I asked them for gluten free rice noodles, but they ended up giving me the regular one. I saw that some reviews of the place had said that they offered this substitution. When I messaged them to tell them that I couldn't eat this, they didn't offer me a refund or store credit. They did apologize at least. Check with them before you order, don't assume that their ingredients are gluten-free. Although the noodles looked fresh and tasty, I unfortunately had to give my entree away.

I'm gluten free due to celiac disease and was recommended by a friend to try Mr. Chen's because they can make custom orders of their dishes. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I messaged the restaurant asking if they can use tamari as a vegan, gluten-free substitute for soy sauce, and they verified that they could. However, when my tofu and vegetables arrived, it was soaked in what was obviously a soy based stir-fry sauce which I can't eat. I messaged them again asking for a refund or store credit, but they didn't respond this time. I'm still trying to get in touch to get a refund.

I called to ask if they use gluten-free soy sauce but they didn’t understand my question. I ordered chicken with mixed vegetables and asked for white instead of brown sauce but I got the default brown sauce which has soy sauce in it. Not sure about cross-contamination, but probably difficult with Chinese cooking since everything goes into the same wok.

When I called to ask for gluten free options, they were very unhelpful and rude. They are not accommodating. Do not recommend.

The food was delicious! He helped us find gluten free and soy free options. I didn’t get sick and I’m really sensitive. Definitely check it out if you are in the area!

Celiac friendly?

Yes

Although I don't have celiac, I have food sensitivities that require me to avoid gluten, dairy, garlic and onion. The staff at Mr. Chen's is lovely and they modify dishes to meet my needs. Excellent food and gracious staff.
