This is my favorite GF spot in KC. Great food and wine. They take their prep very serious and have a separate prep area in the kitchen for GF dishes.
This place is AWESOME. The gf menu is extensive and DELICIOUS. Will be back for sure.
This was our 2nd visit. Fish and chips -amazing Squeaky cheese-which tastes like mozzarella sticks-so good. Shrimp and grits. Yum Chocolate torte-delish All gluten free!!!!
So many great GF items! They just revamped the menu and I was pleasantly surprised to see how many options I still had! Everything is clearly marked and the wait staff is knowledgeable about GF and allergies.
My new favorite restaurant! Everything was wonderful including deviled eggs, charcuterie, and fish and chips. Service was excellent and knowledgeable.
The fish and chips with fries was delicious!!!! They were extreme accommodating. I had a concern with the shared appetizer and they replaced it. no problems!!!!
Fish and chips are gluten free as is on menu and are AMAZING!! Many options like gf pastas and other dishes
Service was great and there were plenty of gluten free options! Great overall!
What a find. Food was delicious. Fried calamari, fried cheese curds and fish and chips. Very knowledgeable and super friendly. A must try. We will be back. Very reasonably priced. Visit during happy hour for half price appetizers.
Delicious! Did not get sick.
They seem to understand Gluten Free importance. (Is says they have a dedicated fryer) and their menu has a key specifying when it's already gf and a different key for if it can be modified to gf. We tried deviled eggs, gf fish and chips and gf pasta. No reaction from anything and the food was very good!
the GF menue is large and varied. dedicated fryer and gf pasta offers a wonderful and delicious dining experience. very knowledgable staff! highly recommend!
I ate at Louie's Wine Dive on 119th and Metcalf. I went on a Sunday night, so it wasn't busy. When we sat down, without my even asking, the waitress went and asked the chef if the specials were gf. Yes, except one dessert. They never fry anything with gluten. I had fish and chips and it was soooo yummy! Lots of things on the menu are gf or easy to make gf. Lots of understanding of gf and cc.
This in my opinion is the best, safest restaurant in Des Moines. I also like when I have the option of getting an appetizer, meal, and dessert because having celiac your lucky to just get a gluten free meal. I love the calamari, fish and chips, tacos, poutine, and the flourless chocolate tart.
Clearly marked gluten free options on the menu and knowledgeable staff! Everything I've eaten here has been delicious (but not cheap). Edit: love this place! I have eaten their shrimp, calamari, fish and chips, tacos, deviled eggs, Brussels sprouts and have NEVER felt sick!
80% of the menu is Gluten Free or can be modified to be GF. cool wine bar, foodie atmosphere, descent prices, amazing wine selection and the food is over the top and super satisfyingly. They have a dedicated fryer. First time I had Calamari and Fish and chips (fries) in 5+ years. their tarter sauce is perfect. very friendly staff, very accommodating. Harry was our server, very attentive and knowledgeable. highly recommended to Celiacs and anyone else!
This place has several gf items on their menu and several others that they say can be modified to gf. Everything on the menu is fried with rice flour, so their fryer is safe. I had the fried calamari as an appetizer and it was delicious. Fish and chips were good too. Our waitress was knowledgeable and proactive. She knew not to give me malt vinegar for my fish and chips. I’ll definitely be back.
Absolutely amazing! Celiac safe GF champagne fish and chips were so delicious as were the GF cheese curds. The apple salad with grilled chicken was also scrumptious. Great atmosphere and lovely presentation. What a refreshing change of pace! Can't wait to return!
Lovely experience. The GF options on the menu are marked, and my waitress was knowledgeable - she let me know that when me entree was first ready, someone mistakenly put bread on it, so she had them redo the whole thing for me! The food was quite tasty as well!
Very pricy. Extremely loud. When I mentioned Celiac Disease, our waiter said, "Uh, that's a gluten thing, right?" The potion size was ridiculously small. And our waiter was more concerned with the table next to us who ordered multiple glasses of wine. He literally checked on them 4 times more often than us. I would not go here again.
The Fish and Chips are good. But the staff have no idea what they are doing. I asked for GF and Dairy free. Then asked for salad in exchange for the cream based item (which I paid extra for). It came out covered in bread crumbs and dairy based dressing. When I said this had Gluten and dairy - she looked at me like "well you should have said something." Well I did on the main course.
Gluten free fish and chips! First time in the 9+ years since my celiac diagnosis that I've been able to order that, and it was fantastic. I also got a side of patatas bravas (very tasty fried potatoes), which are not marked as gluten free on the menu, but they were able to make them in a dedicated fryer. I have dreams about those potatoes; they are one of the best things I've ever eaten!
It was our first time dining at Louie's and the experience was fantastic! Our waitress was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, which is always a plus when you are entirely gluten intolerant. The food was amazing and the number of gluten free appetizers and entree options was plentiful. The only thing I would suggest is to add a second gf dessert option... other than that, we will be frequenting Louie's!
This was really cool place. Their atmosphere was not quite as uppity as I expected (which was very relieving honestly). Their whole menu was labeled GF for gluten free and GF2 for items they could modify to be such. I had a pork chop that was great! But my favorite part of my meal was the patatas bravas potatoes served as a side...incredible!
Gotta go! Had the Calamari breaded with Rice Flour (all items that have breading have Rice Flour) as an appetizer. Lightly crisp coating & tasted very fresh, not rubbery. Hubby ordered fish & chips (naturally GF) since use Rice Flour & dedicated fryer, while I ordered the gnocchi so we could share. I was so excited to have Fish & Chips. My gnocchi was actually just substituted GF noodle, not true gnocchi so little disappointed as we asked bartender waiting on us difference to adjust for GF. Still good, but I would highly recommend the Fish & Chips! We will be back.
This place is AWESOME!!! The atmosphere was great, our server was wonderful and understanding, and the food was delicious! For the first time since my celiac diagnosis, I didn't have to worry about eating out because the menu was clear and the staff was informed. What a wonderful experience! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!
