Amazing and knowledgeable staff! Everything is clearly marked, genuine wasabi is delicious, and the chef keeps it interesting with the chef’s rolls. My wife is celiac, and we’ve taken family and friends here multiple times with no issues. Teriyaki is made in house, and gluten free! We didn’t trust the reused soy sauce bottles at first, but they seemed to be fine.

Good meal - sushi, Sashimi - with a separate GF menu. The staff seemed to have a good knowledge, pointing out what was GF and bring tamari soy sauce without asking as soon as I asked for the GF menu

Mediocre sushi, expensive, nothing special. When I asked for wasabi, they asked if I wanted gluten free wasabi. I said yes, and it turns out they charge an extra $7 for it. So with tip I paid $46 for two mediocre rolls.

Our whole table ordered off the gluten free menu so everything would be GF and safe for 2 of us with Celiac. We were a little uneasy when the food came out because they were busy, so I wanted to confirm it was GF. I had to ask 3 different people including the sushi chef to get clear answers about the food, and it turned out the wasabi and ginger on our plate weren’t GF. The experience made me nervous and I wouldn’t recommend this place for people with Celiac.

Had a gluten free menu with a variety of reasonably priced items. Even had gluten free beer although this was actually cider. Food was excellent and great value for money

The owner really understands the importance of eating safely, as she has several anaphylactic food allergies herself. Tons of gluten free options including teriyaki! She checked all our dishes twice to make sure everything was prepared safely before serving. Food was great!

They have a separate gluten free menu that is a little dated (wrong price and certain things were no longer available), but the staff was great. They had tamari and were very accommodating.

A good selection of GF options and knowledgable staff. They did put the non-GF wasabi on our sushi plate but they have regular horseradish you can order.

I really wish this place was safe, but I have had cross contamination problems here the last 2 time I visited. If you aren't a super sensitive celiac, Mikaku is amazing!

I had delicious teriyaki salmon and my son had California rolls (made especially to be gluten free as they knew he couldn't have imitation crab). Also, we had miso soup and a plain salad. Food all tasted excellent and they knew exactly what we were talking about regarding gluten and dairy. Highly recommend. We are extremely sensitive to minute amounts of gluten and we did not get sick. This place is right at the entrance of China Town.

Pretty good sushi at a decent price. Staff were knowledgable about cross contamination and there was a good selection on the GF menu. They did put wasabi on my plates and when I double checked, they said it was not GF (so minus 1 star for that). Otherwise it was nice to have sushi again and not get sick!

Thanks to everyone for the previous reviews! After a long day of traveling to SF from the east coast, it was nice to walk into a restaurant and not have to explain my gluten free needs. Very large menu to choose from, understood what gluten free really means!

Very impressed. Knowledgeable about gluten-free requirements, great service, and great food. If you're looking for gluten-free Japanese food in the Financial District or Union Square area, Mikaku is the place.

In addition to providing separate gluten-free menus, they understand that it's a health issue for some of us. (A number of other "gf-friendly" restaurants in the Financial District seem to see it more as a dietary fad and aren't informed.) Our waiter was great. He answered my questions without any hesitation or "I'll have to check with the chef" - stuff that often makes me leery that the restaurant truly understands gluten-free needs.

The food was terrific and fresh (sushi and teriyaki). Service was prompt, attentive without being intrusive, informed, and pleasant.

My 12-year-old celiac son is very skeptical of eating out. He loved that this restaurant brought us LABELED gluten-free soy sauce, along with a gluten-free menu that had tons of choices! And the food was delicious! We will definitely go back!

I have a feeling this is going to be my new favorite sushi place. Recently I was heartbroken to find out that the one thing I felt safe eating at restaraunts--sushi--was not as celiac safe as I'd thought it was...which at threats explained the moderate skin problems I've still been having. Waitresses were happy to double-check with the cook on the gluten-free status of several dishes to soothe my paranoid mind.We had chicken janitors, a California roll, miso soup, and a veg roll with sweet potato. Everything was delicious, and the service was friendly. Open till midnight on weekends...go late to avoid the crowds.

Based on other great reviews on this app, we dined with our family during a recent San Francisco trip. I had hoped that it was a Chinese restaurant, as it is located just outside of Dragon Gate. It is Japanese. The sushi was fantastic. They made our daughter a fabulous gluten free teriyaki chicken that she loved. The chef has many allergies and personally introduced herself to us and our girl. A wonderful experience!
