Holy moly, this place was amazing. What an expansive menu, and the food was excellently conceived and prepared. Truly one of the best meals I've ever had in the KC Metro, probably anywhere. Unique flavor combinations, well balanced, rich and satisfying without being over the top. Loved everything about the meal and the service was great, too. Worth a drive.
Very nice restaurant with large menu for celiac. Every portion they brought out for our celiac family member, they made a point of saying name of food and stating prepared for Celiac. It was so nice and I felt so confident. Large drink menu as well. Enjoyed the evening.
All 3 of us are gf for over 10 years…
Get the goat cheese and fig jam dip!!! It comes with a gf bread cut up and chips. It’s gf and AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!
Chipotle chicken sandwich was super good. It has a kick. Got it on the gf bread with fries and they were awesome too.
Merchant burger was super good and had veggies as side. Very good.
Cauliflower tiki masala 3/5
Sauce kinda watery. Good but not as good as everything else we ate.
I told the waiter I was celiac with a peanut allergy. I ordered the special pasta (gf of course) and was served what the waiter later admitted was “partial gluten” pasta. WTF….. NOT a safe gf restaurant. They do not care when they make a mistake. We were treated very poorly after the admitted mistake. Ruined my entire weekend. Do not recommend.
I eat here frequently and it’s wonderful every time! The staff is well trained, menu is clearly marked on what can be made celiac safe, gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian or vegan. I personally am addicted to their yam fries and will always order those. I’ve tried the salmon, steak, burgers, salads and more with every experience being fantastic.
Everything is marked on the menu, the server was knowledgeable, and I didn’t get sick. That being said it was a little disappointing after looking at the menu online and reading that they have a dedicated fryer. They in fact do not have a dedicated fryer and my “fried chicken” came grilled. It was good and safe but not what we were expecting.
This place is amazing!!! First of all they include if meals are prepared celiac safe on the menu in addition to putting the gluten free options. Also, their food is delicious!!! The waitress was so sweet and wrote down that I had celiac. When the food came out she clarified that it was celiac safe. Their food options are amazing not to mention the gluten free desserts! The service was great and the food was great as well. Definitely recommend!!!
this one of the best restaurants i have ever been to! not only is the food absolutely delicious, there is a lot of variety, a detailed and informative menu (that even distinguishes gluten free and prepared for people with celiacs!), and a clean and reliable establishment. would return there in a heartbeat!!
Items marked gluten free. Waitress knew what celiac was and told me what was safe and what to avoid! Fries are not safe for celiac but yams and duck fat potatoes are. When they brought my burger out, they said celiac gluten free burger so I knew it was GF. Awesome service and food!
Menu marked items that were GF, items that could be made GF, items that were appropriate for someone with celiacs, and items which could be made appropriate for celiacs, which made me feel confident that they were well aware of relevant issues.
Fries were "GF" but not celiacs, but yams were celiacs. I had the bison burger with blueberry BBQ sauce and would recommend.
Best gluten free food in Lawrence. Menu is clearly labeled with what can be made gluten free, and even what is Celiac safe. Staff provides assurance by asking if you need extra precautions for Celiac, and confirms gluten free dishes when bringing them to the table. Best gluten free crispy chicken I’ve had!! Also the Parsnip Dip with gluten free bread is to die for. You won’t be disappointed!
Probably my favorite place in Lawrence. Has tons of gluten free items and the staff is knowledgeable about their menu and which items can be made gf.
Went here on a whim just passing through with my boyfriend on our way home from visiting his family and now it’s going to be our go to spot on road trips to his hometown. Such unique and delicious options. I wanted to order everything! Everything is clearly marked on the menu based on your sensitivity and the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. I honestly can’t wait to go back because it’s my now favorite spot too bad we live 20 hrs away :( I highly recommend!!
Menu is marked very well with what is safe for celiac, gluten free, and what can be modified. Pork belly and shrimp and grits were amazing. Tried a so-so brownie dessert in a jar, but there wasn't much brownie in it. Seems like the menu changes or is different than what is online. Will definitely be back to try more!
The dinner options are better than the lunch options. I ordered a chicken sandwich, and it arrived with a gluten FULL bun. The waitress realized before I took a bite. I had cut it in half before they took it away. She returned moments later with the same chicken and toppings in a gf bun! That's complete cross-contamination! I had to tell them they needed to remake it all. She put the knife I had cut it with on top of the salad plate I was eating—cut the amount of the salad I could eat in half from the cross-contamination of the knife, and she never even realized it. Not a great experience.
So many options! We started with the gf version of their kale Caesar. It may not look all the fancy but the anchovy vinaigrette and candied garlic pieces in it totally knocked the flavor out of the park. My husband LOVED the gf lamb poutine (entry sized) and I had their delicious bison burger (on a nice-for-gf bun but too crumbly for me to love), with all sorts of phenomenal things on it! We were too full for dessert but our options included gf sweet potato donuts, a gf (oat and almond crust) chèvre cheesecake, and a gf crème brûlée! We would definitively frequent this place if we are in the vicinity.
Loved this restaurant. Had the fish and chips. The sauce made the meal. The fish did not have a lot of flavor with the gluten free crust but with the sauce it was great. I was just excited to have it. Some of the dishes were great too. My gluten family loved the food also. They had great options for gluten and vegan and many other restricted diets. I would go again. Not sure why it had three dollar signs. I thought the prices were reasonable. Fish and chips was 12.
Merchant's now designates Celiac and Celiac-Friendly on their menu, going well beyond their original Gluten-free designations. (The Celiac-Friendly designation means they can alter the recipe.) The staff get the issues; they understand that a gluten-free dish in a shared fryer is a no-go. AND the food is fantastic...local and seasonal. There is something for every diet here.
