Amazing! The staff were knowledgeable about gluten free, the manager came over and walked us through the process for the way the meal would be cooked:
- eggs in new, washed pan
- new cooking utensils
- gf toast never in toaster, only baked
- sausage cooked in new pan
Delicious and easy experience. We will be back.
As soon as we sat down our server asked if anyone had any allergies and if cross-contamination was ok. After I told her I was celiac, she highlighted the few items I couldn’t have. My food was cooked in a separate pan (including hash browns) and came out separately. It was a fantastic experience.
The gf pancakes were tolerable but I would not recommend them. The service was great and my coworkers regular food looked amazing.
The first question our lovely server asked was if there were allergies she should be aware of. Since I'm gf/df, she asked about cross contamination, which I appreciated.
I ordered the vegan, gluten free pancakes with blueberries. Delicious. I haven't had pancakes in a restaurant in years.
I wholly recommend Miss Shirley's!
This was a wonderful restaurant that kept all allergens in mind. The first question when the waitress arrived at the table was "are there any allergies we need to be aware of?" The kitchen manager came over and explained their gluten free preparation process and was incredibly transparent. Highly recommend for those with food allergies (especially gluten / Celiac disease)!
A quick trip to Baltimore had some of the best food ever! We had breakfast at Miss. Shirley’s and it was one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. My partner and I spit the street corn breakfast tacos then I got a side of the cinnamon roll pancakes and…oh my god. Some of the best GF pancakes I’ve ever had. More impressive than the food was the service. Upon entering the restaurant, they immediately asked about allergies. After ordering with the waitress, who was extremely knowledgeable about cross contamination, the kitchen manager came to tell me my food would be cooked in a separate, clean pan and my pancakes on a gluten free specific griddle. It was truly unmatched service and the food was delicious. I cannot recommend the place enough!
Outstanding experience. Aside from great food and service they are VERY conscious of all allergies. They ask @ the beginning of your visit if u have allergies, assured me that food is cooked in a separate area with cleaned pans and utensils. Then the manager came out to talk to us, answer any questions. Best GF attention I ever got! Food was great!
We always have a wide variety of yummy, celiac-safe options on this extensive menu. The gluten free pancakes and breakfast meats made for us, for example, are cooked on the dedicated gluten free grill. The servers and knowledgeable on celiac and have a process to inform the kitchen staff of celiac. The manager also checks in with the table.
We had a really good experience. Upon the arrival, we asked to talk to the manager. She was very knowledgeable and explained how they use separate area to prepare food. They had a separate griddle to make pancakes and pans to make eggs. She also explained that the waitresses always ask for any allergies and notify her of such. Then she takes it to the kitchen and instructs. My son has celiac and had the kids box with GF pancakes and pork sausage on the side. He had no reaction. He literally woofed down everything, as food was very tasty. He was very happy. One downside, relatively expensive even considering GF.
Had a great experience here. Our server Tara asked right away if there were any allergies at the table when we sat down. Once i ordered my food, she told me there was a completely separate area in the kitchen where the GF food is prepared. I enjoyed the cinnamon danish pancakes and they were amazing! All GF clearly marked on the menu as well. No reaction either.
A few gf options clearly marked. Server asked if anyone had an allergy and if cross contact was an issue right off the bat. Got the burger, substituted the bun for GF bread. The bread fell apart as expected, the burger overall wasn’t great was pretty over cooked and the hashbrowns don’t have much flavor.
Food was delicious. I was confused about ordering since gf choices looked limited, but order can be made with gf bread so that adds more options. Server asked if cc was an issure and I said yes. My food had a gluten free flag in it. Pancakes are made on a separate griddle. There was a line but it was only about a 15-20 min wait.
Fantastic options for gluten-free meals. My kids (8 and 12) who both have celiac said it was the best meal they’ve had since being diagnosed. The manager came and spoke to us about the safety precautions they have in place and assured us that everything would be prepared in a separate area and cooked on clean pans. So good we came back twice on our visit to Baltimore!
Walked from hotel to the restaurant. Huge indoor and outdoor seating is available. Recommend reservations on weekends. Open from 8 am to 3 pm. The menu is marked with GF labels but is misleading as many more options if you read each menu choice. They use a lot of breads so that turns regular menu items to non GF. Once I figured this out I was able to order a three egg, spinach, bacon, and cheese omelette with hash browns and GF toast. Large portions and very good food. They do have GF pancakes available as well. The expeditor declared GF plate when he handed me the meal. Recommend as definite brunch option.
I went at lunchtime from a conference at the convention center. It’s about a 10 minute walk. There weren’t a ton of options on the menu so I got the GF pancakes and sausage. The pancakes were thick and dry and lukewarm. Sausage was fine. Service was fine. I didn’t get sick. Basically a mediocre sage meal 🤷♀
We opted for takeaway as the line was massive to dine in and it was only 11:50am! But it was worth the wait, the gf pancakes were delicious (I got mine with banana)! Option to clarify that you’re allergic to gluten (not just presence) so that they can take extra precautions)! Well worth the visit!
I feel like this place is a bit overrated, not for gf but just in general. They were helpful and the food was safe (they asked about allergies and cross contact immediately upon seating) but I feel like it was really just standard diner fare? Taste was ok but not really worth the price imo.
This restaurant is very allergy friendly and even their door dash ordering system has lots of ways to mark your order with different allergies. I got the cinnamon danish pancakes prepared gluten free. The pancakes are very thick and heavy!! They have a distinct flavor that has almost a corn flavor. There wasn’t enough cinnamon topping to offset the taste of the cakes. I’m a bit particular about gf pancakes and prefer them to be more fluffy. Unfortunately I don’t think I would get these cakes again but there are so many options on the menu I would definitely try something else.
Great place! Very allergen friendly. First thing they asked when we sat down was if anyone had any food allergies.
Everything on the menu is marked and the waitstaff is very knowledgeable, even about cross-contamination. Food was good, just kind of tourist prices as expected.
I would definitely recommend!
Decent food and GF options. Knowledgeable about celiac and allergies. Maybe a bit overhyped. GF pancakes were good (had the cinnamon danish flavor add in) but a bit dense. Smalltimore Shirley quiche tasty but the vegetables were quite large in it. My husband said his gluten meal (gravy train) was a little disappointing, fried chicken a bit dry. My daughter (sensitive celiac) had a tummy ache after but we can’t be sure if it was cross contact or something else.
Extremely thorough. The waitress asked about allergies before we had a chance to mention our celiac precautions. After she took our order she brought our ticket to her manager who came and spoke to us about every specific item we ordered. She confirmed each item would be baked if needed, on clean pans, and if any contamination happened they will immediately toss the item and start over. I have never seen this level of attentiveness, especially in a diner setting. We ordered gf pancakes, omelettes, sandwich on gf bun and hash browns. Amazing!
Absolutely loved this experience!! At first thought this wasn’t going to be great as the hostess almost denied access for my service animal and I - but the management quickly explained to the hostess protocol and sat us away from others graciously. When say down waiter asked if we had allergies and I told him gluten and assured me everything was prepared separately, etc. I had GF banana choc chip pancakes! Delicious taste! (Slightly dense but nevertheless extremely good!)
As soon as the server came up to our table she asked if there were any allergies and notified her manager right away. The manager explained that gluten free orders are made on a separate/cleaned part of the kitchen (the only cross contact issue would be the gf waffles as they are made in the same waffle iron as regular ones). The food was delicious!
The gf pancakes are safe but not very tasty. My mom also gf got a garden omelette but was given one with bacon. Overall, the service is fine, just make sure to be very vocal about your allergy and double check to ensure they are doing everything on the gf skillet. The food was expensive and not very yummy.
