the food and the environment were amazing. I got the gnocchi with meat sauce. It was incredible! I also got a cocktail and gluten free flourless chocolate cake. I can’t wait to visit again. The wait staff were hilarious and knowledgable of celiac. I really enjoyed my meal & had no issues (I waited 24hrs to post my review).
Horrible experience at Macello. Based on all of the reviews, we came here tonight to try the gluten free options because my celiac wife has few gluten free italian options in Nashville.
She ordered two items off the gluten free menu after twice telling the waiter she has an allergy. The waiter apparently keyed one item in wrong and brought her a similar ravioli that was not gluten free (the pumpkin ravioli) instead of her gluten free butternut squash raviloi (and apparently he wasn't trained to recognize it was the wrong dish (less sauce/different vegetable)).
He confirmed the dishes were gluten free when placing them on the table. However, after taking two bites, my wife suspected an issue and called the waiter over to confirm she recieved the correct dish. Although the waiter initially told her she had recieved the correct item, after showing him a picture of the correct dish which contained squash rather than zuchini, he admitted he made a mistake and her dish was the gluten pumpkin ravioli.
They we apologetic and comped the food, but that obviously isn't going to help with the multiple days of adverse symptoms she is now facing. It's really just a lack of employee training and disappointing for a restaurant that came so highly recommended. It might be great when done correctly, but it's not a restaurant we trust to take allergies seriously.
I told them I had Celiac Disease and it is a serious gluten allergy. They set the dish down in front of me and even said gluten free. I took a bite and immediately knew I was give the wrong dish. When I questioned the staff they confirmed it was the wrong dish and offered to call me an ambulance. Obviously, that’s not what I needed. I just did not expect to eat here and be sick for the next several days.
Excellent Italian restaurant in West Loop for celiacs. They have a separate gluten free menu and can make almost all of their pasta dishes gluten free. I had the shrimp appetizer, gluten free gnocchi, and some sort of delicious desert that the server notified me was gluten free. Excellent wait staff, very knowledgeable, asked about cross contact as well. Overall wonderful experience here!
Great atmosphere! Perfect for any occasion. There’s a dedicated GF menu for pastas and some of the options on the main menu are safe too. So many options it was hard to choose. I had the baked gnocchi and it was amazing. Will definitely be returning to try more of their options. Felt great the next day!
Separate gluten free menu. Most pastas can be made gluten free. The menu has cheese platter and meat platter appetizers and we asked if we could mix and match and they created a special platter for us. The pasta I ordered was AMAZING. I couldn’t believe it was gluten free! I am a very sensitive Celiac and did not get sick. Service was also excellent!
