I got extremely sick eating GF pasta here last night. I told them it was an allergy and asked them to use clean water and utensils for the pasta, and they said they would do this. But I had a bad feeling when I saw the kitchen. It was very busy and the kitchen is tiny. I saw the guy stirring a pot of pasta in the back and I didn’t see much space to do separate pasta for GF noodles.
3 hours after dinner, I was at a concert at Bimbo’s and felt nauseous. I started vomiting and we had to hurry up and get me home. I nearly had an accident in the car. I never would’ve eaten at this place if the reviews on this app weren’t so good, so I’m not sure if I just came on a bad night. But I would never come here again and definitely do not recommend this place for celiacs.
Update 12/10/25: the owner called us and apologized, and said they have not had someone contact them about getting sick from gluten in 10 years. They have strict protocols in the kitchen for gluten free orders. My issue must’ve been a one-off. I still will probably not eat here again, but he said he was going to talk to the staff to re-iterate the training.
We were pleasantly surprised here, all pizzas could be made glutenfree! On top of that they actually had glutenfree spaghetti!! My daughter had the glutenfree spaghetti carbonara and I had the glutenfree tuna pizza. My son and husband had regular pizzas. All tasted great, friendly and fast service, really enjoyed it! We were told the glutenfree pizzas go in a separate oven and spaghetti is prepared separately.
The restaurant was packed when we arrived, but we were able to be seated quickly. The owner/manager and staff were very welcoming and quick on their feet.
There were GF pasta and pizza options available and I sampled both. They were great! Would definitely recommend and will visit when back in the bay.
My celiac son had the GF fettuccine Alfredo. The rest of us had regular pasta dishes. Everything was absolutely delicious and my son did not get sick. Wonderful Italian people running the restaurant. I highly recommend! Update: we got GF pizza the next night and he was glutened. Stick to the pasta! He did not get sick from pasta.
I’ve had a great pizza for takeout tonight. The gluten-free crust was delicious. The staff is very attentive and informed me that the pizza was baked in the same oven as regular ones.
All pizzas and pasta dishes can be made gluten-free.
Extra bonus: No additional price for gf options.
I could not have been happier with my meal at piccolo forno! Gluten free options included spaghetti, fettuccine, and pene pasta, as well as any of the pizzas. I ordered the carbonara and my friend ordered the fettuccine alfredo. I haven't had fettuccine alfredo in so long and the first bite almost made me cry. Every dish I tried here was absolutely heavenly. Our server seemed to be at least a part owner, and he was absolutely perfect, not only charming but KNOWLEDGEABLE and ATTENTIVE. When he brought out every one's dishes he explained that the kitchen had accidentally made my carbonara sauce with glutenated pasta water, and that they were remaking it. He brought me a free salad while I waited (I didn't know that ceaser salad could taste so good). I would much rather have the mistake be caught than to be unknowingly glutenated. My carbonara was very rich and made with high quality ingredients. I also had some of the affagado and the pannacotta, which were orgasmically almost religiously good.
I LOVED this place! Once upon a pre-gf time, fettuccine alfredo was one of my favorite simple pasta meals - most places the sauce has gluten. Not so here - it was beyond delicious! The pasta noodles are perfect, the staff even brought out the box so I could take a picture and let me know I could order it from Amazon, it’s an Italian brand. (Le Veneziane if you’re in the market!) The staff was warm and friendly, knowledgeable, and the experience was everything I could have asked for. They made sure to let me know that the pizzas can be made with a gf crust, but are cooked in the same oven, so depending on your sensitivity you may want to go for the totally separately-prepared pasta. Honestly, go for the pasta anyway - you won’t regret it!
Super delicious pasta! I asked our server what they had for gluten free options and they said they had 4 different types of gluten free pasta. I got the linguine and meat sauce (it wasn't linguine it was something else on the menu, but they said linguine was the closest gluten free option they had). It was delicious! Best meal I had in San Francisco. I'm pretty sure the pasta was homemade (or they need to tell me what pasta they are buying). They also had pizza but I didn't get that. 10/10 I need this every day
So many gf pasta and pizza options! I had the beef ragu w gluten free fettuccine. I was so happy to hear they had 3 different types of gf pasta (not just penne!) and my dish was delicious. It’s not often I get so many choices. There are normal pasta options as well for your non celiac friends.
The ENTIRE MENU was available gluten free. No hassle and NO UPCHARGE for GF pasta. I had the Spaghetti with clams and it was perfection. Nice service, very low key and excellent with kids. No kids menu but easy to split a pizza (also available GF). Highly recommend.
5 different types of pastas and great GF sauces to go with.
