I have been gluten free for a year and a half after learning I had Celiac and I warn you not to eat here. I had the GF brisket tacos and I got terribly sick - chills, body aches, digestive problems, all within three hours of eating here. I’ll never go to a Mi Cocina again unfortunately. Not worth the risk!
Updated review - We love this place, it has a delicious Gf menu. BUT recently the GF queso started testing positive for gluten (with our Nima sensor) - in the past it never did. Im not sure if this change has to do with the kitchen, or their supplier. We talked to the manager about this, and he told us they don’t guarantee the meal is actually gluten free, just gluten friendly. We are bummed since our celiac son loves eating here, but after so many positive tests, we have to take this one off our list of go-to’s :(
I ordered the ribeye fajitas thinking they would be safe. I didn’t eat the chips based on previous reviews here... I still got sick. Not to mention that the food wasn’t up to the level of a upscale Mexican food restaurant. Probably ok for non-allergy gluten avoidance, but definitely cc issues and not Celiac Safe.
Chips are NOT gluten free/celiac safe. To me, with all of the amazing restaurants that do have celiac safe chips in the area, this is a big miss. They do have a separate gluten free menu with a couple of options, including fajitas with corn tortillas, but overall not much to choose from.
Don't eat here! They are very clueless on gf food
We have eating there twice and both times I used my NIMA gluten tester. Each time the results came back negative for all the items on my fajitas plate (even the tortilla chips). The manager even explained to us how the white rice is gluten free but not the brown rice. And explained how the two types of rices are prepared. And last time he explained how the gluten free chicken fajitas were prepared. The staff are very considerate and helpful. I would definitely recommend it!
There is a lot of confusion between staff regarding chips being cooked in their own fryer, whether they are or are not. I think they, and we, finally have come to agree they are! The gluten free menu is good. If you worry about the chips, order corn tortillas with your guacamole and queso, they're great.
Gluten free! With trained wait staff and manager! My celiac wife ordered nachos. The manager came out to say the regular "round" chips used for Nachos were not gluten free, but he was glad to make her Nachos with the regular gluten free chips! This is the type of gluten free support all restaurants should have. Thanks, Mico!
Wonderful find in Uptown Village. There were several GF choices. A couple managers came by to make sure we were comfortable that my food would be safe. They had the best Brisket Tacos and Blanco Quesco. Chips are made in their own fryer.
Chips are not gluten-free. Waiters are not properly trained. I was given conflicting information about the sauces. They are not careful. My husband and I both ordered the GF brisket tacos and one of us got GF and the other didn't. Not cool.
