Staff knew nothing about gluten free or safe practices for celiacs. They just plopped a book in front of me to figure it out on my own. When book yielded no options, I asked for manager who was unhelpful and extremely argumentative when I asked, “what safe options do you offer?” Unacceptable! When was the last time you went into a GF food coma? Melt is certainly a reason to be thankful for GF bread! Staff hasn't been overly knowledgeable on my trips. I'd recommend you know (or ask them about specific ingredients) what sandwiches would or wouldn't be inherently GF. I do my homework when cooking at home, why shouldn't I expect to in a restaurant. No reason to dock them points.
Great sandwiches. There is a $2 up charge for gluten free bread, but the price is worth it because you essentially get two sandwiches! Staff was knowledgeable and as far as I could see (and hear!) the kitchen follows safe practices to avoid cross contamination. Highly recommend!
We ate at Melt because it was pretty much the only gf option in the park. I ordered a grilled cheese mushroom melt on udi’s bread, with an upgraded side to the tomato soup because my waiter informed me of the fries weren’t safe. A few reviews on here mentioned a dedicated fryer, but it doesn’t sound like that’s the case— at least not anymore. I had brought my Nima with me, and I wasn’t feeling too optimistic about the results. The soup came back gf, but the sandwich had gluten found. That being said, the manager came out and apologized profusely. He stated that they prepared the sandwich in a separate area with separate grilling, etc. As we talked through it, it sounded like despite changing gloves, there may have been cc from grabbing pieces of cheese, spinach or mushrooms from their bins. He asked if he could try remaking it for me, which he did himself, using fresh bins of spinach, cheese and mushrooms. When we Nima tested it, it came back gf. The manager was very apologetic and comped my sandwich for the wait, which I don’t feel like he needed to do. I still ate the gf sandwich, which they made twice. But he said he felt badly that I couldn’t eat with my family because of the delay. So I gave this restaurant a higher rating despite gluten being found in the first sandwich, because they seemed very interested in learning from it and making sure patrons with celiac can eat safely there. I would recommend if you are eating there without a Nima to validate the safety, just make sure you ask that your ingredients for the sandwich, salad, whatever, are pulled from fresh bins. I feel like I have that conversation with restaurants whether I have my Nima or not, but it’s worth reiterating. And if you’re still weary, but starving, the tomato soup was definitely safe!
Very delicious, but both times I have been I've had a reaction-not a super bad one, but still a reaction. I'm guessing it was cross contamination from shared grill space. Would be extra careful if you go.
So refreshing to find a dining establishment that caters to various dietary needs. I love that we can order nearly anything on the menu and it is delicious! Have been twice with no problem, will come again!
Greeted me with “do you have any vegan or gluten dietary needs?” Then she handed me the gluten free menu and the regular to compare if I wished. Ordered the tomato basil soup and a Cuban War Pig. Both were delicious and the whole sandwich is quite large! She offered fries, but the fryer is shared, so I opted for the gf coleslaw. Satisfying! Nice change of pace in a glutenous world ☺️.
My son has celiac disease and had a great sandwich. They told us that their fries and chips are technically gf but are fried in a shared fryer so they won't be safe. He had the coleslaw which wad a little too peppery for him. It was a great experience and glad we went.
I asked the manager. She explained that they do not have a dedicated fryer, so fries can be cooked with anything. Also, even though they have GF sandwiches the back kitchen has flour mixed around so they couldn’t say there won’t be cross contamination. She directed me to the local TGIF for less contamination.
I would give zero if I could - I consider the server’s actions criminal. In fact if she wasn’t fired, that’s bad on Melt Bar. I discovered Melt bar in Dayton a few months ago on a business trip, so I was excited to see one near my hotel in Canton given that I have Celiac and they note all the precautions they take to prevent gluten cross-contamination. When I was seated I only got a gluten free menu, I ordered a chicken sandwich and soup off of the gluten free menu and asked her to note that I have celiac (an allergy) and ask them to be cautious about cross-contamination. She made some off comment like “so you don’t die”. I said “excuse me?”, and she replied, “oh, just a joke”. I said “no I won’t die but I will be very sick”. Well my food came and they had goldfish crackers in the original packaging on the plate and I asked her if I should be concerned about the rest of the meal being gluten free and she said, “no, just a habit given that it always comes with the soup”. I thought ok, they know what they are doing. So I started to eat my sandwich which was delicious, and certainly was on the smaller gluten free bread, then noted it seemed like there was a light breading (hard to notice given all the toppings)...so when she came back I said “this isn’t fried is it?”. She said, “yes”, but the fryer is a source of cross-contamination. She said “oh, I thought you knew that when you ordered”. I said I ordered from the gluten free meal, why would I know you would do that, the. thinking about her earlier comments I started to get mad and she asked if I wanted to talk to a manger. I said “definitely”. When he came over I explained what happened then it dawned on me that perhaps the breading was actual breading and I asked the manager. He acknowledged it was flour gluten containing breading that was fried. He also said I know when you came in you only had the gluten free menu, the kitchen questioned the server about the gluten free allergen and the fried chicken but she told the kitchen that she explained it to me and that was what I wanted, which was a bold face lie. I truly believe she did it on purpose after speaking with the manager. I know people can’t understand how upset I am, but I’m pregnant, and had a flight 4h later across country to go home from my business trip. I also react very badly to gluten to where I can end up sick for 4-5 days needing IV fluids because I get so sick. So far I’ve only had the cloudy head completely out of it this afternoon, bright red burning hands, and stomach cramps. I’ll be happy if this is as bad as it gets. If you go here as a Celiac, I highly encourage you to speak with a manager before ordering. Unfortunately I didn’t get the servers name - I just left after this ordeal. She was a larger person, maybe mid-to-late twenties, and had very distinguishing hair as her whole head was shaved except the top. I truly hope she is no longer in this role. She really could do serious harm to someone with this behavior. 😡🤬

Sooooo yummy! I have Celiac Disease. I ordered the Cleveland cheesesteak. Since the gf bread is smaller they made it into two sandwiches. I asked for extra aioli sauce because it’s AMAZING! I didn’t care for the way too peppery coleslaw so I’ll try something different next time but I just about cried over how good the sandwich was. 💗They also carry Green’s gf beer (pint) which I liked. Everyone in my party liked their food. Can’t wait to go back! I also ate at Melt in Columbus (Short North district) a few years ago and had a great experience there as well.
While it’s great that they offer gluten free bread and all, I had an awful experience here. When informing the waitress of my gluten allergy she asks me if I only have an allergy Or if I’m actually celiac, as they “really only take those precautions for those with celiac” because apparently unless you have that you deserve to feel sick. I then asked her if they had some sort of gluten free menu or allergen guide. She tells me that they do not, that they have gluten free bread, and that I should “be able to tell what is gluten free by reading the description on the menu.” While I could obviously guess that the Mac and cheese grilled sandwich would not be gluten free with just a change of bread, that did not mean that I would know if anything else on their menu was actually gluten free. I was so upset and frustrated to find something to eat I just decided to leave, but not without her coming up again and saying “awww, could you not find anything to eat??” Yeah.. with no help from you.

This restaurant does NOT have a GF menu. All they had was GF bread and a dedicated frier for French fries. Since our server didn't know anything about GF options I asked her if she could send over someone who could help. The server returned with a binder that listed all allergen ingredients in the entire menu. I ordered a burger with GF bread and fries. It's better than nothing but Joe Cool Cafe had better options. It's unfortunate that there are less GF options at Cedar Point than there were 3 years ago when we last visited.
This is inside Cedar Point. Replaces Joe Cool Cafe. Checked with the manager and they have a GF dedicated dryer and a GF dedicated kitchen space. Most things on the menu are available gluten free. Staff very helpful in confirming everything for us.
I have celiac disease.... I do not have a sensitivity. The melt does have gluten free bread, however, there is not a dedicated grill or fryer. They serve you fries or "chips" however they are deep fried in the same fryer that the sandwiches are batterer and fried in. Also, my stomach was bothering me later on and I kept having to go to the bathroom. If you are pretty sensitive to gluten. I wouldn't eat here.
Agree with Jen below, but it is nice to enjoy an awesome sandwich even if it is a little pricy. Past few times I've been they've been able to make the seasonal vegetable gluten free and it tasted excellent.
They are super knowledgeable and there are lots of options, but you already pay an up charge for the bread then they want you to pay an up charge for not being able to eat the fries, and give you slaw. It adds up real fast with the price of the sandwich plus all the uncharges. They need to accommodate with prices better for those who can't help their allergies.
My sandwich on gluten-free bread was delicious and worth the $2 up charge. However, I didn't get a gluten-free menu, but I did review their allergen guide. The guide listed the fries as gluten-free, but from another reviewer I knew to ask..... The waitress clearly knew that they were fried with gluten containing items, so that was good. I personally would like them to update the allergen guide to include noting gluten from the cooking process like frying. Just because the potatoes don't contain gluten doesn't make them safe.
The food here was TOO good! I rarely eat sandwiches any more, and their gluten-free bread was the best I've ever had. They seem conscientous and knowledgeable about separate dishes, etc. Instead of fries, I had a side of cole slaw. I wouldn't call it the healthiest place to eat at, but it sure was delicious and different. Portions are huge, so either share or expect to have leftovers. :)
Sandwich was delicious and unique. Selection of different sandwiches is great just have to sub gf bread. Staff was helpful and told me their fryers were not dedicated so I had to sub for cole slaw which was also delicious. Would recommend.
I'm gluten free and dairy free; never thought a grilled cheese restaurant would be my go to restaurant. Staff is very knowledgeable and I've never had a problem. They don't have a dedicated fryer so can't do the fries (they do have alternatives though) but everything else has a dedicated gf cooking area. If you don't like anything on their small menu they do have a large list of ingredients to choose from so you can build your own sandwich.
A group of friends and I went to the Lakewood Melt Bar and Grill because we called ahead and asked about their gluten free options. We arrived to Melt and after waiting a half hour, ordered our drinks. When the waitress was taking my order she informed me that they do not have gluten free fries so I asked what I could have instead. She said a side salad (typical for my fellow gluten free eaters). After I began to order she informed me that the side salad was a $3 upcharge, after I am already paying $2 more for gluten free bread and getting no fries. I asked for a manager, and when he came out he said all he could do was take $1 off of the side salad. He let me know that just because I had a food allergy, didn't mean I could be treated special. We just wanted to substitute the fries for a side salad for an equal charge. We left right away and the manager didn't even try to stop us. I hope that this review saves another gluten free person from wasting their time at Melt Bar and Grill.
They do have gluten free bread and a very limited choice of sandwiches. How ever the staff is very friendly and understanding of gluten sensitivity. They make sure your order is prepared on clean and one time use services. They also have an allergen list.
