We popped in here after hearing about the unique pizza toppings with the islands character that had GF options!
One of our party is Coeliac so we were pleased to hear that they could do most of the pizzas on a GF base and had GF pasta available if we wanted pasta. Could not see any GF desserts starters or sides (but tbh after the pizza you won't need anything else)
We could see the kitchen from where we were sat and everything was wiped down so cross contamination was minimal (didn't see if they were cooked in a separate oven but our Coeliac wasn't ill afterwards so presume appropriate measures were taken)
Certainly not one to miss when you are on the island! Very lovely, welcoming place to eat with brilliant staff!
Offers GF based for all pizzas, and GF pasta. Be wary of pizzas with haggis or black pudding since these are not known to be GF very often. No puddings and I did not ask about sides or friers.
Was a little worried since I have bad experiences with pizza but informed the waitress of a “severe gluten allergy” because in my experience they’re more likely to take allergies seriously than coeliac. And also requested she tell the chef that normal flour cannot be used anywhere near my pizza base. She was understanding and said she would do that. I ordered a margarita pizza on a GF base which cost £1.95 extra.
Ate my meal and it was really nice by pizza standards, lovely cheese and basil, and a beautiful view outside the restaurant. I have had no reactions from contamination 30 minutes after leaving - normally I feel contamination reactions 10 minutes after eating, so this is a great result. I would urge severe reaction coeliacs to stress their condition to pizza restaurants and ask that the waiter speak to the head chef or request to speak to the head chef yourself.
Wouldn't recommend, which is a shame. Have eaten here a couple of times, first time head chef was on duty and really good and clued up on gf food. Felt safe and enjoyed a wonderful pizza! Second couple of times head chef wasn't in, different waitress who was clueless about gf, cross contamination etc. Wasn't confident but tucked in....mistake I was really really ill. Went to pay and took a look past till whilst waiting at meal prep of another gf pizza. The girl was making it on a floured surface with non gf pizza and not using seperate trays etc 😰 Absolutely ridiculous that only one chef knows how to deal with allergies when they advertise gf options on the menu.
