Ate here twice and didn’t get sick. They understood cross contamination.

The first question from our server was whether anyone in our party had any allergies. Even though omelets weren’t marked gluten free, they assured me it would be prepared on a separate griddle where the GF pancakes are cooked. Great food and service, and portions were big.

This restaurant takes all allergies seriously. They go out of their way to ensure your safety. Lots of gluten-free menu items. Our waitress Katelynn was amazing as was the Manager Joel. They made eating their a pleasure and I did not have to worry about cross contamination. Can’t wait to go back! GF Pancakes were delicious!!!

Plenty of gluten free options, including pancakes and bread! Huge menu and it’s all labeled for gluten, dairy, and vegan options. Staff are great about checking for allergies and making sure that your food is prepared right.

I love it here! I had the pineapple upside down pancakes, made with gluten free pancakes. The service was fabulous and everyone was so accommodating. Will be returning soon!

Waitress asked immediately if there were allergies. They make everything separate.
Was here 5 years ago and the cinnamon pancakes were amazing. They changed the recipe. Tastes like some kind of cornmeal. Very dry and grainy. I would recommend something other than pancakes. I did not get sick with the few bites I had. Bacon is excellent and they cooked that separately.

Amazing! Must do! Waitor asked about allergies with every new table. Food was so good.
As soon as we were seated, the waitress inquired as to whether we had any allergies and whether cross contact was an issue. She informed me that GF pancakes were cooked on their own griddle. I opted for a chicken sandwich with GF bread. My kids also loved eating here; the kids meals are served in fun bento boxes. The food was delicious.
This is celiac safe. First thing the wait staff asked was there any allergies. I had pancakes with strawberries and whip cream.
Yes
Our waiter asked about allergies right away when we sat down and was knowledgeable about the menu. Had the cinnamon pancakes and they were delicious.
Yes
It isn't a safe place for celiac. I didn't eat there. The desk attendant said it is possible cross contamination.
No
A must-eat! Had the Spicy Shirley and the Maryland Omelet. It was served with hash browns, bacon, and gf toast. To die for! *The waitress was helpful because they reprinted the menu recently and not all gf items were labeled.
Yes
Fantastic breakfast GF pancakes đ

Food was amazing, very knowledgeable server. Manager came to confirm my order and to assure us he was going to speak with the chef. Didn’t get sick!
Yes
Staff started by asking about allergies and made recommendations. Food was out of this world and even the bloody was gf! Come here!!
Delicious GF pancakes. I had to wait a few extra minutes after my daughter’s pancakes were delivered because they have a dedicated griddle that is only large enough for one order. Whatever..... means they’re safe đ. When our waiter asked about allergies, he followed up to ask if cross contamination is an issue (which it is).
We did have a 20 min wait at 1pm on a Sunday, a busy and popular restaurant.

Absolutely phenomenal. Will helped us and he was so attentive making sure nothing was cross contamination and the food itself was delicious!

This place is amazing. The GF pancakes were to die for. The server asked if there were any allergies and when I said I was gluten intolerant, he immediately asked about cross contamination issues, and provided insight on menu options I was considering. Can’t recommend this place enough.
They reiterated that there would be cross contamination when I ordered. The food was only Ok after more than an hour wait.

Before we even got our menus the server asked about food allergies and was very thorough explaining their procedures for dealing with allergies. Food was great, and the manager even came out to explain the precautions they took to make sure my food was safe
Yes
Manager came by both times we were there to confirm she checked with the kitchen that the clean griddle and clean pots/pans were in use. Best breakfast I have had since diagnosis!
Yes
To me, this place is schizophrenic. On the one hand, you have to give them BIG props for making GF pancakes on a separate griddle. And nice that they offer GF bread. However, their signature dishes are (according to our waitress) pre made and are not available without gluten. Unlike other reviewers, we found our waitress clueless about gluten-she had to check with the kitchen before she could answer any questions and she seemed a bit put out that we were wasting time needing info. (a place that has a separate griddle can't put GF icons on the menu????) The service itself was pretty poor-no one came by to check on the food which was missing the side I had ordered and I was not able to eat much of the pancakes (which were decent) since I had run out of syrup and there was no one to ask for more. Hubby (who knows grits) said his grits were hideous. So, we REALLY wanted to like this place and were sorely disappointed...

GF/DF info: The first thing the server asked when he walked up was “any dietary restrictions I need to know about?” And then proceeded to have good knowledge on the menu. They do not have dairy free milk, the fried green tomatoes have butter, and the potatoes are in butter potentially. But their GF pancakes don’t have milk in them (water instead)! Well-known and regarded restaurant near the inner-harbor. Expect a wait.
I would give this place more stars if I could. I had a southwestern omelet, grits and gf toast. So the manager comes up to the table and says he understands there is a diner at the table with a food allergy. I explained that I had celiac disease. He went on to tell us how he would point out the "allergy" to the chef and the steps they would be taking to ensure the least chance of cross contamination. I was impressed. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and affordable.
You may wait for a table, but it's worth the wait.

They ask about allergies and make sure they know the degree (sensitivity vs. celiac). Extremely kind and delicious pancakes!
Yes
As good as all the other reviews say. Great food and attentive to allergens and cross-contamination.
Yes
Fabulous lunch visit! Reputation did not disappoint, especially from the viewpoint of someone with Celiac disease. The menu is marked with options (including the best GF pancakes I have ever had). Server was very knowledgeable. It is apparently part of standard procedure for Miss Shirley's to ask if you are GF by choice or have cross-contamination issues (I do). If so, they incorporate safe handling and cooking procedures in the kitchen to the best of their abilities, knowing it is a shared environment, to the point of even baking my jalapeno bacon vs. frying it. Cost for the meal is high, but in my opinion, worth every penny.

Excellent food and very allergy aware staff! Separate griddle for GF pancakes! The GF pancakes are to die for!!!!! Love! An absolute must!

Great choice for food and terrific for people with celiac. They had multiple gluten free options including pancakes. Manager came out to confirm our order and explain cross contamination precautions -- apparently this is standard procedure with allergies. Both gluten free and regular food delicious. Service lovely. Highly recommend.

Wow what a great place! The 30 minute wait was worth it! Had the bayou omelette with bacon cheesy grits and GF toast. Highly recommended

very good breakfast, the staff was knowledgeable and asked me of any food allergies. I didn't get cross contaminated. I will be eating there in the future
Yes
Absolutely fabulous. As soon as the waitress came over, she asked if there were any allergies. I had the pancakes, which were delicious, and found out they have a separate griddle only for gluten free (so no cross contamination issues)

If you hate the indignity of having to ask about every menu item instead of them labeling it for you, skip this place! Horrible with dairy or egg allergies and act like they never dealt with it before. Also you get to sit mere inches from someone eating gluten !!

Between the amazing service and the incredible food, this is easily the best meal we've had in the week we've been in the Baltimore/DC corridor. Wishing we had time to come back again before we left. Our server Troy took fantastic care of us, and made sure we were safe.
Yes
Sooooo great. Go here!
The gluten free pancakes are some of the best I've had.
gf options! staff seemed knowledgeable and cc aware!
I ate there several times during my week in Baltimore. The staff are very conscientious of all food allergies and ask as soon as they wait on you. The food was delicious.
Yes
Food is freshly made but not many GF options, was disappointed there weren’t more. Most of the menu is fried foods or non gf carbs.
I got the Bmore bowl. It was fresh and very tasty but the prices are pretty outrageous- it was $19 for the bowl. The spicy bloody mary was awesome! It cost $60 for bfast including 1 drink.

This may seem unfair based on the other reviews. I choose this place based on the reviews while in Annapolis for the day. They were extremely busy and there was a 30 minute wait. But I knew I could get Gluten free pancakes so I waited. I was seated the waitress did not ask if there were any allergies like in the above review. That was ok I am used to that. The waitress took the order but they had someone else bring the plate out. This gave me an uncomfortable feeling was it my gluten free pancakes?? Sorry Miss Shirley but they did not taste the best đ. They were cool to the touch and like rubber.

First thing the wait staff asks at the table is if anyone has allergies. When I said celiac they explicitly wrote down that cross contamination was a concern, and while this didn’t happen to me I saw multiple tables have the chef out to discuss allergy issues and to check on ingredients. The gluten free menu is a little limited, but the pancakes were good enough for me to not care. Also, there are definitely things on the menu not explicitly marked as gluten free but that can be done safely (sides of both eggs and turkey sausage). Both times the waitresses confirmed with the chef to make sure as well.
