Unfortunately this place is NOT safe for celiacs. I have been here before and the food is delicious and did not get sick. But since it has been awhile, I called to place an order and asked questions to see if it was still safe. They do not have a dedicated fryer and coat all their food in the same sauce bin. I let them know that this means it is not gluten free, and she laughed at me. So unfortunately this place is not okay for celiac or severe intolerance. Very disappointing
This place is fantastic!! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food (gluten eaters and non gluten eaters) and I felt incredibly safe. Genuinely haven’t had Chinese food like this since my diagnosis almost 10 years ago. 100% recommend!
Amazing gluten free menu so much choice and soooooo tasty
The sesame chicken and general Tao’s chicken were fantastic! Definitely recommend!
I ordered over the phone and they gave me gluten free pad thai with gf stickers on it and even gf soy sauce. They did give me a fortune cookie which I actually appreciated so I could still get a fortune! It was a lot of food and I didn't get sick. However, it was some of the worst pad thai I have ever had. It was bright orange and just tasted weird from what I am used to. I added some of my own sauce and it was good but just not great thai in my opinion. I was happy that I felt safe eating it though!
We recently ordered carry out from here while visiting family in the area. My daughter has Celiac and loves Thai food - so the fact that they had a whole GF Thai section of the menu was awesome. All of our food was clearly marked with “Gluten Free” stickers - including little cups of GF soy sauce. My daughter thought the chicken in her pad Thai tasted undercooked, but I checked it (it was fine) and told her she is just used to most places over-cooking the meat! Both of us thought the Pad Thai was pretty good - very fresh and large portions, though it was not our favorite sauce (this had the pink-ish/orange-ish sauce, which tends to be a little more tangy and less sweet than other pad Thai sauces). I cannot comment on how safe the actual prep was since this was a carry out order, but neither my daughter nor I had any sort of a reaction.
This place is AMAZING. They have great Chinese food with a full gluten free menu. I have never gotten sick from them and I’m a sensitive celiac. One tiny complaint is that they always include the free fortune cookies which are NOT gluten free, so beware.
A treat for anyone gluten free. Large GF menu. Good prices and large portions. I got GF sesame chicken which was good but not quite as good as the old deep fried gluten version. Highly recommend. I’m celiac and there is a risk of CC but I did not get sick at all.
Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the gluten free options available, and everything came labeled as gluten free. I was given my own bottle of gluten free soy sauce as well.
I called to ask about celiac/allergy protocols and the owner told me that if I were really concerned I should learn how to cook my own meals. She said the only way to ensure I was taken care of was to dine inside the restaurant instead of ordering takeout. Due to COVID concerns I told her I wasn't comfortable doing that, and she thanked me and said goodbye. I will never be ordering from this restaurant.
I ordered off the GF menu and the food was delicious - but my chicken chop suey looked different from when I ate there before at lunch. The place was packed so I couldn’t find my waiter to ask if my entree was GF or different looking from the lunch menu.
I found out about 20 minutes later when I had to run to the bathroom. I am very disappointed. I love this restaurant so much and was really hoping my family and I could visit more frequently.
I was scared off when I first called thinking of ordering GF take out. When I started asking questions about GF dishes I did not receive answers that made me feel safe. Based on other reviews I decided to try New Star when I was able to sit down and eat. I had to ask several questions when I was ordering off the GF menu. There is not a dedicated fryer so therefore nothing fried is actually GF. The sushi rice has sushi rice vinegar in it already and is therefore not GF. The waiter was helpful in addressing my concerns and speaking to the chef to assure that everything was safe. I appreciated not getting sick but the food was lackluster at best, and is not my first choice for Asian fare.
Careful here, their "gluten free" fried food is fried in the same fryer that the non-gluten free food is cooked in. It is not gluten free. Maybe they changed, ask before ordering.
traditional Chinese restaurant. we have eaten here several times. Never any issues. one of the few places which has breaded chicken that is gluten-free. so the orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, at cetera are all gluten-free which is great. gluten free pad thai is also very good.
First time eating Chinese food (besides PF Changs) in a very very long time and New Star did not disappoint. I had the egg drop soup and orange chicken. It was so crunchy and good! It's been 2 hours since eating there and no glutenization or cross contamination symptoms. Can't wait to go back and try out the rest of the menu items!
Eating for the first, have eaten here before requesting items to be made GF and had no issues...! GF Chinese food, YAY!!!
