I see that this is the #1 rated GF Mexican restaurant. I went there twice in about a month. The first time it was great. The second time I ordered the exact same meal and I ended up going to the ER via ambulance later that night.
All I can think is that I was served flour instead of corn tortillas. I was with a new friend and was nonstop talking so I didn’t study them. However, they make their tortillas so it is not as easy to tell the difference.
About 90 minutes later, when it usually happens to me, I began vomiting. It was the worst attack that I have had. I finally realized that I need the ER but then was too much in pain to move.
In the flip side, I received excellent care from the Irvington Volunteer Fire Department and the Methodist ER. I didn’t know that there was a clock in the ambulance that the patient can see. I was rolled into the ambulance at 10:00, got to Methodist at 10:30 and was discharged at 12:05. Two anti-nausea meds, a bag of fluids, and two giant potassium pills given swiftly.
They also sent me home with a prescription of Zofran which I now carry with me everywhere.
I write this as a caution. You can never be too careful. If you get as sick as I do, be more careful than I was that night. Do not rely on past experience. I ordered the same meal, was vocal about my celiac diagnosis, but did not study my meal when I received it.
I need to go down and talk with the Manager to let him know what happened. I just rarely eat out and I got busy. This has reminded me to do that.

Very aware of what is gluten-free or not. They DO NOT have a dedicated fryer so that will eliminate some menu options. I had two different tacos and the street corn - it was a very good.

Amazing food and service. The server was on top of everything, he communicated with the kitchen about my needs and I did not get sick. Bonus the Pineapple salsa was awesome!

I was really disappointed to see that the rating was not good for being safe for celiac. I am celiac and have eaten here many times without ever having a problem. The staff is knowledgeable and they will double-check if they themselves are not 100% certain about something. The accommodations are great. The food is AMAZING. My one hang-up is that the chips are not fried in a separate fryer so no chips and salsa if you're GF.

I ate here last night, and the waiter seemed to know nothing about GF stuff, and the menu was marked but questionable (for example the beans are marked GF yet list cerveza as an ingredient), and there are few GF options. I felt queasy after I left but I never ended up actually getting sick. Honestly, the food just isn’t good enough to be worth the risk.

They went above and beyond and were very educated about Celiacs
Yes
The food overall is amazing. The menu has notes about GF items. The chips and other fried items are fried in a shared fryer which is disappointing as they are great!
No
The menu had gf noted next to the items. Staff was knowledgeable about things needing to be gf. Had no reaction from eating here. Will definitely dine again!
margaritas were awesome. food was awesome. something made me feel foggy.... I think the chips might be made in a shared fryer. I've never gone back again. I wish I wasn't celiac because I really liked the restaurant, but I am. So, no dice.

They used to have a menu... Couldn't find the gluten free menu tonight. That doesn't sound safe

One of my favorite new finds! Use fresh ingredients and great choices for GF with a very knowledgeable staff. The fryer is used for all food, so chips are not safe-but was able to bring my own. Salsas are extra, but so worth it - the spicy pineapple is great. Guacamoles are exceptional. House margarita- very good!
