I spoke with the manager before we were seated. The manager confirmed that most menu items don't contain any gluten ingredients. The wheat symbol notates the few menu items with gluten containing ingredients. HOWEVER, (a) their friers are shared, so all fried menu items, including the chips, are cross contaminated and therefore not safe for those with Celiac Disease, and (b) the corn tortillas are made in the same pans as the flour tortillas, so all menu items that include tortillas, e.g. fajitas, tacos, etc., are cross contaminated and therefore not safe for those with Celiac Disease. There is one exception for the tortilla rule the manager mentioned: the tortillas used for the enchiladas are premade corn tortillas from a bag, so the corn tortillas in the enchiladas should not be cross contaminated. The manager continued to advocate for me in the back of the house when they were prepping my food to avoid cross contamination.
Also, I just wasn't impressed with the taste of their food.
Lupe is very gluten free friendly with a wheat symbol next to almost everything that contains wheat / gluten. Just watch out for the queso. There is no symbol but it definitely contains gluten. The staff knew that when I asked, but I went on the lack of the symbol only and paid the price.
my 8 year old has celiac. so its hard to enjoy dinners out with the family. but we know now what my son can't and can have and we love lupe tortilla he got to enjoy his favorite grill chicken quesadillas with homemade corn tortilla it was amazingly good . he loved it and the best part of all the cook and our waiter made sure they did everything to ensure our son didn't get cross contamination. they did everything correct my son didn't get sick .
Lupe Tortilla is delicious and has the best ever corn tortillas!
Despite speaking with the kitchen manager and assured my items were GF, I got very sick for cross contamination. The waiter didn’t know what celiac or gluten was, probably a language barrier. Regardless, kitchen manager was aware and assured me of my selections. I’ve tested this out over several visits and every time I get sick. It’s unfortunate since my family loves this place and food tastes awesome, but not worth the hours of pain and sickness that follows. I won’t be back unless I just order water and even then it’s a risk that they touch your glass with hands that just touched a gluten item.
Do not go here. I was misinformed about the chips after asking the waiter if they were GF and have no cross contamination with gluten. Waiter came 5 minutes into me eating the chips saying that they don’t have a dedicated fryer. It appears that the first manager doesn’t know about gluten allergies while a second manager does.
