Miguel’s Baja Grill is so delicious and friendly for the gluten intolerant! I’ve been 4x and never been sick. The food was wonderful for me and for my gluten tolerant companions. Everyone loved it. I highly recommend the enchiladas with green sauce. The vegetarian option is so yummy and my husband liked one of the meat options. There are good vegetarian and vegan choices. I will be eating at Miguel’s Baja Grill every time I’m in Moab.
I loved the atmosphere and staff here! We had enchiladas and chips and salsa, and almost everything had a GF option. The drinks seemed enticing- we did not have them but I would go back to see what I could sample. I especially loved the kind servers and their attention- they were awesome.
I’m going to leave a quick review because as we traveled through Moab and quickly looked for a safe place to eat, this taco shop appeared to be the safest and most convenient location in our travels for a mid-afternoon lunch.
Unfortunately it’s not open for lunch! So although we failed to pay close enough attention to check the restaurant hours, I wanted to give future taco-lovers the heads up. Dinner only! Big bummer, man!
Unfortunately my daughter was too nervous to try anything so I’m reviewing my experience with the waiter who was great! We were told the chips are purchased (not made in house) and are Manuel’s brand and gluten free. He knew exactly which items had gluten (flour tortillas mostly) and the menu indicated which items were NOT gluten free which is sort of unusual. I asked him about tacos and he said they could grill the corn tortilla on foil on the grill or in its own clean pan if we wanted. Also said fajitas are always made separate in a new pan. My husband is gf sensitive and had steak fajitas with no issue. Food we got was just so-so however.
ETA: I tried this place again since I didn’t get sick and had a better experience. I ordered carry out in person and when I asked for GF, the employee asked if I was celiac. It was very reassuring. I’m glad I gave it another chance.
I ordered carry out here. I ordered a kid’s chicken taco meal and fajitas, both GF, which I stressed multiple times. Upon getting back with the order I realized they had given me a full sized taco dinner with wheat tortillas. I was apprehensive to eat the fajitas so I took it all back up there.
They reassured me the fajitas were fine and remade the other one. I was starving and exhausted and seriously out of f’s for the day so I just ate it. No reaction thankfully.
The food was ok. We will probably eat here again since I didn’t get sick and there are limited options here.
I had a great experience here! The waitress was knowledgeable about what I could and could not eat. I had the chicken enchiladas with rice and beans and it was delicious! The margaritas are delicious as well! Definitely check this place out!
My husband is a sensitive celiac. He had chicken enchiladas, beans and rice. Was also able to have the chips! He thought it was delicious!! No reaction at all. Waiter did a good job.
Nope! Not GF! Asked host, showed me what was GF (almost everything on the menu, he said). Told server I was GF. Menu marked with what items contain gluten. I ordered a salad (with lime cilantro dressing) Enchilada with green sauce was told beans and rice were GF. Welp, here I am not 10 minutes into my meal and boom! Reaction! 🤦🏼♀🙁 arrrgggghhh!
We went here twice, it was so good! The menu is marked with things that are not GF. I had the carne asada tacos both times. The chips and salsa are also GF, as well as the rice and beans! My tacos were in delicious corn tortillas. I’m celiac, but I went with 3 others who were not celiac. My food came out separately and was flagged as gluten allergy.
Super friendly staff. Chips and salsa are gf. I had the chicken enchilada, it was good, but not great. At the same time, I felt pretty confident in the restaurant’s ability to make Celiac safe food. I would recommend ensuring you let the waiter know you are celiac though, I don’t remember the menu being super clear on what was gf or not.
We had such a great experience. We had gone to this restaurant 2 years prior and my daughter didn’t have Celiac yet. We were so excited to know they handle GF seriously. The waiter was very knowledgeable with what was safe on the menu. They also had a waiter separately serve her food(which is always a great sign of their safety). The food was so delicious and the staff was was very friendly. My daughter felt safe the whole time and left without any issues. She is a sensitive celiac.
Had enchiladas with red sauce. Delicious, and I didn’t get sick! Waitress was kind and knowledgeable, knew exactly what I could and couldn’t order. I have celiac. Another reviewer said the enchiladas are not safe, but my waitress said they are gf with red or green sauce but NOT mole. Went back a second night and had an equally positive experience.
We were waited on by Miguel himself who said everything that goes in the fryer is cross contaminated. The enchiladas are also unsafe - but not sure why. We ended up getting tacos and quesadillas on corn tortillas which were fine. The chips GF and are not fried on-site and therefore are safe. Frustrating that the menu notes some things as “not gluten free”, implying that all the remaining items are gluten free..which they are not if you are concerned with cross contamination.
We had a great meal there. We asked for GF recommendations and our server asked specifically if the request was for celiac disease. She gave the recommendations and let us know that she would tell the kitchen which dishes needed extra care to prevent cross contamination.
We really enjoyed the food! The shrimp and pork tacos were really good, and the beans had better flavor than any I've previously had.
The staff was really nice and they worked well together.
Had a great meal. Chips are GF/made in a dedicated fryer. Only rated it 4 stars because only half the staff seemed to understand GF/celiac. Half of the staff was very educated. They did bring me the wrong food but immediately caught the mistake. I’d go here again and didn’t get sick but I’d be vigilant with questions and double check everything before you eat it.
Was slightly disappointed in our waiter. They were very unclear about what could be made GF and what I should avoid but checked with the kitchen. It was a little unnerving to eat the chicken tacos and hope for the best but I did feel fine the next day. I avoided the refried beans and sauces since the waiter was so ambivalent about everything but maybe it was just a new staff member. Food was good though from what I did eat.
The menu at Miguel's is very interesting in that everythingIsAssumed to be gluten-free unless they specificallyLabel it as not gluten-free. In other words they make a note of all the dishes that are not gluten-free. The food is excellent and the portion size is enormous. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The ceviche was outstandingAs were the enchiladas. Highly recommended!
We ate at Miguel’s two nights in a row because the food was delicious, fresh and safe. The staff is knowledgeable and they have delicious options. You may receive the standard disclaimer about the kitchen having gluten items but don’t be concerned. Just ask for your food to be gluten free and they have a reliable process. Pork tacos were delicious and a large serving. Chicken fijatas were also good. Ceviche was freshly prepared!
I was very nervous at first because our server told me she couldn’t guarantee anything could be made 100% gluten free, and I thought she said they couldn’t prepare my food any different than anyone else’s. But after talking to her some more she was saying they would do their best to prevent cc but just have to tell people they can’t guarantee anything so people don’t sue. Food was great and I didn’t get sick!
My daughter and I are both celiac, and our family was on vacation in Moab. I found this place via FMGF. First of all the food is incredible. I got the mushroom taco and wow- yum! My daughter got the chicken tacos and she loved them as well. Neither of us got sick at all. The Staff was all friendly and helpful in ordering. The kitchen is small however they take precautions to ensure the food is not cross contaminated. Secondly, the environments is friendly and inviting. It was 117 degrees the day we went and the dining room was nice and cool. It was a nice reprieve from the heat! Highly recommend.
My wife and I ate at Miguel’s Baja Grill on Friday, June 18, 2021. My wife has celiac and she is extremely sensitive. If she eats anything with gluten she becomes very nauseous. We are happy to report that Miguel’s is safe and the food is delicious. While there was no specific gluten free menu, our waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful. She knew what foods were safe and cautioned us on what foods to stay away from. The restaurant has a small kitchen - so there is some risk for cross contamination. She ordered grilled fish tacos - which she said were delicious. She was also able to eat the chips / salsa, which were also delicious. We were very pleased with our food and my wife had no problems at all with it.
The food was sooo good, we ate here two nights in a row! The menu states 80% of the menu can be made gf and if it can’t it is stated on the menu. The service was fantastic! Our server even came back to double check with me on one of the items I ordered. Highly recommended!!! Great margaritas too!
