I had a great experience here tonight!
My waitress was super knowledgeable and reassuring when I told her about having celiac and the concern of cross contamination.
She assured me the kitchen was making a clean work space for them to prepare my dinner. Also told me their sushi rice isn’t gf so they would use kitchen rice for my rolls so it would take a little longer.
The firecracker shrimp app is made with tempura but they did it on the pan and it was unbelievable!!!!
Miso soup gf
And we’re able to accommodate a lot of rolls to make it gf depending on sauces and what not.
They also have gf soy sauce !
And amazing atmosphere

We decided to try Maru again for the first time in a few years last night after a friend with a sensitivity said she had a very positive experience. Sadly I did not. Server did not assure me at all every time I would ask if something could be made gluten free “yeah I’m sure they can make it so they will be” well, after asking if the roll that I was about to eat was for sure gluten free, and being assured that yes it is, I was about 3-4 rolls in until he came back to tell me that it actually wasn’t. It was a sauce that they still included on the roll, so not even something I would have known visually to be suspicious. Their solution was to “let them know if I start to feel weird” and asked if I wanted an allergy pill? No, I’ll just be dealing with the side effects for weeks because the server couldn’t care enough to check BEFORE I consumed my food, even though I repeatedly ordered everything as gluten free and even checked! All I can say is, if you go, hopefully you get a better server who actually cares and I know I will not be back because it’s just not worth it. Sushi is also just okay to be honest

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. The waitress was very well-informed about the seriousness of celiac. She assured me that they took extra special care in preparing their meals for customers with dietary issues. The food took a little bit longer than usual to arrive. But when it did, it was worth the wait. Delicious! And no negative reactions several days later

I’ve been a couple times and felt reasonably safe. Their regular rice isn’t gf so be extremely clear that you need the gf accommodation due to an allergy. They don’t have a ton of gf sushi options, but the choices they do have are delicious. Also, they sometimes boil edamame in the same water as udon noodles, so if you want edamame, ask for them to be boiled in fresh water. Again, just be very clear about your allergy and you should be ok. They do mention at the bottom of their menu that sesame seeds could contain traces of wheat, and they put sesame seeds on EVERYTHING. I’d ask them to withhold sesame seeds.
Gluten Free Menu available - lots of options!

Super knowledgeable staff. Great sushi!

I eat here all the time. They have a separate gluten free menu and I normally get sushi. They swap out sushi rice for regular rice to make it gluten free. They can do the hibachi grill gluten free as well, but they have to clean the space and it can take longer to get your food. I am thankful they understand cross contamination and take it seriously. It’s always delicious and I truly appreciate the ability to make so much gluten free.

The menu is not marked GF, though we have eaten here many times and the waitstaff is knowledgeable on what we can have and what to avoid. They have tamari and can even make tempura shrimp separately and safely.

Explained the celiac situation thoroughly, seemed like she understood, but I'm still very sick a few hours later. They brought me gf soy sauce in the same container they use for other soy sauce so she said to "be careful not to mix them" my guess is that they were already mixed. I got sick eating the gf teriyaki chicken and all of their salmon has gluten in it. They are idiots and don’t understand what gf means at all. Their gf menu has gluten in it.
No
The waitress originally said they did not have a gf menu even tho it said so on the regular menu and then eventually after I asked again she asked the manager who got it for me. The manager said she was gluten intolerant and felt safe eating there but I wasn’t totally comfortable with the kitchen space because she said there is flour used for frying etc...so I just ordered from the sushi bar and got a salmon roll /edamame and was fine. It was pretty good!
Maru has a pretty extensive GF menu. The waitress was super knowledgeable and brought out gluten free soy sauce without asking. All in all a great experience.
