Mod has great tasting pizza with a build-your-own concept. The problem is that depending on the person making your pizza, you will get little protection from cross-contamination. I had to stop the guy from using his flour-covered hands to pick up my gluten-free crust. They go through the motions of making it “safer” by having the crust in a separate location, changing gloves if asked, and using a different cutter for gf pizzas, but all the utensils used to spread sauces are the same as far as I could tell. If you aren’t very sensitive to gluten then you may be okay, but sadly, celiacs should stay very far away. The rating is a split between the gluten-free pizza being very tasty versus it not doing anywhere near enough to ensure that it’s safe to eat.
Although they have two options for GF crusts, one a GF flour crust and the other a cauliflower crust, they prepare the pizzas on the same work surface causing cross contamination. Fine for people reducing gluten in their diet but not safe for celiacs.
The person starting our pizzas use the same utensils for a regular pizza as the gluten free pizza.
In a colossal failure of marketing, Mod Pizza names their gluten-free crust GLUTEN FRIENDLY. It’s like naming a milkshake chocolate lover to designate that it’s vanilla. I can’t even say how annoying I find that, because my whole problem is that my body is decidedly unfriendly to gluten. They make no claims to serving gluten-free pizza, offering the standard disclaimer about being made in a facility that processed wheat, and it’s just as well because they don’t take precautions like changing their gloves or cleaning the area the way other places do. The crust itself is one of the larger gluten-free-ish crusts available in the area. I could easily make two meals out of it, as opposed to other single sized gluten-free crusts that always seem a little too big to eat in one sitting and too small to be two meals. The crust itself, as pretty much all gluten-free crusts tend to be, was bland. It was crispy in the edges and weirdly doughy in the center, given that it’s precooked. They have a wide variety of toppings and the veggies are really fresh. However, I ordered spinach on mine and watched in disbelief as the person in the line carefully distribute five tiny baby spinach leaves across the crust. The pizza cooks really fast, but vegetables like green pepper cake out completely raw while the edge of the crust was burnt. So far I’m not a fan, but it’s also a new location so maybe they need time to get the kinks worked out. But I prefer Piology who offers a thin crispy crust and an automatic glove change or &pizza, who changes their gloves and wipe down the counters and have a delicious Smart Flour crust. If only they would open a location a minute from my house! Updated: because my kids’ school has a fundraiser here I ate here a second time. This time they changed their gloves when told I had a wheat allergy and took precautions. I ordered the Tristan with some extra veggies and it came out tasty and crispy, perhaps because they added the pesto sauce last. However, despite their precautions, my stomach was a little off today, so I still don’t consider it celiac safe. Still not the best, but has shown improvement.
This place was not good at all. The gluten free crust was tough. The staff was rude and told us that our order made something “harder” just by asking for half of the pizza with olive oil. Would not recommend. You are way better off going to Blaze pizza. They also would not separate the gluten free and non gluten free pizzas properly.

This place is not good for anyone who has celiac. The staff at the location (Naperville)were rude and acted very put out when we asked them to change gloves and give us new pans for our pizza. Then she proceeded to tell us that there was a long line behind us so she would have to make ours separate. Very frustrating.
Updated review: The same thing that happened to Cheryl happened to me the first time. I decided to give it another try. I explained that I’d tried them before and needed more assurance the pizza would be safe. I went early for lunch. I asked how they cleaned the metal trays they bake their pizza on. He said one stack of pans had just been washed (not sure how). I ordered a GF cauliflower crust pizza (see photo) and didn’t have any symptoms. I would try it again, but only if I was there very early, to avoid items becoming contaminated. First review: I ate here once and was sick afterwards. Yes, the pizza tasted very good. Yes, they have gluten free crusts that come wrapped, but they put that gluten free crust on a tray that they grab off a stack of trays used for wheat pizza. There are no separate trays for gluten free. I would not recommend it if you have celiac disease.
NOT safe for allergies/celiac. They do not put the pizza on a pan but rather slide it straight in the oven with the glutenous pizzas. They have signs in the store that clearly state they have gf products but are not safe for allergies. Head to Pikes and fill your face with GF cinnamon rolls from Cinnamon Works instead 😁
Crust sits directly in the oven, no pan, same surface as gluten pizza. Staff couldn’t answer basic questions about prep/cooking process.
There is no glove changing with gluten free request and ALL pizza goes in dough first into the oven. Currently suffering, wanted to save others 😭🙅🏻♀️
They said they "knew" what they were doing. The lady that was handling the regular crusts grabbed the cheese for my pizza from the front even after we discussed getting toppings from the back with clean gloves. When we told her that would make me sick, they openly mocked me and treated me like a diva. Not helpful, rude, and absolutely no clue how to do gluten free.
This chain no longer accommodates for gluten free pizzas. Over time, they have not maintained the screens and place wheat flour pizzas all over the oven. When they opened a few years ago, they took the time to separate the pizzas in the oven and use separate utensils, this is no longer part of their process. You will get glutened at any Mod or similar chains
The guy took a used pizza pan, shook it to remove glutinous crust, placed the gluten free pizza dough on the pan, swabbed pizza sauce on it with the same ladle he had used to swab a glutinous pizza dough using sauce that was contaminated with gluten. I reacted to it. So, don’t eat there if you cannot handle contaminated food.
F-ing rip. Don't do it. Just don't. GF ingredients are pulled from the same containers as regular pizzas (cross contamination), pizza goes directly on oven (same as non gf pizzas), sure they changed their gloves but that was literally the only gf part of this experience.
Not safe if you are celiac. Although they have a gluten free pizza crust in a different location they don’t change their gloves and use the same sauce scooper and touch the dough to spread the sauce. At one point they even laid a regular pizza and tray on the gluten free paper. No new toppings were used either.
MOD Pizza offers gluten friendly pizza crust. I am celiac and I was fine with the gluten friendly crust. My Margarita pizza and salad were both delicious! They also could make the dessert pizza on the gluten friendly crust, which was very tasty as well!
Not safe for celiacs due to the way they make the pizzas in oven and transfer via paddle. They could not identify which toppings were gf and seemed pretty indifferent about helping (told me I could look on their website for help — which clearly states that it is not a safe place for people who need to be gf). Hard pass.
I can’t believe I’m the first to review this amazing place!! My daughter was as happy as can be. She not only could have gluten free pizza. But she could have dairy free cheese!! The pizza is super large and plenty for 2 meals. The pizza was much better than we expected this was our first attempt at trying Dairy Free Cheese.
Gf regular crust plus cauliflower crust options available. NOT celiac safe- once everything is open there is a chance of cross contamination. Customize a personal size pizza which they quick bake. BBQ pizza was delicious! (Teas not so much) tad pricey.
Gluten free crust was good. There’s also a gluten free cauliflower crust, but it has cheese in it. (I need to eat dairy free as well as gf) The dairy free cheese was very good!! The pizza & salad tasted great, many options. Easiest to look at the menus online to see allergens by ingredients. However, pizzas are all cooked in the same oven & they use same pizza cutter. Staff mixed up my order many times but they did make it right.

Updated: we love this location and have had zero issues over the past year. We have always loved mod pizza and we’re excited this one opened up. They offer GF pizza crust. The staff here appear to be learning, and they haven’t written down our orders when we are there, so we have had a few issues (wrong pizza on GF crust, pizza not in GF crust). Hopefully those will be sorted out. We haven’t had issues at other locations
Gluten free crust was great, but staff is not knowledgeable about celiac or cross contamination. They don’t place the GF pizzas on any sort of rack to keep them from coming in contact with gluten when placed in the ovens.
As stated on their menu, GLUTEN FRIENDLY crust. It’s fired in the same oven as their regular dough so cross contamination is a given, NOT celiac friendly. They will change gloves and also have dairy free cheese. I haven’t gotten sick from eating with MOD and am happy I have a pizza option that doesn’t cost $20+ as I love loading veggies on mine.
