I love this place. They are very accommodating to food intolerances for the most part. I told the guy at the counter that I had to be dairy, soy and gluten free. Everything is dairy free anyway, so it was just the soy and gluten. He told me how I can make it gluten free. He then asked if I wanted sweet potato fries. I said yes and assumed they were safe. My aunt saw later on that it didn't say next to the fries GF, so I asked the guy if they were completely gluten free and he said they were cooked in the same oil that flour is in. I didn't eat that many and when I found out, I immediately stopped eating them. The guy said nobody has complained. Well here is my complaint. I have had a very bad stomach ache all day and haven't been able to eat much. Please don't be ignorant about cross reactive foods.
Amazing food! I've never tried to eat vegan but I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious this all was. Seriously tasty and really filling. I spoke to the woman at the counter and she said they would change gloves, utensils, and work surfaces when preparing my food; I have celiac and am very sensitive but I didn't have a reaction to anything. However, some of their gluten free menu items are fried in a non-dedicated GF frier so be careful when ordering! UPDATE: I tried eating here again on my last trip and I was very sick. I wouldn’t risk it when there are so many other gluten free options in the city.
The hardest thing about my diagnosis years ago, was that I was already a vegetarian. There are often gf options on menus for meat eaters, but few and far between for us veggies. At Native Foods, when I ask for a gf recommendation, I know I'm safe and they won't point to a section of meat on a menu! I wish they carried a gf bun, but I've had a gf "burger" here in a lettuce wrap and gf quinoa mac n cheese, with various veggie sides.
Be careful here. Things marked GF are not always GF. Baja tacos say GF on the menu but are made with an ingredient that has "trace" gluten. Also fries and other things are marked GF but are fried with everything else. Read the fine print.
For being a health foods place, they really did not have many gluten free options. Options are marked on the menu, mostly just a few salads without things on them. Staff wasn’t knowledgeable about what was and was not safe and there’s cross contamination.
Just got off the phone with management- they respectfully told me that because they use all shared equipment and do not have separate friers that they would not feel safe serving me a gluten-free meal. So basically don't go here you'd be wasting your time and risking your health.
As a restaurant, independent of GF options, their food is very good, especially considering it is all vegan. They do offer a GF menu, but they state clearly on their menus and in their restaurant that they do NOT use dedicated equipment for allergy purposes. So use caution when eating here.
By far my favorite place for GF food!!! The menu is clearly labeled, they can tell u exact allergy info for the dressings and sauce. All of their food is great tasting but I really like the Caribbean jerk kale salad with Tempeh (oh ... If u want meat this is not the place to go they have all imitation meat for vegetarians). All of the bowl entrees are good too! GF beer and 1 dessert item (a peanut butter parfait) Their lavender lemonade is OUT OF THIS WORLD AMAZING!!!
A dedicated vegan "fast food" restaurant. About 1/3 of the menu includes GF options. I have eaten here with meat eaters and vegans and everyone is always AMAZED at how good everything tastes! If you want fresh, made from scratch, healthy foods, at a reasonable price, then this is the place for you! I promise, you don't have to be vegan to enjoy this place!!!
Friendly staff and management. Risk of cross contamination, explained by the manager. I took a risk and got a salad. The Ensalada Azteca salad was good/okay. $9.95, and had a lot of romaine lettuce (filler). I was hungry, and the salad filled the void. I did not get sick at the two-three hour mark afterward, and so I am satisfied. At ordering desk, after explaining for about five minutes that I am very sensitive to gluten because I have Celiac Disease, reading over the menu, hearing there's no guarantee on the lack of cross contam, then ordering, I felt it was a real chore to eat there. The four stars was for the ok salad and the nervousness of eating there.
Just as a warning, this place cross contaminates in the kitchen and they will tell you if you have an intolerance or are a celiac that they recommend not to dine with them. Rather disappointing considering they market themselves and label their menu items as gluten free.
Love native foods! My fiancé and I have been here several times and always love the food. It's great for food allergy people like us, but I think it was kinda traumatic for my dad who usually isn't that healthy of an eater!
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked their food. I didn't know it was a vegan restaurant. I had the Bangkok bowl and it was delicious and satisfying without the meat. My husband had the portabella burger and that was good too. I could become vegetarian if I could cook like them.
Great food and healthy. Sweet potato fries are amazing. Salads are so yummy and always fresh. Sandwiches and wraps are so good. Soups are unbelievably good. Desserts too! Love this place. Wish there was one closer to my house, but it is a nice drive down the coast from Seal Beach.
Menu makes GF ordering easy. Food was great but took awhile to make (just keep this in mind if you're in a hurry) and on the expensive side, compared to the prices at the Chipotle next door. Watermelon juice is absolutely amazing!
