As soon as the server came up to our table she asked if there were any allergies and notified her manager right away. The manager explained that gluten free orders are made on a separate/cleaned part of the kitchen (the only cross contact issue would be the gf waffles as they are made in the same waffle iron as regular ones). The food was delicious!
The gf pancakes are safe but not very tasty. My mom also gf got a garden omelette but was given one with bacon. Overall, the service is fine, just make sure to be very vocal about your allergy and double check to ensure they are doing everything on the gf skillet. The food was expensive and not very yummy.
Amazing breakfast! I got the special pancakes they had, apparently they have a new special each month. Confirm what others have said, first thing server asked was about allergies/preferences. When I said gluten, she asked if cross contamination was a problem and I said yes. She said no problem. Server came out after a minute to let me know the special pancakes were a special batter that they couldn’t make gluten free but that it would have all the other stuff and I confirmed that would be fine. The pancakes still had apples baked into them and tasted amazing. No reaction so all good for me!
Spectacularly labeled menu. The first question the server asked all of her tables was, "Any allergies or aversions we should be aware of?" They have a dedicated area for gluten-free needs. The pineapple upside-down gluten-free pancakes were spectacular! I have never seen a stack as big as this one!
Our server greeted us and immediately asked about allergies. She wrote them down. She also asked about sensitivity issues. Menu was marked (gf, df, nf... etc). Manager checked on us. Great food and service. Plenty items for me to choose. I had no issues at all! Gluten free, dairy free, soy free
Felt completely comfortable eating here and the food was delicious. Waitstaff asked about food allergies and the floor manager came over to confirm about cross contamination risks. They cooked my eggs and my hash browns in a separate pan to reduce any cross contamination risks. Ordered the breakfast tacos which were labeled gluten free on the menu. They were amazing, and I will be back.
The waitress immediately asked if we had any allergies/issues with cross contamination and after we placed our order a manager came by the verify the allergy and that what was ordered was safe! They had many options and everything was well marked! I am not celiac but did not experience any issues after eating here!
The kids meal is really cool! It is served in a bento box style. My daughter had pancakes, eggs, yogurt and fruit. On the menu it shows what is gluten free with an orange circle and gf sign! I do wish they flagged the gf items though when bringing out food.
Gotta love a place that takes food allergies so seriously! My dining experience began with the waitstaff asking about any food allergies and they were more than accommodating with making sure they could handle my request for a GF meal.
The GF pancakes were awesome and the shrimp and grits is one of my favorite meals in the area. There’s a reason this place is always packed and has a long wait. Go put your name in, grab a coffee from the cafe next door, and walk around the nearby neighborhoods to kill some time. Well worth the wait!
Food is freshly made but not many GF options, was disappointed there weren’t more. Most of the menu is fried foods or non gf carbs.
I got the Bmore bowl. It was fresh and very tasty but the prices are pretty outrageous- it was $19 for the bowl. The spicy bloody mary was awesome! It cost $60 for bfast including 1 drink.
This may seem unfair based on the other reviews. I choose this place based on the reviews while in Annapolis for the day. They were extremely busy and there was a 30 minute wait. But I knew I could get Gluten free pancakes so I waited. I was seated the waitress did not ask if there were any allergies like in the above review. That was ok I am used to that. The waitress took the order but they had someone else bring the plate out. This gave me an uncomfortable feeling was it my gluten free pancakes?? Sorry Miss Shirley but they did not taste the best 😕. They were cool to the touch and like rubber.
First thing the wait staff asks at the table is if anyone has allergies. When I said celiac they explicitly wrote down that cross contamination was a concern, and while this didn’t happen to me I saw multiple tables have the chef out to discuss allergy issues and to check on ingredients. The gluten free menu is a little limited, but the pancakes were good enough for me to not care. Also, there are definitely things on the menu not explicitly marked as gluten free but that can be done safely (sides of both eggs and turkey sausage). Both times the waitresses confirmed with the chef to make sure as well.
I have a shellfish allergy & celiac and have a allergy detection service dog for both my allergens. Often when something is celiac safe, it’s CC risk for shellfish. This staff and the chefs were VERY knowledgeable. I ordered the Fiesta N Siesta without the corn chips as there was risk of CC from shellfish because of the fryer, but they are gluten free! The chef was incredible, took extra care & remade my food when my service dog alerted the first time because of one of the spices. He cleared it after words and it was absolutely delicious! I’d high recommend and would love to go back there honestly.
I have celiac disease and I was very confident with the care taken with my order. The waitress asked straight away if anyone had allergies. After I ordered, the manager came to our table and spoke to me about the precautions they take with allergies. I ordered gluten free blueberry pancakes and fruit salad. The portions were huge. 4 large pancakes. The pancakes were very dense-typical of a lot of gf items. Tasted pretty good. I never got sick which was awsome since I was traveling. I would definitely go there again if in the area.
We went there twice during our visit to Annapolis and both times were amazing. I got the quinoa omelette and the buttermilk pancakes (plus hot chocolate). All great options and they have separate pans for everything. They immediately ask first thing if there are any allergies they should be aware of. Great experience all around.
April 17, 2019- Fantastic. Servers and kitchen were very aware of cross-contamination and I had a wonderful meal. Ate the Maryland (crab) omelet with GF toast. All the items from their episode on Diners, drive-in and dives with Guy are not GF :-( Would have loved the Po' boy or the coconut cream french toast. Oh well. Lots of selection and I didn't get sick.
It is such a gift to find a restaurant that has top notch allergen awareness along with incredibly delicious food offerings! My daughter and I split an omelet and the gluten free pancakes. Both were fantastic! I would highly recommend Miss Shirley’s and only wish we lived closer to enjoy it more often!
Ordered gf pancakes. Okay, but dry. I was by myself. I would like to have given a higher rating, but server paid more attention to tables with more patrons. My first time, so I didn't know there were specials. Waited 15 mins to get order tsken. She did ask if my request for gf was preference or allergy. Never asked if I wanted more coffee. 20 mins from the time I finished until I was asked if I wanted my bill. Not able to get her attention during that time. I would go back to try something else and plan to be more aggressive if the service is so discriminatory against a single patron .
Wonderful experience. First question was "Does anyone have any allergies I should be aware of?" My son ordered the GF pancakes, an omelet with fresh fruit and GF toast. He was so happy. He tried to eat everything but got full. He can't wait to go again.
As soon as we sat down our server asked if anyone had any allergies and if cross-contamination was ok. After I told her I was celiac, she highlighted the few items I couldn’t have. My food was cooked in a separate pan (including hash browns) and came out separately. It was a fantastic experience.
The gf pancakes were tolerable but I would not recommend them. The service was great and my coworkers regular food looked amazing.
