Went here a few months ago and while the server was knowledgeable and helpful, our plates ended up coming out with nice big slices of bread on them. When we sent it back the staff in the kitchen took the bread off and sent it back to the table covered in crumbs still. Once we FINALLY got fresh plates with no crumbs, the food was so dry and tough. Not worth the money or hassle at all.
The waitress was very willing to adapt items to make hem gluten free. They do warn you it’s not totally celiac friendly. I felt fine while eating but got very sick within a few short hours of dinner.
Food was precooked and not reheated properly. All 4 of my family were not able to eat the cold reheated food, we had the bbq plates. BBQ sauces are gluten free and the original was good, to bad they don’t cook their own meat or had a way to reheat it. Spent $70’on the worst dinner , I have had in a long time. Shake it’s so hard to find a good Gluten free BBQ restaurant.
Had an early dinner here yesterday and had a great experience. They don't have a gluten-free menu, they have a list of items that contain gluten (which was helpful for the items you wouldn't think had gluten) not everything was on it that did contain gluten however those items were obvious like their sandwiches. Anyhow, our waitress was very accommodating and treated me like a person that had a disease not like a person trying to be difficult! I ordered 1/2 BBQ chicken with coleslaw & sweet mashed potatoes. It was very good! I sat by the kitchen which I anxiously watched every move lol I have to add they give out bread & onions & pickles with meals and use same tongs. But she just gave them to my husband, she did almost reached over the top of my food with the bread but didn't and I was thankful. I ate here successfully and wasn't glutened. I think the fact that they weren't so busy helped. (side note the pickles they bring to table are gf, and not the same as the ones served with dinners) I also have to add that I have celiac disease and I'm pretty sensitive. Hope my review was helpful!
I'm new to this place, but I was impressed with my meal, had half chicken with their vegetables and more. Not a dedicated gf menu but accommodating, friendly, knowledgable staff. Waitress was good looking too. The fryer is shares so be aware. Atmosphere is wonderful.
I've spent a long time trying to find good BBQ around Detroit. I've been to Slow's, Union wood shop, and red smoke. I thought they were all under smoked and not very good. Lockhart's is SOLID. I tried all the meats, they were all great except for the sausage. The ribs and brisket stood out as some of the best I've had. The sausage was not very good but good enough that I sill ate it the next day.
Their collard greens were prepared fresh and were delicious. The brown beans were not very good.
The sauces were pretty on point one could argue for another competing restaurant's sauce but that's about it
The meal did cause me to take a four hour nap even though I saved most my ribs, sausage, and a little pulled pork.
In one word, Amazing! This is delicious bbq, and we lived in Texas for many years and had our fair share of good bbq. In fact, they do not have a gluten free menu but it is actually a glutenful menu. It shows a handful of items that have gluten while the rest of the menu is gluten free. If you love bbq or just like it, you will enjoy Lockhart's. I had a sampler plater while my wife indulged on pork tacos.
