Been here twice. I’m not celiac but have gluten allergy/intolerance. Both times I left very happy. They have gluten free bread so a club sandwich and corned beef Reuben hit the spot for me! I don’t need to avoid cross contamination so it’s been GREAT for me! I’d say check it out if you want some really fulfilling food!
Avoid at all costs. They have a GF menu but there’s a disclaimer about shared kitchen space. I had a good conversation with the manager who assured me that my meal would be prepared separately. My hash browns had bits of bacon and sausage in it (which it’s not supposed to, meaning that it was cross contaminated with other food.) the fruit bowl was disgusting, and tasted like it had a mint syrup poorer over it. You’re not missing anything by not eating here. I’d give it 0 stars if I could.
Clean traditional style diner in a small strip shopping plaza; quick, friendly service. Good variety on the GF menu, with breakfast and lunch/dinner selections. Knowledgeable wait staff. Good food at good prices. Would stop here again in our travels. Menu says they can't guarantee that there won't be cross-contamination during busy periods, but we were here on a Sunday while it was packed, and didn't get sick, so I think they try to pay attention to it.
Pretty extensive gluten free breakfast menu! They don’t make you feel like you are limited in choices at all. I also asked for everything to be cooked with the least amount of oil possible and everything was cooked to perfection! Very fast service
Have had many great experiences here. Always delicious! Staff are well informed and attentive.
I have celiac and am super sensitive, and had no trouble eating breakfast here. The waitress told me that while she didn’t know much about celiac, she was noting it carefully and that the kitchen staff was all knowledgeable. They even have gluten free bread. The food was great and I did not get sick!
Had lunch and ordered a burger. They have gluten free buns. My allergies are more than just gluten and they were very accommodating.
I ate here twice; had dinner and breakfast and all of it was delicious with no problems! They double checked that I had an allergy and I am a sensitive celiac and they were fantastic and attentive! Great service!
Do NOT go here if you are celiac! I don't care what they tell you about their gluten-free bread and their gluten-free menu. It is NOT safe! They cross-contaminate EVERYTHING, and the chefs do NOT know what they are doing. I have a friend who works there, and the chefs are not trained in allergy prep. Many of them are also out back smoking weed on their breaks. I went in 3 times, and they always contaminated me. I ordered a simple breakfast with hash browns. I spoke with the manager when I ordered and stressed to her the need to prepare my food in a separate skillet and NOT on the communal grill. She assured me that everything would be fine. While eating my hash browns, I bit into something chewy and sweet. I spit it out, and it was a cooked chunk of pancake batter. They had cooked my food on the same grill as everyone else's food, and they hadn't cleaned it at all. I caller the manager over, and she was EXTREMELY rude to me and all but accused me of lying. She said "That's impossible. I don't know how that could happen." I asked if my food was cooked on the griddle, and she lied and said it was done in a separate skillet. My server later verified out of the manager's earshot that is WAS in fact done on the same grill as everyone else's food and NOT in a separate clean skillet. The manager was so prideful and determined to not admit the mistake that, instead of apologizing and trying to rectify the situation, she flat-out LIED to me and said that it was impossible that anything happened. I showed her the pancake batter on my plate and said "do you think I brought this in with me?" She scoffed at me and walked away. No apologies, no offer to remake the meal, no discount, NOTHING. I can't speak for other locations in the chain, but the Metro Diner in Venice, FL is completely and utterly incompetent when it comes to safe food preparation. They serve gluten-free buns and bread, but then cross-contaminate everything. Even their fryers are not isolated. They don't do potato products in a dedicated fryer, yet they list french fries on the gluten-free menu. They do chicken strips in the same fryer as fries, even though they have multiple fryers and COULD do it safely. These people are rude, accusatory, inconsiderate, incompetent, and haughty. They absolutely refuse to admit when they are wrong. All of this happened to me when the place had been open less than 6 months. If you are merely gluten sensitive, be VERY careful, because you WILL get cross-contamination. If you are Celiac, do not set foot in this place under any circumstances. They made me very ill, and I will NEVER return to this location or this company!
Update: my daughter was Glutened here. It was the first time since going GF and I was ready to take her to the ER. My co-worker who has Celiac, said both times she ate here she has had reactions from gluten. Our first waitress was horrible, treating both my wife’s raspberry allergy and my daughters celiac as a joke. We talked to a manager and got a different server who took great care of us. The manager also gave us 20% off of our check. Our daughters split an omelette with hash browns and it included GF toast.
Friendly , attentive staff and several GF options.
Went on a whim and returned three times that week. Two sided gluten free menu with plentiful breakfast and lunch/dinner options. Fantastic grits, good gluten free toast, nice burger, good omelette, bacon cooked how you like it best. Attentive staff who made us fee very comfortable with the kitchen practices to prevent cross-contamination. We’ll be frequent diners here.
They do prepare food in a separate area they say but I started to itch and had a bad stomach ache the next day.. The gluten free bread was terrible.. But the restaurant is great just not as gluten free as it could be
Fabulous atmosphere, knowledgeable staff and a really yummy GF sandwich. There were plenty of GF choices. My only wish would be for more desserts, but maybe it is healthier for me that there wasn’t.
There is a decent menu with gf options HOWEVER the gf bread they offer is toasted in the same toaster as normal bread. 😐She said everything else I ordered (eggs, bacon, hash browns) has its own pan and only ever has those items in it. Let’s hope!!
Serving staff was very knowledgeable, explained that they had separate cook ware, toasters, and prep space. I had the meat lovers omelette with gfree toast and hash browns. No reaction (and I'm super sensitive to cross contamination), and delicious food.
The staff was very knowledgeable and asked if I was intolerant or Celiac. I am Celiac and did not have a problem at all. They have a separate GF menu. I had a huge BLT on GF bread (for only $1 more), coleslaw and a pickle. I will be going back for sure.
They have good menu options and a separate gluten friendly menu. We sat at the counter and heard them calling out orders that had gluten allergies. They cooked the hash browns in a separate pan, not on the griddle with the others. They don’t claim to be totally GF, which is understandable, but they try really hard. I would definitely go back.
If you are celiac spare yourself and do not go here! I went to one in st Augustine to be fair, but I have eaten tons of places the last 3 years I eat out a lot as we travel a lot. I am usually pretty asympotamtic too so if I get glutened I sometimes just am a little more tired than usual, however that was not the case here. I was so severely glutened it’s been over a week and I still do not feel well! I had the worst immune response I’ve ever had!!
This place has a gf menu: https://metrodiner.com/menus/gluten-friendly/ It is a chain restaurant that has a disclaimer stating it does not have dedicated kitchen space. It does offer gf toast and buns, as well as breakfast, lunch and dinner options.
I was surprised to not find this on the app as a gf option in our area. Took a chance and went in. It did not appear like they had separate prep area for gluten free, however this was ok for me as I only have a sensitivity not Celiacs. Minor cross contamination doesn’t bother me. Others be cautious. I was happy to see they had gluten free bread and buns for sandwiches or burgers. They also had a separate GF menu. Service was great
