I saw no cross contamination when I watched them make my gf pizza. Changed gloves, different spoons and spatulas, different side of the oven for gf, separate cutting board slicing stations for gf. Quick and yummy gluten free ZA!
best gf pizza in the area for the lowest price!! good size too.
Going here is being "wild" in my book. Tastes good, and they switch gloves when you say gluten free then they use the same ladle for sauce to put sauce on your pizza that spreads sauce that touched gluten.
What an incredible place to eat. I am not a celiac, but I do not consume gluten. They are so careful with gulten free foods, it is amazing. Nobody should worry when coming here, it is incredible.
Love this place. only one problem. While they use a different spreader for sauce they use the same sauce and scoop they use with non - gf pizzas creating a cross contamination possibility.
EXCELLENT! Menu easy to follow to quickly pick out a Pizza Pie. GF pizza was excellent. The ingredients were fresh. The wait time was minimal. Quick service. Employees friendly and knowledgeable about what was GF in pizzas and salads. Definitely changed out gloves and dough was pre wrapped and it appeared that the pizza pans were different for GF. Restaurant was kept very clean - tables, floors, around the fountain bar. Bathroom was very clean. Love the sink, automatic soap, water and a dryer all in one. I want one of these. Keep up the great service, great food, great restaurant!
Fabulous experience! My GF daughter was thrilled at the choices and I was thrilled with the immediacy of glove/utensil changing. I appreciate the care that was taken in keeping the GF separate. And it was delicious!! The only part that we didn't like is that we are from St. Louis and we don't have a Pie Five. :( Again, a wonderful experience. Will be back every time we visit KC area!
Great gluten free pizza!!! I have dined here half a dozen times and have never felt ill!! As soon as they here the words 'I have a gluten allergy' they change their gloves and even open fresh ingredient containers!!!
I was really impressed when I watched the staff change their gloves and utensils when preparing my pizza (which was delicious)! They even put my pizza in a to-go box rather than a plate to minimize the chances of cross contamination. Overall I was really happy and will definitely go back!
The staff was incredibly knowledgable, and took very appropriate measures to ensure no cross contamination. When the employee took the pizza off at the end of cooking, he accidentally placed the pizza near the common cutting area, and he was immediately corrected by his supervisor...not only did they remake the pizza (without asking!!) but then gave us the pizza for free! Very good gf crust...delicious! We will definitely be going back.
Their pizza is delicious! Love the fact that you can see them change their gloves before preparing your food.
Absolutely the most delicious gluten free pizza crust available. It reminds me of honey wheat, but gluten free. Apparently it's proprietary. They make it themselves in a separate environment. The staff is knowledgeable about ingredients and they washed their hands and changed their gloves prior to making my pizza. They followed a good protocol for ensuring that my pizza was not cross contaminated during the cooking and cutting processes. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars is because they did not put my pizza on paper or take any precautions as it was sliding down the prep bar. However, I did not get sick and it was a delicious pizza.
I give these guys a 2 for having such a great option. But youre probably thinking wait why give a 2...well after i saw the way they put my "gf" crusted pizza on top of a cutting tray with all kinds of gluten from the previous pizza on it, they get a 2. I probably wont go back. This was definitely not celiac friendly. It looked great at first...especially when i asked for a gluten free crust, the lady behind he counter said, "choice or allergy?" I was like..."awesome." But then the above happened.
Usually a good place to go and sate my need for pizza. Lately it has been a nightmare. I had to stop the worker from opening my GF crust with gloves she had been wearing and ask her to change gloves which is something they usually automatically do when you tell them GF.
I don't have full Celiac to my knowledge but wheat messes with me without a doubt. Gluten free crust was some of the best I've had anywhere. Staff even called after my online order to let me know the sauce I selected was not gluten free and provided other options.
If you're looking for a break from the average thin crust, their GF pizza crust is amazing! Staff was very knowledgeable. They used new gloves and even stopped me as I was ordering to inform me that their Alfredo sauce had gluten in it. They packaged my pizza in a different style of box so that it would not come into contact with any of the other pizzas. I was impressed and will definitely be going back!
My original review was after I ate here for the first time and it was 5 stars. I am now updating my review because I have gotten sick here a few times. I kept going back because I wouldn't get sick every time so I thought maybe it was something else. I will not being going back, even though their gf pizza is delicious.
I would not return here. Staff was not knowledgable at my visit. The website does a far superior job of letting customers know, but a flippant lack of staff knowledge at a place where nothing was marked on-site except the gf crust made for a very unpleasant experience.
Did not eat the pizza as they were not very careful at all about cross contamination. They took my pizza down the same line as the other ones (flour and dough everywhere). It was on a little pan but it didn't do much to prevent it from touching the line. They also got ingredients out of the same bins as they do when making regular pizzas, so that's definitely not safe.
By the time my pizza was made I knew there was no way I could possibly eat it. If you aren't very sensitive, go for it I guess. But they didn't change gloves, placed the bare crust on the counter where the other pizzas are made, and used the same utensils to spread the sauces as with any other pizza, and cooked it on a mesh. Absolute worst experience I've ever had.
We had heard good reviews about Pie Five's gluten awareness. We were not disappointed. My son ordered the GF crust an immediately the gloves came off. The server knew exactly which ingredients had gluten and did not. He enjoyed his pizza and we all were happy!!!
I generally like this place. The crust isn't my favorite, but I'm always happy for another GF place. I once went here with someone with celiac, (I myself have an intolerance) who got glutened. The workers used the same ladle to spread sauce for GF and non-GF. Afterwards, I went here about 3 months later and they had fixed the problem! Great service definitely worth your time!
This is always my "go to" place. One of the best pizza place I've ever had; their Buffalo chicken is to die for. I have never gotten sick and they're always careful about changing gloves and being cautious. My only complaint is that Oregon needs to have Pie Fives!!
Even if you get a gluten free crust they spread the sauce with the same spoon and out of the same container of sauce they use on the wheat crust. So the pizza is not a good choice for celiac. Maybe if you asked them to use a new batch of sauce it would be okay.
We are here from out of town and excited to eat pizza from a new place. Went in when they were not busy and asked if they could get the toppings from the back, she said no all of their toppings are gf. When I asked if the ladle for the sauce touched the crust when they put it on pizzas and she said yes but still wouldn't go to the back and get some that wasn't cc'd. We told her I would get sick if I ate that and she said sorry this is our sauce so we left.
Went here because of the other great review but did not end up eating anything from here because everything was contaminated with gluten. While making glutinous pizza, the employees touched the dough with their gloves and then reached their hands into all of the toppings to put onto the pizza. When they added sauce they used the sauce spoon to spread the sauce all over the pizza and then put it back into the sauce. They did this with several pizzas, never changing gloves. They also used the same contaminated gloves to touch all of the other kitchen equipment, like the oven and knives, and to work the cash register. There is no way that anything in that place is not contaminated. If you have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity do not eat here! I can't speak to how the food tasted as I was not willing to poison myself, but it seemed like a popular place for gluten eaters.
I ordered the GF crust (which has a $2.00 upcharge) and was pleasantly surprised when the preparer immediately changed his gloves and got a new ladle for the sauce and a different pan. Unfortunately, they still use the same container of sauce as the gluten pizzas. He prepared my pizzas (similar setup to Subway or Blaze) and then went on to prepare my date's pizza. He then asked of we wanted salad. I ordered the Greek side but before I could say anything I realized he had not changed gloves to prepare my date's pizza before handling the salad. We took ours to go and in the car, my date said he was surprised I didn't say anything about the pizza cutter being used. At that point, I just prayed I would be OK. I actually felt fine and I'm very sensitive to gluten. As for taste, I thought the pizza was very good but light on the toppings and the Greek salad dressing was excellent.
My new favorite pizza place. I risked pie five after a coworker with celiac had a good experience here. The crust is made off site. They have dedicated utensils with red handles. The GF pizza does go in the same oven with regular pizzas but it is on a metal tray. Potential for CC too with cheese and toppings since gloved hands touching these items all day. The pizza is big for one person. The crust was most similar to mellow mushrooms with an earthy crust. I will definitely be returning!
When I went there, they brought out the crust and then started using the same utensils as they use on the regular crusts. The spoon that touches the regular crust while spreading the sauce would also touch the GF crust. Even if they grabbed a new spoon, the sauce is entirely contaminated. What I saw was far away from being Celia friendly.
Hi! Gogo here! I am a severe celiac and have never gotten sick here. Separate utensils and no cross contamination has happened while I have been here. Smart staff! Cool atmosphere. Do not eat the magic dust as it has gluten as a staff member told me and my party. Awesome place to grab some food in the area! Hope this was an informative review!
The pizza was delicious, but I did get slightly sick from some cross contamination. That being said I am a "can't eat a fun size crunch bar because the rice has malt flavoring" level of sensitivity, so those who are more tolerant will probably be just fine. The pizza WAS good enough that I'm considering going back and giving them a second chance.
