This was a great gf lunch find. Most dishes were either gf or could be made gf. The menu clearly showed gf for gf items and gfx for items hat could be adjusted to be gf. They have gf bread for sandwiches and a dedicated fryer, so wings and fries were a go. The wings sauces were all gf. Waitress was very knowledgeable about the topic but checked everything with the chef. The reuben was very good. I wasn't there for dinner but I noticed the main entrees were limited for gf.
I ordered the chicken BLT. It was just ok, the best part was the sweet and spicy mayo. The chips aren't celiac friendly. My sandwich came out with a whole chicken breast on it. Which destroyed my bread the whole thing fell apart. It should have been pounded out a bit thin. It was underseasoned, and barely able bite into it. The fryer is filtered each night with all the others so not really celiac friendly.
While the food is tasty, I would be VERY weary of eating here with gluten sensitivities. Gluten free options were clearly marked on the menu, however, I was served crackers with my gluten free soup and had to send my lobster grilled cheese back because I knew it wasn’t gluten free bread the second I saw it. (The waitress confirmed I was correct.) Having two incidents in one meal leads me to think gluten intolerance and celiac disease are not taken seriously at this restaurant.
When I ordered I said I had a gluten allergy (I’m not celiac but I’m severely intolerant so whenever I go to restaurants I have to say it’s an allergy to make sure they take it seriously so there’s no cross contamination) and the waiter was very specific to the chef. All of their plates come with handmade chips but since their fryers aren’t dedicated fryers, I they gave me Cape Cod salt and vinegar chips which was such a surprise, it was delicious! I got the grilled chicken blt for my meal which came on a classic Udis bun and it was great! I also got the beet walnut salad without the fried goat cheese fritters to make it gluten free and that was also delicious. I went when it was pretty busy so I was surprised at the level of care they took!
I ate here while in Freeport last year and got very sick. I got a lobster grilled cheese with chips and later found out that they put the bread on a panini press used for regular bread and didn’t clean it off. I believe they have now taken that off of the menu completely. I was very disappointed because I did explain to the waitress that I had a gluten allergy and they still cross contaminated everything.
Wait staff was very attentive. Ordered gluten-free lobster roll, waitress didn't think the chef made it gluten-free and ordered him to remake it. Was very knowledgeable about gluten-free options. Menu also notes gluten-free options or if gluten-free alternative was available.
Staff was able to advise me on what to order being a sensitive celiac...fried seafood could have cross contamination, so not an option...we had pan seared scallops with bacon with a sauce...amazing and a lobster roll..also yummy. Will return again..outdoor seating available
Our waitress Myah was kind and a fellow Celiac herself! She was knowledgeable and made sure my food was Celiac safe.
She assured us they would use a dedicated fryer for the beet Goat cheese salad, I had the BBQ chicken wings and scallops- Delicious!!
Great GF options on the menu, but I was exposed for a second time after giving it another chance, avoiding fried food on the second trip. I also discovered that their “GF fryer” shares an oil filtration system with a non-GF fryer, so it is NOT safe for Celiac sufferers. I have no faith in this restaurant.
Awesome, and clear menu. SO many more options than I ever expected. Loved it!
Celiac Friendly. Waitress VERY familiar with GF and extremely helpful. Many options to from. Definitely worth it. (Only gave 4 stars because a couple items was 2x the cost just to add a little bit of seafood to dish ~ i.e. lobster in the lobster bisque. It was $6 for a cup. To add lobster it was $12 for the same size cup)
Gluten free lobster rolls! Gluten free fried calamari! TONS of options, and all tasted fantastic!
The food and the service was great. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and informative. There is the possibility of cross contamination in the fryers so be careful when ordering. The fryer is separate but the oil is filtered with all the other oils. I have celiac and did not get sick.
Went in today and were told they have a dedicated fryer, ordered GF chicken fingers, came out and we asked again to insure they were GF, they took them away, brought a second order, came back again and took it away stating still not the GF one’s. O for 2 on the same order and my wife has celiac’s. Chances are we will be in the hospital today! Stay away!!
Food was great, server was knowledgeable about GF, but... they use their dedicated GF fryer for glutened items when it is busy. The server told me that it is not usually a dedicated GF fryer during the summer months at all.
we were slightly skeptical with some of the other reviews, but it was amazing! we shared a cup of lobster bisque so thick we weren't sure HOW it was gluten free, and a plate of fried seafood and fries. I was super nervous but 24 hours later, we still feel fine! My husband would have known immediately and still feels great. We'll definitely be going back!
Ate here last summer after reading it was good for celiacs. However my 10 yr old celiac daughter was sick afterwards. Thought we'd give it s other chance this year but this time it was me who didn't handle it well. Loved the place before we were diagnosed with celiac. Not so much now.
The food here is pretty basic, but anyone with gluten issues knows how hard it is to find safe fried food. Getting to eat fried haddock was SUCH a thrill - and it was exceptionally good. High quality, fresh fish.
One quibble for celiacs - they don't seem to do much in the kitchen to differentiate GF dishes (eg secial plates, flags, stickers). I actually intend to inquire about it. I double checked with the server when the food came out and had no problems, but I think there is potential there for mix-ups. Just something to keep in mind, but I would absolutely go back again!
I had the fresh hommade gluten free pasta with marinara sauce and veggies; it was absolutely fantastic. The staff even made me aware before I was seated that my order would take extra time because the kitchen prepared the gf pasta in separate pots and had to boil fresh water to ensure no cross contamination. I will revisit for sure.
We were there on a late summer weekday. The place was not packed, but it still took an hour to get our food after we ordered. The server knew a bit but could not answer specific questions. The celiacs in the family stayed away from the fried food options since the fryer isn't guaranteed. This limited the selection. Hamburger on a bun was good, baked halibut also.
Per my 8 year old GF daughter: The. food is great and I like it so much and the restaurant is kids friendly.
The menu is amazing, they offer so many choices for gluten free almost everything on the menu is able to be modified to be gluten free. I ordered chicken strips with fries which was all perfect and didn't make me sick, but what took the 5th star from this restaurant was that they served my GF meal with non GF sauces on the plate. I was taken back by this. But overall it was a great restaurant
