We ate there for a late lunch a little over a month ago. Definitely don’t expect them to do gluten free during peak hours- They want to be safe and do it right, and simply can’t during busy times. They were very knowledgeable and accommodating when there wasn’t a big line. And the food was super yummy!
We love Pickles Deli!! Almost everything on their menu can be made gluten-free. It is such a treat to have this restaurant close to our home. We love it! My favorite thing is to take their sandwiches and turn them into lettuce wraps. They do a great job and their lettuce wraps are huge! They also have kombucha on tap which is a nice treat for those of us wanting to do more for our gut health! I can’t say enough good things about Pickles.
I ordered the Whidbey Club on gluten free bread. I was a bit skeptical when I saw the bread, it’s very thin, but holy cow! The sandwich was delicious. One of the best club sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. I’m definitely coming here again!
When I informed them that I was celiac they clearly understood what that meant. They were happy to get clean gloves, knives and chopping boards. Very accommodating for gluten free folks. But, they don’t offer gluten free service during their busy periods (typical lunch time).
Very nice gluten free sandwich. They use Boar’s heads meats (apart from the chicken breast which they make themselves). Very large sandwich and definitely tasty. I just needed to put some more sauce on my sandwich as it was a bit dry.
I told the cashier I had celiacs and he said, without prompting/me asking any questions, that they would use a clean cutting board and knife and change their gloves. I ordered the turkey and bacon sandwich that automatically comes heated, and they caught that and told me the toaster wasn’t celiac safe (I appreciate that!) so I had it cold instead. I inquired about the comment below (about them not serving celiacs from 11-3) and they said that time frame they’re super busy so it’s not safe for celiacs because they want to ensure it’s safe for us and do all that they can to prevent cross contamination. They have gf bread and all the ingredients are delicious! They also have gf marshmallow treats. I uploaded their menu and my sandwich to the photos. I was excited to see that Pickles has Essential Baking Company multi grain bread and hot dog buns. I told the girl taking my order that my son has celiac disease and then asked if they spread the mayonnaise with a knife or squirt from a bottle? The cashier said they could serve his sandwich from a fresh batch of mayo and that they would make his sandwich in a separate section with clean gloves. She was very sweet and helpful. When she turned around, I saw her boss chewing her out. I then told her that if the mayo accommodation was too much, he could eat the sandwich dry. She informed me that they do not serve people with celiac disease between the hours of 10am and 3 pm, but they would make an exception this time. Kind of felt discriminatory and weird. Not sure I'd go back, at least not for lunch. Celiac friendly? Kind of.
Wonderful food. Boar's Head meats and cheeses. Gluten free bread available for sandwiches. Great, knowledgable staff. Yummy!
