They do have a GF menu, but it isn’t Celiac safe. I ordered the vegetable hibachi off the GF menu and it came with tempura fried sweet potato and fried tofu (they do not have dedicated GF fryers, I asked). The salmon nigiri was delicious and they do offer GF soy sauce for an additional cost. Stick with the rolls and be sure you ask to speak with a manager to ensure your food is totally GF. My waitress didn’t recognize cross contamination as an issue when I told her that I have a gluten allergy.
I have eaten at Maru safely many times. They have gf soy sauce, are really knowledgeable about cross contamination and gluten in any sauces etc. There is now even a GF menu. One thing is they do charge $2 extra for GF tuna (normal tuna they use is not GF). However this isn’t listed in the menu and just shows up on the bill...
I ordered the chicken teriyaki with fried rice and grilled vegetables. Very tasty and all prepared with gf soy sauce. The staff was also well aware of gluten ingredients used.
The food here is excellent and the chef's are very careful in preparation. I'll be back for more!
The wait staff was very knowledgeable and was able to make gf modifications. They have gf soy sauce and sriracha to offer as condiments. I was so happy to enjoy eating sushi again. My only complaint was the speed of the service was very slow, but would be willing to go back!
Absolutely delicious!!!! sushi fish is incredibly high quality. fantastic
They do not have a gluten free menu, however you can point to almost any roll on the menu and they will modify it to be gluten free (even the tempura!). Staff is very knowledgable. Also have about five gluten free desserts. The vanilla bean cheesecake and chocolate truffles were excellent.
Explained the celiac situation thoroughly, seemed like she understood, but I'm still very sick a few hours later. They brought me gf soy sauce in the same container they use for other soy sauce so she said to "be careful not to mix them" my guess is that they were already mixed. I got sick eating the gf teriyaki chicken and all of their salmon has gluten in it. They are idiots and don’t understand what gf means at all. Their gf menu has gluten in it.
The waitress originally said they did not have a gf menu even tho it said so on the regular menu and then eventually after I asked again she asked the manager who got it for me. The manager said she was gluten intolerant and felt safe eating there but I wasn’t totally comfortable with the kitchen space because she said there is flour used for frying etc...so I just ordered from the sushi bar and got a salmon roll /edamame and was fine. It was pretty good!
I love Maru. They take gluten contamination very seriously and have loads of gluten-free options. I have eaten here a dozen times and never had an issue with the food. However, beware if you go with a group- the wait for your food can be ridiculously long!
