I ordered the Hang Loose burger - supposed to have two Patty’s and French fries. The waitress knew nothing about gluten free or celiac. I asked for the patty’s to be wrapped in lettuce since they didn’t have a gluten free bun. It was $22 for two patties wrapped in lettuce with a bag of plain chips…. The pancakes looked amazing since they were gluten free - I guess I should have had the Mochi pancakes for dinner $16 since they are naturally gluten free.
Not a lot of options for celiac. Shared gluten fryer used for the potatoes so they subbed fruit. I had the smoked salmon eggs Benedict. The salmon was a bit fishy for my tastes. Poached egg was cooked perfect and the sauce was good and they had a gluten free English muffin. I did not get sick.
I did not get the pancakes because it's shared grilled space with the gluten pancakes. They also don't mark them with the gluten free symbol, but it does say they are gluten free on the menu.
This place is BUSY and small! The service was pretty quick & they were apologetic for not being faster. We contemplated ordering takeout when we first checked in and they told us it was going to be at least 30 minutes. However we were pleasantly surprised when they called our name to be seatabout five minutes later! I had the best gluten free (mochi) pancakes here! They were so think and moist! So glad I could order a 1/2 order = 1 pancake. I could only eat half of it! I requested for them to clean the grill but was denied bc the were too busy. I also had a smoothie. My husband enjoyed his loco moco very much as well.
This venue had a few gluten free options but the mochi pancakes were the stand out! MAC is located in the Hilton but available to the public. I went there specifically for the pancakes and they didn’t disappoint. Huge portion and a few choice for toppings. Mochi is used instead of wheat flour but they taste great, especially with the spiced butter and maple syrup *drool*
This place saved the day… literally! They are open late so it’s perfect if you spend all day at the beach and then dinner becomes an afterthought. Our waitress, Mona, was so kind. She was so helpful and ensured that they would clean before they made my mochi pancakes. She understood my concern and was so helpful with everything!
I asked for the mochi pancakes because they were gf. The server said that they were made on the the same surface as other menu items. Why say they are gf if there is cross contamination. I ended up getting a fruit bowl that wasn’t very filling.
We went to M.A.C. for breakfast on our first Saturday on the island. They carry mochi pancakes with an assortment of toppings to add (I chose the banana foster) and a side of bacon. Everything was extremely delicious! The pancake portion was huge and they brought me 4-5 strips of bacon. The waitress was extremely helpful and warned me away from their breakfast potato’s because they are cooked in the same oil as gluten full items. All in all a beautiful restaurant and excellent food.
Staff has absolutely no knowledge of gluten free options. Asked for ranch for salad and manager informed me that the ranch was not gluten free because it “contained milk.” The fries are breaded. The mochi pancake was delicious, however, I doubt the credibility of the gluten-free as I reacted quite strongly to eating at this restaurant.
Saw good reviews on the mochi pancakes and decided to stop by. Turns out they're cooked on the same grittle that the normal pancakes are cooked on. A lot of the stuff is cooked together in the same pans. Not a lot is gf but I managed to have some eggs and sausage. Be careful, a lot of cross contamination can happen.
I loved the mochi pancakes!!! I do not have celiac disease but am gluten-sensitive and I'm sure y'all know how hard it is to find good GF pancakes. Look no further! Helps if you also love mochi, of course. And the bottomless coffee pot didn't suck, either. Kudos to Pua for great service, as well.
Very filling Mochi pancakes! They were a little thick which was to be expected. Also had a yummy strawberry banana milkshake and got to see the staff bang the gong since someone took the pancake challenge on while I was there.
One note- the waiter also told me their syrup wasn’t gluten free? I didn’t pry but I did skip the syrup just in case.
I was so excited to be able to have pancakes while on vacation. I had the mochi pancakes and they were delicious. While talking to my waiter he told me they are cooked on the same surface that their other pancakes are cooked on but he offered to clean the skillet before they cooked my pancakes. Delicious and I didn’t get sick!
If you are celiac, do NOT eat here. I ordered the GF pancake & asked many questions/explained my condition to the server. The plate arrived & after I ate 6 bites, the server returned to our table to say that he was in a hurry & that my pancake was NOT GF. This happened on day 5 of my 10 day vacation - the last 5 days were ruined. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!
The mochi pancakes are NOT fully gf. The waiter told me they are cooked on the same grill as the regular pancakes. I had to settle for an omelette without the potatoes, those are cooked with breaded items. I was looking forward to this place, but unfortunately I couldn’t enjoy it.
Modern American Cuisine 24/7. Nice convenience. We stopped in for late breakfast and gf pancakes. More of a modern diner but not modern diner prices. Good. Breakfast, no complaints on food. The server asked if I was 65 so he could offer senior pricing. Only problem is he added 10 years to my age. Appreciate the offer, but wish he could find another way to find me a discount. Lol. Definitely would lose at the guess your age game. At least I think so. Lol.
I had the GF Eggs Benedict and it was exactly what I wanted. I hadn’t had an English muffin in years, so it was great to have again. Most places will charge extra to give you a GF substitution, only to give you inedible toast. Happily this place has figured out how to make a GF English muffin and doesn’t even charge extra!
Gluten free pancakes were delicious (I talked my husband into getting them with his meal so I could try them). I got the GF Benedict and it was pretty tasty too. I didn't have a reaction after, so happy we stopped in for breakfast even though it was a bit pricey.
Came for breakfast wanting the pancakes. The menu had great gluten free options plenty of choice. However, waiter had little to no knowledge regarding celiac and told us that they couldn’t cook the food separately as it’s to much hassle. We left after 5 minutes. Waiter was also a little rude.
DO NOT EAT HERE .... They have no idea what gluten free is. Ordered a gluten free burger (said gluten free option available for that item on the menu). No bun just lettuce cup which was fine but the onion ring in the burger was not. When I pointed it out to the waiter he asked if I was going to take it out or did I want him to!!! Side of teriyaki sauce was also not Gluten free. When I said celiac he looked at me with a blank stare
My husband has the Corn Beef Hash with eggs and I had the Mochi pancake. Our server said cross contamination can certainly happen and there is no guarantee, that they do cook on the same surfaces and pans. I asked if he could please have the chef prepare on clean pan and he agreed. The Corn Beef hash came out and server said the kitchen didn't read him note about the allergy and they needed to remake the Mochi pancake again on clean pan. I was relieved he caught the mistake. My husband didn't have a reaction with either meal option and both tasted pretty good. It wasn't anything over the top super special, but it was decently priced and no reaction, so would try it again when in Waikiki.
They had options for multiple breakfast and lunch items that were gf or had a gf option. The food was delicious, and the servings were fairly big! I had thr Mac Attack with gf mochi pancakes, and gf english muffins that were all delicious and appreciated. I did not get sick after eating here, and the staff was very friendly.
I got the Mac Attach with the Gluten Free Mochi pancakes. That was one of the BEST breakfasts I have ever had!! The pancakes were so light and fluffy and ever had a crispy edge! Good thing we found this place on our last day or I would be 10 pounds heavier coming home!
I am celiac and have a reaction to gluten within 3 hours if I get glutend. I had the GF pancakes with the Elvis topping and had no reaction. The pancakes were great, coffee a little weird, tasted like dishwater sanitizer residue was in it. I will be back and hopefully the coffee will be better next time.
Are there twice in October 2016. First time, waiter fully Coeliac aware, gave me all the confidence needed. Omelette was great, happy as. Next time around, waitress had no idea. What a difference that makes. A bit hesitant but had the pancakes. Fortunately no issues. Menu a bit limited for gf but food was good.
Definitely not celiac friendly. Waiter told me pancakes, toast and English muffins are all made on same equipment as everything else. Ended up just getting a bowl of fruit.
had the omelet, could have been safe, but shared the pancakes with my wife and I was fine for a good few hours but it hit me hard after... go to your own risk
Amazing Food!!! Best Gluten Free Pancakes Ever! Ginormous portions!!! Plan to share!!!
