McMenamins Old St. Francis School

We had two excellent experiences this past weekend. Staff was kind & knowledgable. We ordered grilled salmon, steak, gf burger, Greek salad and fresh soup. Mix & matched over two visits. Also enjoyed wine. They were safe, doubled checked our orders, and were helpful.

How would you rate the taste and quality of the gluten-free food you tried?

— Excellent

So frustrating. We’ve been coming here for years and depending on who you talk to the fryer is or is not gluten free. Even tried to send a nice email to the manager and he responded at first and and then stopped communicating and would never directly answer my questions. I wouldn’t do it.

— Poor

Don’t do it. Ordered the gluten free burger and spent the next six days in utter misery. CC everywhere. It’s an awesome place but avoid the food.

We came here twice in a weekend. The first time I told the server I had celiac and he said I could have the fries so I had a gf burger and fries. The second time the server told me that they do NOT have separate fryers and that I shouldn’t eat the fries. I shared a gf burger and gf pizza and I got really sick later in the day. I used to trust mcmenamins a lot and now I have very little faith.

Will never eat here again had a server change tip on receipt to 20 over what was tipped and in the theatre ordered gluten free burger and an hour later was served a burger with a regular bun which I realized halfway through my movie when I got uncontrollably sick. I would be wary eating here if you have celiac.

Celiac friendly?

No

They were very knowledgeable about celiac disease and had spaghetti squash with meat sauce and gluten free garlic bread. They also seemed to be very cautious about cross contamination. I did not get sick after eating there

When it comes to atmosphere Mcmenamins gets 5 stars... When it comes to gluten free, giving them 1 star is a stretch. The first time I ate here my gluten free salad came with raspberry vinaigrette that contained beer... Luckily I asked for the ingredients before eating it. The second time I are here my gluten free/dairy salad first showed up with two huge pieces of bread served right on top and when they served me my second salad I discovered little shreds of cheese hidden throughout the salad and our gluten/dairy free steamed clams arrived with two more huge pieces of buttered bread on the plate. They have a gluten free menu but no dedicated fryer so your gluten free fries will be fried in contaminated oil and your gluten free meal prepared in the same areas as other peoples regular pizza and burger. Very unsafe and disappointing! :(
