Felt weird after I ate my meal even after telling the server specific instructions on my food since I have a gluten and soy allergy. Got a salad to go explaining the same thing. Got home to find my salad covered in croutons and got a stomach ache again from eating my leftovers from dinner so I know he didn’t specify my allergy. Have eaten at other locations without problems. Just be careful at this location.
We have always been happy with the food from this Outback. My boys both have celiac and have never had a reaction after eating here. Sadly, the fries aren't cooked in a separate fryer, so they aren't safe, but there are several other side options. The thunder down under is delicious and gluten free. It makes my kids so happy to be able to order a regular dessert!
They had a decent sized GF menu, but I got a little tummy ache when I got home for the night so I suspect there wasn't a gluten dedicated cooking area used. I'm not celiac so for me it'll only be some light aches, but just a heads up about those who are sensitive.
Yum, yum! My non gf hubby is addicted to their gf thunder from down under dessert. I love their kabobs.
Ordered from the GF menu, salmon and baked potato with all toppings. Tested with my Nima and came back gluten found. Talked with Mgr and owner, explained that it could just be cc from spatula or shared cooking surface; they re-made dish with the salmon on foil and it tested all clear, GF! Great service and care! So appreciative that they genuinely worked to correct this and likely will employ this in future.
Ordered a Aussie Cobb Salad from the gluten free menu and expressed my need for gluten free. Our food was delivered by the manager and my salad had croutons on it. I don’t send food back so I didn’t eat while my family was able to enjoy their food. My husband wanted to leave but I insisted on letting them eat since we waited over an hour (Saturday night) and the kids were hungry and their food was fine. The manager did offer to make a new salad and told me he would make sure it was ok for me to eat but I am a one strike and it’s out.
Gf menu. Knowledgeable waitress.
Informed the waitress I was celiac and have gluten, peanut and soy allergies. She wrote it down and told the chef as well as checked all spices and sauce. Also was given a GF menu. I had grilled chicken, baked potato and vegetable. Was very good and had no issues. Will definitely return!
Went today for lunch - requested gluten free menu, no issues. Waiter asked if I wanted bread brought to the table since I was gluten intolerant. I said yes - my family members are bread lovers 🤪. Food was good.
Look, it's an Outback. It's food is consistent with every other Outback you've ever been to in your life. The waitstaff is always very kind. The sweet potato is baked (boiled?) so much that it's watery, but maybe that's your thing! I eat it and enjoy it well enough. Their BBQ sauce is a 3 out of 5 if that matters to you lol
My daughter ordered the Alice springs chicken off the gf menu and specified that she needed it prepared gf for celiac. She ordered mashed potatoes for her side. When the waiter brought it out the side was fries. We told him that if the fries were gf, it was ok as she would actually prefer fries. He said yes, the fries are gf and he had specified it to the kitchen. He had also told us he had worked there for a long time. My daughter had already eaten two fries when he came back to the table and told her not to eat them, he needed to check on it. He came back out and grabbed her plate and said he was wrong, they are not gf.
While I felt okay eating there were things not great about this location. First, parking was difficult. Small lot. 7 spaces dedicated to take away. My salad had very little dressing. I had the pork chop and baked sweet potato which were good. Not the best Outback... not the worst either.
My extra sensitive daughter has had a great experience here both times. It is unnerving when the server doesn’t seem knowledgeable, but I could tell the last time that consult happened with the kitchen staff when she wasn’t sure. Good GF menu with several options.
Our 9yo daughter is celiac and has been sickened at a different Outback location. She chose to eat at this Outback in Chico for her birthday dinner. Armed with our Nima we took her. The wait staff was knowledgeable and sent a manager to speak with us as well. We tested her steak and potatoes with the Nima and no gluten was found. She enjoyed her dinner and went home happy and healthy!
Ordered the Alice Springs chicken as I had read that was a tried and true option. Ordered without bacon, came with bacon but was remade. Broccoli on the side. Thunder from down under dessert. All tasted great and no reaction.
Food was fine and they seemed to understand when I mentioned celiac. However, I don’t usually have really clear cut indicators when I get “glutened” so I can’t say for sure but I think I got glutened here. Went a few days ago and have just felt crappy since then. Eat at your own risk,
I didn’t get sick, but had to send the steak back. The first time, it came out with butter and seasoning which are not GF. The second time it was cooked perfectly. Pay close attention if you order a steak.
Ordered a caesar salad after disclosing allergy and it came with croutons. Mistakes happen so we sent it back. Salad comes and we notice some crumbs. Ask the server if this is a new salad or if they just removed the croutons. They were told by kitchen staff it was a new salad. Turn over lettuce---sure enough there is still a crouton in the salad. A final salad is brought out without croutons, but all trust is gone. I've been to outbacks that are okay but this one really doesn't know what it is doing.
Never had a problem ordering or obtaining gluten free, and never sick so fairly confident I've not been glutened here. Updated 2019 to reduce to 3 stars. Brought salad with croutons and sandwich with bun last, said vanilla ice cream has gluten now. New wait staff not knowledgable or not paying attention. Haven’t ingested gluten but it’s been much more stressful here the last few visits.
I loved Outback before I was diagnosed, but I’ve been back twice since I was diagnosed and I’ve been glutened both times. The first time I found a piece of angel hair pasta in my salad, and the second time, I found a crouton in my salad. The waiters always seem to be knowledgeable, and the steaks seem to be okay, but I’m not entirely sure if I trust the restaurant anymore.
I normally have good luck with the GF menu. But last two times I’ve eaten at outback I have gotten really sick. 1) was the mashed potatoes on gf menu 2) was chicken
They have a separate gluten free menu to order from so be sure to ask for one. I normally order their Ribeye, baked potato and broccoli which have been delicious. I’ve also had their lobster tails, asparagus, side salad with no croutons, and twice mashed potato as well. I love their gluten free brownie/ice cream dessert!!! Overall, I love this place, their food and service has been excellent.
