $ and keep my expectations and visit Luke’s Lobster’s instead. MUCH more assuredly safe food and service.
From the very positive customer service by a knowledgeable server to the last bite of my gluten-free fish and chips platter, this restaurant earned its 5-star rating from me. This was our second time eating at this location in 3 years (we are out-of-staters), and both experiences were super. Not a frequent occurrence for this Celiac, so it was greatly appreciated. We will return again.
All of their batter is gluten free so low chance is your food getting cross-contaminated. The manager brings out all gluten free food.
I got gluten free fried fish and chips with fries. It was absolutely amazing. Didn’t get sick at all. This was the most safe I felt eating out at a restaurant.
I would 100% recommend this place!!
its called Legal Harborside. Took my 6 year old celiac son there tonight. I'm not sure what glutened him (he had a hamburger on gf bun, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob and GF bread brought out before the meal and soft serve ice cream) but he is so sick right now, he was definitely glutened at this place. We will not be back. I wish there was an option to give zero stars.
