August 2024: I returned and it was an awful experience. I felt sick after the first bite and the food itself was bland. My friend did it like hers either.
The food was delicious as were the cocktails. Beautiful dining area. Attentive staff.

We had a nice birthday dinner here and it did not disappoint! The service was outstanding and if you like fish, there was good variety to choose from. We had delicious shrimp and sushi for apps and fresh salmon and steak for dinner. Staff was very knowledgeable about allergies, both GF and DF, and took it very seriously, even bring out my own gf soy sauce dish for the sushi. We would highly recommend!

Oceans was recommended to me as a great spot for gluten free seafood and, unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. The menu itself offers various gluten free items including sushi, oysters, octopus, full fish servings (catch of the day), and specials. They also offer gluten free bread and desserts including a blueberry cheesecake (has oats), sorbet, and fresh fruit.
My first issue is that the taste and quality were not what was expected considering the prices. Admittedly, I assumed the grilled snapper would be bland as it only had salt and lemon juice to flavor it. However, in addition to the plate arriving lukewarm, I found at least one bone every other bite - which was annoying because we were told twice that it would be deboned prior and was “deboned” in front of us upon being served. Even the friend I was with, who ordered the halibut, found her dish to be unusually bland.
My second issue is that my sulphate intolerance was ultimately ignored. I understand that not every restaurant can fully accommodate this and so expect bland and very basic foods without sauces. However, upon explaining to our server that I could not have a wine sauce, they insisted that it was only a little and pushed for the sale of the special. So, while trained for those with gluten free needs, those with other allergens should be wary. Our server didn’t seem particularly willing to ask if the sauce could be omitted from the dish or to even figure out what dishes were heavy in sulphates.
Overall, this may have just been a one time experience but Manhattan has a wide variety of restaurants in the same price range offering tastier dishes with more knowledgeable and accommodating staff that I would recommend over Oceans.
