I have found Nuba to be pretty safe for me as a Celiac. They are always careful to avoid cross contamination if any and I haven’t had any reactions. A large chunk of the menu is gluten free naturally. Always be sure to notify the staff and they will let you know if anything isn’t safe to order. :)
Had an excellent time here! As soon as I mentioned I was celiac, the server reassured me that items marked on the menu would be safe and there would be no cross contamination, even with fried items. Many GF options on the menu, including vegetarian and vegan options! You can get cucumber or romaine hearts with the hummus instead of the bread. We tried a variety of dishes. We really enjoyed the pomegranate and sumac hummus, the halloumi skewers, the falafel, and the chicken shish tawook! No reaction and everything tasted great. Will be going back for sure!
Loved it! Had an amazing evening here with excellent service and great food. A few of us ordered mezze style, similar to tapas or small dishes, vegetarians and gluten free. The cheese skewer was delicious, also enjoyed the falafel and cauliflower. Our party also had chicken skewers and prawns, all enjoyed. Great wine and margaritas too. Friendly service was a special highlight.
Nuba was all-around fantastic. We got a last-minute reservation, showed up, and were promptly taken care of. Please order the dip sampler. Obviously the pita isn’t an option, but they bring cucumbers or lettuce.
We are still raving about the food. Best falafel of my life…and I’ve been to Israel 🫣 keep in mind they come out in tapas-style. Ask your server if you’re ordering too much! We left FULL.
I can't say enough great things about this restaurant! It has to be one of my favourite in the lower mainland. The quality of the food is fantastic and have never been sick from cross contamination here.
We ate dinner here a few nights ago - our first since our daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease. I noted this in our reservation and the super wait staff were fully aware when they came to greet us. The menu clearly notes what items are gluten free and our wait staff clearly explained how they use a separate fryer for those items. We enjoyed a very flavorful meal of hummus, with cucumber and romaine leaves in lieu of pita, crispy cauliflower, grilled halloumi on tomato and some of the best falafel I’ve ever tasted. All in all a great experience.
Knowledge staff and servers. The food was out of this world. Most of the entrees weren't labeled as GF, so it pushed us into a more middle eastern style of eating. The way to go is to order a bunch of mezze (middle eastern tapas) and enjoy the spread. No pita, but for a salad-nut the romaine leaves were perfect scooping and stuffing utensils.
Alright, so this is actually for their Broadway location. I've been to Nuba in the past, and have really enjoyed the food (DELICIOUS baba ganoush), but my last encounter was after my celiac diagnosis. I went in after reading many a positive review for being safe for gluten free individuals, ready to get my baba ganoush on. I explained in detail to the waitress the seriousness of the situation- no cross contamination, special preparations, etc. She gave me a very ditsy head bob, said it was fine, but that she didn't have a gluten free bread replacement except lettuce (unfortunately I cannot describe her vacant attitude appropriately here). I said that would do me just fine. The food arrives, and was tasty as always, but SURPRISE! Not only did I get very sick the next day, they charged me $4 for the lettuce. I'm alright paying extra for gluten free ingredients, but I could purchase two heads of lettuce for that price. Between getting sick, her bad attitude, and lack of transparency I wont be going back. I'll miss the ganoush though...
