Came in for the lunch service and told the hostess that I was a gluten free diner. She didn't know what to recommend but got the manager who patiently walked us through the menu and what we could and could not order.
One of us got the steak tacos and I got the steak and frites but with vegetables since the fries are from a shared fryer. Both dishes were extremely good, and I would eat here again.
Loved Moku - had the kale salad and sirloin tacos, both gf. Waiter came back to let me know the miso dressing was gf but came from a factory that also processed gluten…I was impressed. Husband had the ahi tuna tacos and loved those too. Menu is not marked gf, no dedicated fryer so options are limited. Regardless, one of the best meals we had on Oahu.
Asked about GF, they were upfront about cross contamination but they would take every precaution they can. I got the fish tacos and I didn’t get sick afterwards which is always a win! The tacos were okay but again, I didn’t get sick so that makes them awesome. It is a loud place though, couldn’t hear the people across from me at the table. They do have live music which is nice.
Things weren’t marked GF on the menu but the waiter told me I could have the fish tacos and they are very careful with cross contamination (I didn’t ask about the rest of the menu). The waiter confirmed gloves were changed when he brought out the food. I’m celiac and felt fine after eating here. Will definitely return.
Update: sadly, they don’t have a gluten free fryer anymore
The server was able to confidently list all their gluten free options. When I asked about the mole on the tacos he went back to the kitchen to ask the chef about if it was gluten free and was able to confirm. The services was great and counter ordering person was able to answer all my questions.
Right now there is a system where you order at the bar and they bring the food out. I chose here due to a recent positive review on this app. I asked about gf options and they said the tacos should be safe but the person didn't seem 100% confident. I asked about the fries and was told that normally only the fries are made in the fryer, however occasionally someone wants the ravioli deep fried so I shouldn't take the risk. I appreciated that - I ordered the fish tacos, carne asada tacos, and shrimp deviled eggs. I'm not sure that my order was tagged with an allergy or gloves were changed. I thought it was safe but I got sick within a few hours so I'm not sure if I'd risk it again. I think I put more trust in than I should have due to that other review but maybe I had a different crew.
Nice atmosphere, servers are knowledgeable able gluten free. They brought ne a salad with pita bread and immediately recognized the mistake and got a new one. Green beans w/ no soy sauce. salads. Fish tacos had a good size chunk of fish, some sandwiches protein style. No pizzas, no dedicated fryer. Dessert- berries & whipped cream or ice cream.
On my most recent visit I was told there was no allergy menu but my waiter told me a few dishes that "should be safe." After a lot of back and forth about what salad dressings would be GF, I ordered the most basic salad with fish and dressing on the side, which I was assured was GF. I was then given a salad with dressing already on it which wasn't reassuring.
My waiter was very confused the entire time about what I was ordering. In the end against my better judgement, I ate one lobster deviled egg, salad, dressing and fish which was all assured GF. The manager came out to say that I "didn't need to be afraid".
I was horrifically sick 20 mins later and for over 24hrs with gluten exposure symptoms. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone Celiac or NCGS.
Super friendly wait staff! Sort of knowledgeable about gluten free options - the vegetable plate and brussle sprouts were offered. I asked about the lobster deviled eggs, and those were brought out with the promise of the kitchen that it was GF. She also noted that many other GF people order the fish tacos. Which looked safe and were on a white corn tortilla.
The house vodka, PAU Maui Vodka is gluten free - I looked it up. And they have several specialty drinks with it. So as usual I drank alcohol for dinner while my family ate. Not celiac friendly only due to the staff not really knowing answers to things.
So, I did my due diligence and asked about my GF options. The server didn’t know exactly but said he’d mark the ticket as GF so the chefs would make sure it was GF. I ordered a paradise cider, kale salad with orange vinaigrette, the rib eye steak (medium well), and Brussels sprouts. The steak came out pretty rare so I had to send it back. I ordered the chicken wings instead. My belly started bubbling while at the restaurant and asked once more about the sauces. I was reassured it was GF. The manager also assured me. Unfortunately I have had a bad reaction, my classic gluten belly (diarrhea, bloating, gas). I haven’t had this in months maybe years. It’s a shame they couldn’t get it together in the GF dept cuz yes very tasty and fun vibe. But in my opinion not worth the belly ache and other subsequent side effects.
