Absolutely awesome place to eat for Celiacs! The owner, Chris, noticed the gf menu I was looking at and sat down with us to explain how everything is run in the kitchen to avoid cross contamination. They have a dedicated gf fryer and separate cooking equipment. I had the gf fried shrimp with french fries. Soooooo good! After we ate Chris gave us a tour of the kitchen. Everyone is well trained regarding how to prepare gf meals. We'll be going back multiple times while visiting here! Great job, Chris.
I had the gluten free chicken nugget bites with French fries. They have a dedicated fryer and space, as well as a gluten free menu. They also have gluten free items marked on the regular menu. They sent my order to the kitchen first so that they knew to prepare it separately and safely. It came out a couple minutes before my partner’s order. Zero reaction. I haven’t found gluten free tenders at a restaurant so I’ve missed it since being diagnosed. They were crisp, crunchy and tender on the inside. Perfection. The French fries were golden brown and delicious. Very fresh and crisp.
Came here on a whim due to great reviews from this app, highly impressed. The thing that stuck out was the owner Chris. There was a mistake with our salad and he personally made sure the items where made correctly. His knowledge of difference for celiac and gluten free by choice was another bonus. Alicia, our server, was training someone and showed great patience and they both ensured that we had all the items we needed. The food we got was the chicken alfredo, ceasar salad, blackened shrimp scampi, buffalo tenders (mild) and garlic bread. They had Nutrul for the gluten free alcoholic beverage (not sure if there was more). The food was so good we had to question of it was GF. Great food, great service and a friendly atmosphere. Definitely worth the drive to dine again.
One our trip back to our home city stopped by again to see if it was just a one time great experience, which I'm sure we have all had. I got the lobster roll and French fries, my wife got the chicken Alfredo again and side of the Buffalo tenders (mild). It should be noted that the owner told us the sauce for GF tenders are normally on the side so they can ensure there is no cross contamination. The food was amazing yet again, the bread they used for the lobster roll was so good we had to ask what the brand was. Definitely will be going with the family on the next road trip.
Excellent! They servers are very knowledgeable about gluten free and the risks of cross contamination. I had the gf chicken bites with gf French fries. My husband had the Alfredo and my brother in law had the bacon burger. We were all happy with the food and the service. Definitely will come back.
While visiting family in Florida I found McKenna’s on Find Me Gluten Free App. The restaurant was great! The owner was super friendly and very knowledgeable about Celiac and gluten free. They had a separate gluten free menu. The food was excellent! I had the GF breaded shrimp and French fries which were friend in a delegated gluten free fryer
I have been here at least 3 times since moving here a couple months ago. It’s so incredibly great with gluten free and celiac, and has separate fryers for French fries. They have a good gluten free menu and have recently added another on tables to include even more appetizers and entrees including shrimp scampi and Alfredo. My fiance and I got chicken nuggets and chicken Alfredo and it was absolutely amazing! I never feel sick after eating here and always feel full!
Let me tell you right now that you MUST eat here if you are gluten free. I have a severe allergy and did not get sick. The owner and manager came to our table to visit before we ordered. They have a dedicated fryer and all of their utensils, cutting board, pans ETC are purple to signify gluten free as to prevent and chance of cross contamination. The fried shrimp was amazing!! The French fries incredible!! Go there!!!!! You won’t be disappointed!
Update!!
They now carry their own GF pasta and fried shrimp in addition to fried boneless wings and peanut butter pie!! They have also shared with me that they have purchased a dedicated GF freezer and GF designated utensils and pans with color coded handles to reduce accidental cross contamination!
So my Favorite restaurant just got better! They not only let me bring my own pasta and make me GF pasta Alfredo with cross contamination but they now carry gluten free bread I just had a GF Ruben sandwich and it was delicious!!!!!
Spoke with Chris. He said the staff was trained and compassionate about food allergies. Many choices on the gluten free menu. I got shrimp and fries. Shrimp were delicious! I wish I had gotten a salad as well because they could do them gf and my family’s salads looked super fresh and loaded with a variety of veggies. I ate with no issue and am super sensitive. Will go again if I am ever in the area.
Staff was super almost overly friendly and I liked how they have a gluten free only menu. Fries were so-so they were coated fries so nothing special. Got the grilled snapper it was very dry and over done. Wouldn’t eat here again wasn’t impressed with the quality of the food. Also concerned about the coated fries as not all coated fries are gluten free.
Our family of 5 ate here on vacation in July of 2024. 3 of us have gluten allergies while the other 2 do not. They have a good GF menu with dedicated fryers for French fries! One of the best GF buns I’ve ever had. Very good service and good atmosphere. Would definitely go back again!
This place is fantastic! The owner, Chris, is so friendly and sat and chatted with us. He let us know he had an advisor come in to train him on how to follow gluten free protocols. The servers are super knowledgeable as well. They have a dedicated fryer, AND do NOT use Udi buns! Great burger and fries and the fried nuggets are also amazing. Will definitely be coming back the next time we are in the area.
Went there for Father day June 16. Great Gluten free menu selections. Food was amazing. Owner personally explained their food segregation procedures and kitchen set up. Staff is very welcoming and service was excellent. Gluten free menu included burgers, fish, steaks and large selection of side dishes. Thank you for providing alternatives and safe service.
Visiting Daytona Beach for an archery tournament and came across this place. They have a great GF menu with many options and incredibly flavorful food, dedicated fryer, and knowledgeable, friendly staff. We’ve been two nights in a row and will probably go again tomorrow for our final night here. Highly recommend!
Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. I could tell the manager took my allergy very serious and he walked us through everything and provided a GF menu. I am vegetarian and GF so it’s hard to find options but this place was perfect. Will definitely make the hour drive to come back here again!
I ordered a burger and the gf bun and fries were great. But while eating the gf chicken I ate one of the “crunchies” in the bottom of the box and it was an onion ring. Makes me wonder if they used a dedicated fryer. Diner beware.
This was such a a lovely place! They have a separate gluten free menu, and went they ran out of GF tortilla chips, they found me carrot sticks to use with my spinach and artichoke dip. The staff was well-informed and I had the grilled shrimp and fries, with no reaction!
Had the best experience here!!! Pleasantly surprised by this sports bar. Our waiter was awesome and was willing to play with the gf menu (which was a separate menu) to give me a meal that I was craving. We made the chicken sandwich into a breaded chicken sandwich. May I say that whatever they use as the breading is SO GOOD!!! My oh my. Definitely returning for this burger haha. Fries are fried in a dedicated fryer 👍 Please look for the picture of my burger and appreciate how juicy and stacked it is!!!
Great restaurant. Ordered the bacon burger on a GF bun with fries from the dedicated GF fryer. Make sure to ask for the GF fryer as I think they have two separate ones. The server was very helpful. Family friendly. I’m also Dairy Free and they were able to accommodate for that as well.
Safe for celiacs! We stopped in here for dinner, based on the reviews on this app, and I wasn't disappointed. Once I informed our lovely server about me having celiac, she provided me with a GF menu with a few yummy options. The best part.... A DEDICATED FRYER! which means... FRENCH FRIES! (yay!) I ordered raw oysters, and the Lighthouse. Both were good. I'd return, if I lived closer.
We found McKenna's using FMGF while on vacation. I typically don't like restaurant-sports bars because of the noise, but McKenna's was not noisy. It was very casual and relaxed, appeared to be a favorite among locals, and accommodated large family groups as easily as couples.
The owner took pride in knowing how to prepare GF meals and of having a dedicated GF fryer. He was quite friendly, and our server, Sam, was knowledgeable about the GF diet.
I ordered Conch Chowder, grilled fish (catch-of-the-day), coleslaw, and steamed broccoli with garlic butter. The chowder was so-so, but everything else was very good and apparently quite safe because I had no gluten reaction whatsoever.
I would definitely eat there again.
Gluten free menu, and dedicated fry fryer! I had blackened mahi mahi with with fries and apple sauce. It was so nice to have a “normal” meal out. I’m fairly sensitive to gluten even cross contamination and I felt great after eating here. We visit Daytona often and we will definitely be back 😊
We recently dined here on a Friday night while traveling to Daytona for a college campus visit. As someone who has celiac disease, the staff did not go out of their way to make me feel comfortable with dining at their restaurant.
I had to remind our waiter a couple of times that I needed my meal to be gluten free. I made it a point to let our waiter know I have celiac disease but he made no effort to explain the steps the restaurant takes to prepare the food and keep it safe from cross contamination.
They do have a gluten free menu with a variety of options and also a dedicated fryer so that is a positive.
Dining while traveling is really challenging when you have celiac disease and I feel like eating at McKenna’s Place was a crap shoot.
Great experience = no flare up or cross contamination! Upon seating the owner Chris, sat down with up and went over the GF menu in detail and told us what the kitchen does to guarantee a safe meal. He promised if any suspicion of contamination occurs during cooking they will remake the meal and if any flat ups occur after eating he would trace the meal of how the contamination occurred and offer a refund. Overall great experience, delicious food, and safe environment. Will definitely make this a regular place to eat!
We both have celiac and dined at McKenna’s for the first time yesterday. We were pleasantly surprised with the active owner’s, Chris, and his staff’s knowledge of gluten free preparation and cross contamination. They have a GF menu, a dedicated fryer for French fries, and are more knowledgeable about gluten free than most restaurants. Josh was a great waiter, understood gluten free, was friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is casual, clean, and inviting. We both had grilled snapper… one topped a GF Caesar salad, the other served with GF fries and slaw. The food was delicious. We will be back!!!
Superb service from the minute we walked in. Being Celiac it is so hard to eat out and be sure you’re safe. Host explained all precautions they take while handing me a gluten free menu that had a front and back! Server, kitchen staff, even runner were all made aware before we ordered our food. Jessica was an excellent and attentive waitress. Would’ve left a review on the awesome service even if their cross contamination precautions weren’t amazing. 4 hours later and I’m feeling great. Will definitely return.
My son has celiac and we were struggling to find a place that would be safe for him and have food that my husband would like. After seeing the great reviews, we decided to give McKenna’s a try. We ended up with delicious meals for everyone both GF and non-GF. The service was outstanding, and everyone was able to describe all the precautions they take to prevent Cross Contamination. The owner even came by to check and talk to us. We will be back the next time we are in town!
Separate GF menu and manager came to our table to describe ingredients in the menu item I ordered to make sure I was ok with everything. They have a dedicated GF fryer and prep area. I had the Gridiron Steak and Potatoes and it was great! I got the cheese sauce on the side because it’s a lot. I also wanted to enjoy some plain fries since I don’t run across dedicated fryers very often.
