There was a separate gf menu with about 6 options. I had the Enchiladas de Verduras which were pretty good. Not the best Mexican food I had in San Antonio but I did not get sick. I had the chips and salsa as well. We waited about an hour since it was very busy but walked around the shops in the mean time.
I'm one to throw up for hours after accidental gluten exposure. I'm glad to report that after lunch at Mi Tierras, I did not get sick. That being said, this place is risky. Our waitress seemed to not know what gluten was but did note my allergy down on her ticket. I ordered the chicken fajitas with corn tortillas, betting that it was naturally gluten free. I assume cross contamination is likely but it ended up okay. Dine at your own risk. However, this is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Texas and a lovely Mexican experience. Note: they do not accept reservations.
When we asked for a gluten-free menu, our waitress said they were updating it, but she knew what was gf. She said the chips are corn and have a dedicated fryer. They have corn tortillas but they cook them on the same cooktop as flour. When my mom made a face, she came back and said they cleaned part of the cooktop for her. She has celiac and did not get sick.
Food wasn't great and the staff clearly didn't understand gluten free. They did have a gf muni, but the waitress brought me corn tortillas fitting on top of flour tortillas, declaring them safe for me to eat. 😕 I told her they would make me sick and she firmly upheld their gf status. The tostada I had was decent, but my pork was fatty, dry (I know... weird combo), and just not very good.
I don't recommend this place as there are several other celiac friendly Mexican restaurants in close proximity that will take good care of you.
My son and I who both need to eat gluten-free had a good meal here. We brought our own GF tortilla chips as we consider it depressing and not worth the risk of contamination to eat from a shared dryer. There were about 12 options for entrees on the GF menu ($10-$30 range). We were pleased with our dinners and did not get sick.
I've lived in SA for over 6 years now, and have tried many many Caldo....but Mi Tierra always nails it!! So darn good, might even be better than my husband's and his dad's lol...
Very few GF options. The veggie enchiladas I had were good but very cheesy. I was disappointed that simple things like tacos (which I really wanted) were not an option. Margaritas were excellent! Go with the jumbo. Trust me.
Knowledgeable manager, limited menu. however, look at regular menu. they have some gf options on there that are not listed on gf menu. I.e.breakfast items. great atmosphere, quality food. They said cross contamination might be an issue, so I ordered menudo. yum!!!
