The portions were substancial and quality was good, super tasty.
I felt insecure to go anywhere because it seems that there's little (in some places none) awareness on cross-contamination issues, but Moosewood was safe and seem to know about our (Celiac) issues. People who have restaurants that try to offer gluten free options SHOULD have the proper knowledge on our disease and CC, they MUST understand that this is not an option for us.
— Gluten-free items are marked on the main menu
I've eaten as Moosewood four times. There seems to be something very wrong with this venue. I've rarely ever heard a dish break at any other venue, but here, every time I ate there I heard dishes breaking. This most recent time (November 2017) I heard two dishes break during my meal, then shortly after I finished someone dropped and broke a bowl right behind my chair and I had to move in order for them to clean it up.
There is also absurdly long waits, and the staff seems to highly pressure you to leave the moment you're done eating. Even though I've always had a reservation it is usually quite a while after that time before they get around to seating us, and then after having been there for 40 minutes they want to rush us out, because of course they've let too many people reserve to have anyone seated on time.
On top of all of that, the third time I was there they actually brought me spoiled squash on my salad. They actually ran back out saying, "No, don't it! It's spoiled! We didn't realize!" This was already after getting my salad wrong the first time, and then the second time they put spoiled food on it, and by the time my correct salad came out, my two companions were almost finished eating.
The food that I've eaten has always been delicious, but the menu is very limited if you want something vegan, gluten-free and sweetener-free. In conclusion, I won't be back again.
I'm a fan of the Moosewood cookbooks, so I was thrilled to get a chance to check it out. GF options are clearly marked -- but the menu is small and vegetarian, so they are also limited. I'd suggested checking the menu ahead of time to make sure it suits your needs. I had the Hoppin' John, requested GF and vegan (w/o cheese -- the dish is gluten-free) and it was incredibly tasty. I would visit again.
The dinner was wonderful. There were plenty of options. However, based on the speed and vengeance of my reaction, I consumed more gluten than just cross contamination. With only two restrooms and a long line, it was a deadly combination. I will never eat there again!
We were searching for healthy, GF food when visiting Ithaca and Moosewood met our needs. We learned that they have been in business since the 1970s and they really knew their ingredients. Very wholesome menu with tasty options.
SO good! things are clearly labeled of they are gf or vegan and lots of vegetable options. the menu changes daily, so check back frequently. I disagree with the previous reviewer- it is NOT over-rated :)
I asked for G-free. Onion soup brought with croutons. Brought new bowl out on request. Limited selection of entrees. Butternut chickpea strew was okay, but not delicious. Salmon was supposed to have coconut chutney. Instead it had a spicy green garnish. Probably won't go back. We were told it was overrated. Should have listened!
