Legals takes GF very seriously. Dedicated fryer for GF. Manager brings out GF orders separately. Yummy GF rolls. Menu has GF items clearly marked.
Food is tasty and high quality.

Nice staff, poor GF DF options. They do not have GF menu or dedicated fryer. Everything is shared in the same fryer and the batter is made with buttermilk.

We had a great dinner here. Our server was very knowledgeable -- actually shared that his nephew has Celiac and eats at LSF all the time. My daughter with Celiac disease ordered the Lobster Roll and they brought the lobster and three gluten free rolls. They also had a dedicated gf fryer so she was able to have french fries... always a big treat. I appreciated that they noted her dish was gluten free when it was delivered to the table. So happy!

Ask for the GF tolls when you sit down because it takes a bit longer for them to come out.
They no longer have gluten free rolls. Can’t get the lobster stuffed. They do have a separate gluten fryer. After we told waiter of gluten allergy he brought us regular rolls, good thing we always double check before eating. My celiac husband got sick. I also got sick and don’t have celiac. Cocktails were mediocre. Better places to try in Boston in my opinion.

They take GF very seriously. Always our first stop when we get to Boston. They serve GF rolls and many items are available GF. We got the GF fried shrimp and it was amazing. The manager brings the GF items out separately from everyone else’s food. Always a great experience.

Love Legal seafood - they’re knowledgeable about celiac and have a dedicated fryer. The only thing you can’t have is the beer battered fish and chips.

Amazing meal. Had the fried calamari and lobster roll. Spoke with the manager and he told us that EVERYONE gets the GF version of the calamari since they converted the recipe about 5 years ago. Very knowledgeable and accommodating. Manager brings out any GF order personally. My daughter is celiac and had NO issues.

Our server informed us that all of the batter they use for fried foods is gluten free! I had the calamari, fried shrimp, and fries with no reaction or issues! The food was phenomenal and would absolutely recommend
The amount of food was great! And the quality was amazing!

Honestly there are so many better options in Boston for seafood that I don’t think Legal is worth the money. Their calamari is heavy and not as good as 110 grill, which seems ridiculous since Legal is a seafood restaurant. The last time I went to this location they didn’t have any GF rolls or buns. The grilled seafood is mediocre and not any better than what you could just prepare at home.

I would definitely not consider them gf. Ordered a gf lobster roll, its just a pile of lobster on a lettuce leaf. NO ROLL!!
Legal Sea Foods is very knowledgeable about gluten allergies and you can get a lot of meals here that most restaurants won’t take the time to do for you. I have only been to one other seafood restaurant that has the quality LSF does
Yes
The staff was friendly and knew how to accommodate celiac disease. There were plenty of items on their menu to choose from and since they use GF breading for all fried items, you can have anything that is fried. A manager delivered all gluten free plates to our table.
Yes
Staff knows what to do. Super knowledgeable about celiac and make you feel very comfortable eating there. Even have a separate frier for fried food. Go here!
Yes
Calamari was delicious as always but we ordered the lobster bake and it was inedible. The lobster tasted like chlorinated pool water. We wasted 3/4 of it. Disgusting.
Yes
There are so many gluten free items on the menu! I had the fish and chips, and I felt totally fine. They have a dedicated fryer for the gluten free folks. Their onion rings are also lightly breaded in the cornstarch, and they were so delicious! Celiac safe for sure.
Yes
Celiac safe! We went here twice in Boston. Items that can be made gluten free are marked on the menu. Restaurant seems to have adequate allergy protocols because neither my partner nor I got sick! Everything fried is gluten free (they use cornstarch instead of flour). We tried the calamari, crab legs and sides, surf and turf with sides, and lobster roll. The lobster roll is really just butter poached lobster with the option of their gluten free bread rolls to make it yourself. The lobster is perfectly tasty on its own! The gluten free bread rolls are mediocre. Good service and good food, definitely recommend for Celiac's folx!

I have never been to restaurant with so many gluten free options! I had the calamari and the lobster roll on gluten free bread. The bread was delicious. Definitely plan on going back!

Great menu choices! Had calamari for the first time in 12 years! Was great! No issues afterwards.

Harborside restaurant...Extensive gluten free menu options. The waiter was very accommodating and asked in the kitchen when he was unsure about anything. Separate allergy food handler delivered the food to my son with Celiac. He was able to have a lobster roll and loved it!
I've eaten at the Lynnfield MA and Peabody MA restaurants and both have no clue what they are doing when it comes to gluten. Yesterday I was served a bowl of mussels with regular bread in it after specifically telling the waiter I had a gluten allergy and even made sure I ordered the gluten free mussels. He just looked at me like a deer caught in headlights when I asked him if the bread was gluten free. He said no but just don't eat the bread (the bread was physically in the bowl with the mussels and broth). There is only one waitress trained in gluten allergies at the Peabody restaurant. How do I know? Because she told my husband and I casually that she was the only staff member who had received their allergy training.
I don't care if a restaurant doesn't offer GF options, I just wont eat there. But don't say your giving me something that your not. It's not for a cook or waiter to make decisions about my health.
On top of it, food allergies or not, I think Legal Sea Foods is very inconsistent with their food/service quality (I guess it depends on who is working). If your in this area there are tons of seafood restaurants I wouldn't waste my money on this one.
No
Awful experience. Plenty of open tables, yet a long wait. Clam chowder was watery and very expensive for a small cup and soggy salads (ugh!). The waiter was always standing in the corner on his cell phone, very inattentive to any of his tables. Disappointed as our other Legal Seafood experiences were better at different locations. This was a bad dining experience (food and customer service combined).
Staff was very knowledgeable and accommodating. The food was fresh and delicious.
Yes
Literally the best seafood I’ve ever eaten. They even recooked my meal because it was cooked in the same area where gluten items may have been cooked.
Yes
Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. Amazing food. Rolls were amazing. Although it’s not on the menu anymore, they will make onion rings if you ask. Best onion rings I’ve ever had gf or otherwise. Definitely recommend trying.
Yes
Wow! More than half the menu is GF-friendly including a bunch of fried foods because...they had a dedicated GF fryer!
Yes
I got violently ill after about 15 min .

Gf rolls, gf headed fish and chips, dedicated fryer.
Large gluten free menu. Dedicated fryer. Clam chowder is broth. Not creamy.

Today I sat at the bar at Legal Sea Foods and was seriously impressed by all the attention paid to allergies. “Allergy to: dairy, mussels, gluten, nuts...” each were announced to the kitchen staff clearly, and managers delivered all of the allergy dishes personally.
As a solo traveler with celiac, I’m not a big fan of eating in restaurants. Legal is the exception. It’s pricey, and I can never finish the large portions, but it is well worth it for the guarantee of a safe meal while traveling!
Also: this branch had super soft rolls to start out your meal! I almost questioned whether or not they were really GF because they tasted so good!
Yes
Fantastic! They had great gf rolls to start, we're very knowledgeable about celiac & preparation. First time since diagnosis that I had fried...anything. it was wonderful. They made it with corn breading, separate in canola oil.
Yes
Staff were super careful and helpful. The manager even served me my food when I told them I had celiac to avoid cross contamination. The gluten free fried seafood is delicious and I would highly recommend the buffalo popcorn shrimp or the fried calamari!
Yes
Outstanding! The wait staff was extremely knowledgeable and made sure that everyone serving me knew I had a gluten allergy. Had fried calamari, gf bread, lobster, risotto pancake, clam chowder.... came here for dinner and came back for a lunch because I was so impressed and comfortable with the service.

Very knowledgeable staff and many allergy friendly options !

My 4 year old daughter has celiac and is very sensitive to cross contamination. We had a lovely lunch with our family with Mia issues whatsoever. Staff was helpful and the good was great. Extensive GF options.
Great food and amazing gluten free menu but no bread besides the rolls. Great rolls and food

Thank god for legals!
No one has tried harder to push the gluten free/celiac cause than these guys. While some say it taste like chain food I think they have managed to stay ahead of other chains and their stale menus or bland food.
Legals uses GF ingredients and fryers for all of their fried food and is very careful with cross contamination. Where else can you get fried fish, bread and clam chowder that is GF!?
I would love it if they had lobster rolls with GF bread or hot dog bun, others have mastered this and it wouldn't take much (yes they will make with their GF rolls but its just not the same).
Please don't criticize Legals even if you don't love the food because they have done so much to advance GF/Celiac causes and it's not just for the diet fad, they have real allergic sufferers in mind.
Yes
Gluten free rolls were great, and the fried shrimp appetizer was good, but they ran out of half the stuff on the menu on a holiday weekend and the seafood casserole was pretty much tasteless. Probably won't come again.

Ordered the omelet, server explained the limitations. No buns were offered but extra lettuce was available. Servers made sure to ask and then specify whether it was an allergy or a preference. Omelet was good but gone too quickly. Only place I saw open at 7 AM.
