I have only ever had good experiences at Miya's. All of the "soy sauce" at all of the tables is actually gluten-free tamari (they don't advertise this, probably so they don't scare away regular folks). The fryer does contain gluten, which is problematic for celiacs like me. However, if they aren't too busy, the cooks have often specially pan-fried the tofu so I can have the agedashi. There are many great gluten free options that aren't fried, too. Most of the staff are very knowledgeable about celiac disease and cross-contamination. Every once in a blue moon, however, you will get someone clueless, so it's a good idea to be very upfront about your needs and double-check that you're getting the right dish.

Miyas is experimental sushi. Some find it delightful and some are less adventurous, but don't downvote it because it didn't have the same bland sub-par maki as the rest of CT. You can see what it is from the menu and they have more normal rolls in the back. Unless they're new, all of the servers are pretty well versed in GF and the chefs are careful. I've been going here for years and never once felt even a little sick afterwards. One of the most innovative restaurants in CT.

This place has really adventurous and interesting food and I definitely respect their attitude towards conservation and health, however they do not seem sufficiently versed in safety for people with celiac disease. It took asking a lot of questions to figure what was and wasn't gluten free as the menu is complex and I ended up getting a roll that, after I bit into, discovered it unexpectedly had a breaded and fried ingredient (fried in a common fryer) despite checking with the waiter multiple times to ensure that this didn't happen. This led to a day of not feeling very well :(. The meal also took a very long time to be prepared. I would say that if you choose to try this restaurant, just be extra careful and ask A LOT of questions, and know that there is a common fryer and potential for mistakes.

The food is fantastic, although not strictly traditional sushi. There are many vegetarian options and plenty of gluten free options. The staff is helpful, friendly, and attentive. They are knowledgeable about gluten, and they have tamari "soy sauce." One of my favorite places in New Haven.

I also had a very good experience. Extremely knowledgeable staff who will even make GF tempura of you call ahead. But know this is not the standard sushi place. The food is local and experimental

Knowledgable staff. Made me a special order of sushi, and there were several GF salad and appetizer options. The default sushi "rice" can contain oats, but discuss with your server

This place does not have any hluten free option. Everything in the menu has soy sauce. The waiters do not know what is gluten. I ordered rice and had soy sauce as well. I will never go back!
