The reviewers so far have all complained about the potential x-contamination of pizza in the oven, which is a legitimate concern. There would ideally be a second dedicated oven for GF pizzas, for those that are especially sensitive or celiac. HOWEVER. No one's mentioned actually trying something that's both healthy and less prone to x-contamination: the salads. I've gone at least 3-4 times and had no problems with their salad ingredients, sauces, or the way that the staff prepared the salad. I mentioned that I was gluten intolerant and they were happy enough to change their gloves and used a dedicated tongs for pulling ingredients in the bar into the bowl. I can't promise that MOD salads are celiac-friendly, but they were at least GF enough for my needs & purposes.
for their gluten free crust they use a Frozen disc that tastes like cardboard. terrible, and high-priced also
This place is a cross-contamination nightmare if you order pizza. They don’t change their gloves, use same utensils for all Pizza g and gf and then place gf pizzas on the oven surface with the gluten pizzas.
Gluten free pizza crusts. The cook in the same oven as regular pizza crust so cross contamination is likely.
Thought I would check it out... no dedicated oven and not trained at all on cross contamination... same gloves for both my daughter I my pizza and toppings same sauce rubbed all over gluten crust. So disappointing. I’m the celiac not her thank goodness :(
Although they have a gluten free crust option, I would not advise coming here if you have celiac or high gluten intolerance. I spoke to the employees who were so kind and honest, they can't guarantee no contamination. They only use one oven, and can only wipe it down if needed.
This is ONLY for gluten sensitive/ intolerant as they bake the pizza directly on the same surface as regular pizza thus cross contamination is certain.
Wow, cross contamination and just plain uncaring. The same gloved hand (w holes in it due to long nails) rubbed down garlic on the crust if a glutinous pizza followed by the same ladle used to scoop sauce was used to spread the sauce and then put back in the vat of sauce. Allergies aside the food practices were a major turn off. All of the employees looked miserable and the bathroom smelled aweful. Definitely would not recommend.
Kudos for having a gluten-free crust option, but other than that it was definitely not a good experience. The staff member assisting us was visibly irked at having to make any changes. He wasn’t going to change his gloves, and when I asked him if he could, he told me that since they were not a dedicated gluten-free facility, I ran the risk of running into cross contamination. He just didn’t understand that even non-gluten-free restaurants change their gloves and clean off services when dealing with an allergy. Another (very kind) staff member volunteered to take over my order, and he was very nice. What happened next was not his fault. He was very accommodating, but completely uneducated when it came to handling the order. He changed his gloves at my request, but the ladle used for dipping sauceIs dragged across the surface of the pizza for every order, thus cross contaminating the entire batch of sauce. There were obviously flour and crumbs everywhere, and the pizza is fired and rolled on the same surface as regular crusts. Lastly, the pizza is cut with the same pizza cutter. I jumped in just in time to tell them not to cut the pizza. I still ordered, knowing that my non celiac family would eat the pizza if I was uncomfortable eating it. I tried one slice, and immediately knew that if I finished anymore, then I would regret it. If this restaurant is going to offer gluten-free crust, they absolutely need to do more in educating their staff. I’m not sure what steps they would need to take to minimize cross contamination in other ways, but as far as being a safe place to eat, this definitely was one of the least successful places I’ve ever been to. Update! I did speak with a manager about the cross contamination situation. I hate complaining and I’m not one who usually goes to management about a negative experience, but I thought they should know since they offer the gluten-free crust option. She insisted that they always use separate cutters and separate crusts, but they use the same oven, same paddle, and other utensils are shared as well. Very slight changes could be made here, such as only firing gluten-free crust on a certain side of the oven or even just flipping the paddle over. None of this seems to be considered by staff or management there; it seems like gluten-free crusts are only offered because of corporate requirement. But beyond that, there is definitely no real desire to accommodate anything other than your average pizza.
MOD has jumped to the top of my lunch time go to list! Their GF pizza is awesome! I actually look forward to the days when the guys at work want pizza because ordering is super simple & clearly states GF crust. For a fast food pizza place they really have it going on!
I ate here once and was sick afterwards. Yes, the pizza tasted very good. Yes, they have gluten free crusts that come wrapped, but they put that gluten free crust on a tray that they grab off a stack of trays used for wheat pizza. There are no separate trays for gluten free. I would not recommend it if you have celiac disease.
Not good they don’t put the pizza on a tray it goes straight into the oven without a pan. Don’t go if you have celiac big cross contamination
would be gluten friendly if they had a dedicated cooking area. is it that hard to put a pizza on an unused pan for people with allergies, celiac, etc.? so SO dumb, i can’t believe that they don’t make it like that so people with allergies can eat there. they have dairy free cheese but MOD Pizza doesn’t help out people with gluten allergies/intolerance. it blows my mind how easy it would be to make it celiac friendly but yet they don’t. seriously, i’m SOOOO ?????
They are aware of gluten allergies and will do a glove change when handling your food. Gluten free crust available for extra $2
This place just opened and I have to give it a bit of credit: they have a very large, pre-baked GF pizza crust that tastes pretty good and is decently priced. However, don’t expect the staff to know what to do with it. Both times I’ve gone, they grabbed the GF crust and immediately contaminated it with shared sauce, then baked it in the large shared oven (without a rubber tray like Blaze uses), and sliced it with a shared slicer. They were also completely confused when I mentioned a gluten allergy. I think the only reason this option exists is to cater to “fad” dieters who won’t get sick if their product gets done cross-contamination because it’s pretty clear the staff and management have no training.If you’re not a celiac and are just eating gluten free because it’s neat or healthy or whatever, you’ll probably like the food. If you’re a celiac, avoid this place.
The staff was very accomodating as they changed gloves and were aware of cross contamination. They also knew which toppings were GF as most are. The pizza was good, crust slightly chewy but that is to be expected. I would recommend. Not sure if it would be 100%celiac friendly but they did a great job.
Gluten free crust was delicious! However server didn’t change gloves and the utensil for sauce is the same for all pizzas. Pizza is also cooked in the same oven with no pan. Great place if you are just going gluten free, but would not recommend if you have celiac.
Would give it zero stars. When I Asked how they cooked the gluten free pizza (was it separate or not/was it cooked in its own dish) they told me they just place it in the same oven as the regular stuff. Why even have gluten free options if you cross contaminate when cooking?!?
Nope. Stay away. They cook the GF pizza on the same stone surface as the regular ones. No way to avoid gluten
While they do change their gloves and use a separate pizza cutter, there is a great chance for cross contamination. That being said, we eat here several times a month and have never gotten sick. You can’t beat the size of the pizza and the very reasonable price for unlimited amount of toppings. Love it!
absolutely terrible. they no longer put pizza on parchment, use gf implements to handle the pizza, told me it was fine because the oven was hot enough (whatever that is supposed to mean) and said they have no plans to update their page to alert customers needing gf. avoid.
When my husband asked for gluten free, the worker changed her gloves. That was the end of the safety. She set the pizza right on the counter, used the same sauce and ladle as the regular pizza, it went on the same oven surface as all other pizzas. Don't eat here if you're celiac!
We have always loved mod pizza and we’re excited this one opened up. They offer GF pizza crust. The staff here appear to be learning, and they haven’t written down our orders when we are there, so we have had a few issues (wrong pizza on GF crust, pizza not in GF crust). Hopefully those will be sorted out. We haven’t had issues at other locations
The GF crust is delicious, but they definitely don't go out of their way to avoid cross contamination. I've never gotten sick here, but I wouldn't guarantee it's celiac friendly.
