LuLu’s has clearly marked menu items and they are able to accommodate both gluten-free and dairy-free needs. While not my first choice for Mexican food, I ate here three days in a row and didn’t get sick once.
Cashiers have no idea what gluten free/celiac even is. I had to talk to the manager because of a scare where the workers thought they gave me gluten contained chips. The manager told me they fry all food in the same fryer including flour. I do not recommend!
For a celiac standpoint this place seems safe to eat and I haven’t gotten sick after eating here. But on a regular review site, I wouldn’t be giving it 4 Stars. The food is incredibly expensive for what it is and the portions are small. The wait times are long and, even though I don’t get sick, the nonchalance of the counter staff and the staff preparing food make me nervous. I realized I can’t enjoy myself here. Won’t be coming back.
This is a very casual place - you order at the counter and food is brought to your table. Like a fast food place for ambience. But I am giving 5 stars because the food tasted fine and I believe it was gluten free. The menu is clearly marked with GFs. I ordered one of the chicken mole dishes, and also told the cashier that I needed it to be gluten free. After I sat down, she came over and said that one of the cooks said the mole dishes include chicken broth and that she didn't think that it was gluten free. So I changed my order to enchiladas. Even though the mole dishes were marked GF on the menu, I consider this a positive experience because the staff was paying attention.
Excellent GF choices, much wider and better quality that most. Not just one but TWO mole sauce choices...wohoo! They were aware of GF and had a good protocol they followed, but watch when they ask for choices on beans and rice, not all are GF and the order taker we worked with forgot that part. Overall: great quality, great choices, great flavors. Will be back.
I went once with my daughter. We ordered what we've ordered many times at the LuLu's in Menlo Park location, and this one was by far sub-par. Less flavor, bland, and very greasy food. Very disappointed it wasn't consistent quality like the Menlo Park (Alameda De Las Pulgas) location. We won't eat here again. Way too pricey for such low quality food. No reaction concerning gluten free issues (Celiac), and had it dairy free too.
This restaurant was filthy. From the tables, to the windows to the food stuck to the trays. yes, trays. like they don't wash them. Staff was standing around chatting. All the tables were dirty. Yes, all of the empty tables were dirty. Icky. Sad too because we like their food and gf options.
Delicious and lots of choices. Their gluten free menu says... "Lulu's Kitchens take all necessary steps to avoid contamination of gluten free items including preparing each gluten-free item on designated trays with was paper. Cooking and reheating items in specially designated gluten free cooking equipment and utensils. Maintaining separate containers, using dedicated fryers." Highly recommended!!
I went here with some friends. Two of us from our group have gf issues. Although the food was delicious my friend and I had reactions to what we ate even though we used their gf menu and we were repeatedly reassured everything we were eating was gf. I think their masa may be the culprit.
The gluten free menu is paper and on the counter. Lots of items to choose from! The woman who helped me was super helpful too. Best part? I got to have a chili relleno, something I've really missed.
Tasty, fresh, fast mexican food with a gluten free menu and if you request it, gluten free chips fried in a dedicated fryer. All this and some street side tables to boot. I can feel normal grabbing a quick taco with chips with my hubby again. So far I've not had a reaction either. Thank you Lulu's!
This is an upscale taqueria with some outdoor seating. I had a veggie sope with grilled veggies and a fish taco. Both were quite good and fresh. My order-takers was friendly and helpful. The grilled potatoes were underdone, which is my only complaint. They have a gluten free menu guide at the registers. I didn't ask about cross-contamination because I'm not super sensitive.
Ordered burrito bowl. Not spectacular , a liihle blah, had no veggies and not completely sure it was all GF. The gal at the counter was a little quiet. I might go back one day if I need a place with a friend but I wouldn't put it at the top of my list. Pricey for what is served.
