They have Local Oven buns again at this location. You have to ask them to change their gloves.
Don't go here!! No dedicated fryer like others mentioned. A burger just wrapped in lettuce might be safe, but I was afraid to try it.
NO MORE GF BUNS. It's discontinued. But they still have dedicated fryer. Good ice turkey burger.
This location still has a dedicated fryer for regular french fries but on our visit today we were informed that they no longer sell gluten free buns and only offer the iceburger (lettuce wrap) as a gluten free burger option. This came as a major disappointment because we have a Mooyah burger closer to our house but drove to this one specifically because it shows on this site that they have gluten free buns from local oven.
THANK YOU MOOYAH for giving me back my burger and fries! I called them before we went and the man I spoke with was very knowledgeable about gluten. He explained to me they have gluten free buns, and three separate fryers. The first is dedicated to regular french fried, the second to sweet potato fries, and the third to chicken. For was amazing, and service was great. We will go back many times.
They DO have gfree buns! They are delicious! The fries are outstanding!
Food was very good, but beware that they do NOT have gluten-free hamburger buns! They will wrap a burger in lettuce... but what kid wants that? Fries are very good and cooked in a gluten-free fryer.
Went in bc of this app, and the cashier looked at me like I was nuts and told me nothing they served was gluten-free.
This place is great for Celiacs! they are very knowledgeable on what you can have. There isnt a gluten-free buns but they have iceberg lettuce that they make bun shaped. the fries are hand cut potatoes only no gluten, and are fried separately in a basket. not fried with other items. the manager was super friendly and more than willing to accommodate any dietary needs. the burgers are outstanding, great meat!
The fries both sweet potato and regular were very good. The fry sauce is similar to in N out sauce, but better. I had a Swiss cheese, avocado, and mushroom burger and the GF bun. The bun was tasty, however so crumbly that I had to eat it with a fork. I will get the lettuce wrap next time. The staff was awesome and everyone changed their gloves. I ordered a small size fries, it seemed like lot. The cowboy and I ate for around $25. We will be back!
They do not carry GF buns, despite what you read online. When I asked about dedicated fryers, I was asked the scariest question in the world: Are you really allergic? The manager then shook his head and said, "If I was you, I wouldn't eat them." Burger was OK, though.
Delicious gluten free burgers. They make everything on the menu for gluten free needs, even has a dedicated fryer.
Finally a place that knows what Celiac Disease is! The manager was awesome and even explained how they prevent cross-contamination with their french fries. He let me know the sweet potato fries contained oat flour, so they may not be safe for those of us with Celiac. The regular french fries are gluten free and safe though! I can honestly say I haven't been to a restaurant where anyone was so knowledgeable about cross-contamination and gluten. I'll definitely be back!
They don't know gluten free. No dedicated fryer so the fries will give you a gluten reaction. I told the person that I had a problem with wheat, that they had to change their gloves, the whole bit. That message did not get to the kitchen. I watched as they would pick up a roll, then pick up the lettuce. Then pick up another roll, then adjust the lettuce. I told them that I couldn't eat what they were making me and asked for a refund.
Great fries made in dedicated fryer. Anytime I can get a burger on a bun in any restaurant I'm happy! I have celiac & had no problems.
Not safe for Celiac. No one changed their gloves. The employees didn't have a specific job, even though there were several standing around. One would handle the buns, than handle the fries, and never change gloves. Huge risk for cross contact. Very disappointed due to the large numbers of good reviews. Was visiting from out of state. Did not eat their food. Not knowledgeable at all in regards to safe practices for Celiac.
Hamburger tasted great, could have sweet potato or regular french fries. Employees seemed to be very knowledgeable about their seasonings and gf safe prep. Giving 4 stars because although they have signs offering gf bun, they fail to notify you of the $2 upcharge even at the register. FYI, small fry is plenty big enough portion to feed 2 adults. Overall, very good and would eat here again.
Beat gluten free sweet potato fries I have ever had. Gluten Free bun is not mentioned on the menu but is available for $2 extra.
This location does not have gluten free buns like the listing says it does, however they do have an option to wrap your burger in lettuce. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. They could tell me that the fries had their own fryer and the burger was delicious!
We have been here at least six times we have had a consistent experience every time and NEVER waited more than 10minutes for our food--which btw is cooked fresh to order-plus fresh cut fries (the large comes on a baking sheet to feed the whole family)AND fresh baked buns (not GF but the rest of the family loves them) The GF option is on a salad (no onion straws--OR a very nicely made lettuce cup) You are paying for quality food it's Comparable to Meatheads/5guys prices (my opinion better tasting)--if you want cheap (ps have you ever wondered WHY their food is SO cheap?) and fast-- McDonalds is down the street. The owners always take VERY special care of me--I have a gluten allergy I make a lot of requests --they gladly oblige with a smile- they change their gloves and the same person follows my food all the way through the line--that was without me asking! The fact that they know what a gluten allergy is and how to best avoid cross contamination is not something that I experience very often in ANY restaurant. I strongly recommend Mooyah's of Joliet and I will be back again very soon! Note: the fryer is listed as a cross contamination risk--it is not listed as dedicated but has separate sections where they fry different items--I do react to cross contamination and have yet to react to their fries--I wouldn't risk it if you are super sensitive but...
They DO NOT have a dedicated frier. The employee informed me that they cook fried chicken in the same frier. Also, they have a lettuce wrapped burger option, but a assembly line for the add-ons and sauces and everything is touched with the same gloves and cross-contaminated. GF only if you choose not to eat it, NOT suitable for celiacs or allergies!
Extemely knowledgable about what is gf safe and cross-contamination. asked if j wanted them to change gloves! Regular fries have their own fryer, but sweet potato fries are normally fries with onion strings. Upon request, they will put the sweet potato fries in gf frier for you! Excellent food and service. Will be back!
This particular location has a dedicated fryer for the fries but sometimes gf buns are a little cold. An okay burger, satisfies my fries cravings though!
The burgers and fries were so good. The gluten free bun wasn't huge and dry like most gf buns I've had. I felt like a regular person here eating really great food. Just make sure to tell them you have celiacs disease. they knew exactly what that meant, and they make sure your fries are gf and they change gloves.
Burger was great!!!! My fries were cold but the burger was well worth it!! Yummy gluten free bun
MOOYAH BURGERS - Coit and Campbell - NO GF FRIES. They offer GF burgers if you order them. The manager said they do NOT offer GF fries. The MOOYAH website says their fries are NOT GF. http://www.mooyah.com/menu_nutrition/MOOYAH_Allergen_Info_9.11.14
Do they have gluten free options? Yes. Do they care about changing gloves while touching your lettuce wrapped burger? NOOO and are completely rude about it when you ask them to be careful because of your allergy. The female manager was very kind the males not so much, flat out rude. Won't go back.
I've been here a few times and had a good experience and an awesome burger. However, they aren't consistent in actually having GF buns on hand, and it's absolutely infuriating! You can always get the burger wrapped in lettuce, but let's be honest, if I wanted that-- oh wait, I DONT want that! Annoying. Obviously, if you're consistently running out, you're not buying enough.
New burger place opened up right down the road. You can order an "iceburger," which is a burger on lettuce. All toppings are GF. They will gladly change their gloves and have just one person handle the burger for you if you ask. The first day (their opening day), the manager himself made it for me and brought it out to me. Very impressed! We were back two days later. Didn't get sick either time! They even have a black bean burger.
I'm updating my review after my recent positive experience. The manager was very helpful and informed me that they would change their gloves and clean the grill before preparing my order. They do have a dedicated fryer for fries if you request it. I prefer the Iceburger to the gluten free bun.
