Portland Pie Company

Wicked GF’s greater Portland dining guide said Portland Pie Co had a dedicated prep & oven space for GF allergy orders, but their Scarborough location does not. I was apprehensive, but the promise of my first calzone since diagnosis won out. They do use a dedicated foil for GF orders which is kept in a sealed bag and they added aluminum foil “walls” up around the edges of my calzone for further protection. It does go in the same oven with allll the gluten items. For me, it was worth the risk and absolutely delicious. I still felt well afterwards, so no cross contamination. It was a slow weekday and I think the lower demand increased my chances of a safe meal. If it had been packed, I’m not sure they would have had or taken the time to be so careful with my order. Our server was also very considerate and great at following up.

Ordered a gluten free pizza, gave me a large regular. Didn’t realize until 2 slices in because I was so hungry. Called to confirm and they said yea it wasn’t gluten free. Nice

I ordered the gf pizza crust, vegan cheese, spinach and olive pizza. Ate half one day and half the next. I ended up with a stomach ache both days. Obviously not seriously glutened, but it makes me wonder if they weren’t careful with cross contamination. I was bummed as I’ve been looking for a good gluten free pizza option in that area. Otto’s is great in the Cheverus area.

Best GF pizza around. Always careful with our order and even a desert option.

pizza is good. Their cheese blend has wheat in it. Get the fresh mozzarella option instead.

excellent gf pizza!!!! isn't frozen crust like most places, and if it is it certainly doesn't taste like it. the staff is very nice and there us very good service!!

The gluten free crust was awesome, and the staff was very knowledgable. Definitely a great option when I want pizza and am in the Portland are!

They make their own gluten free dough for pizzas and everything that goes into their ovens has its own tray.

Ordered a gluten free basil crust. It was NOT gluten free but instead the regular dough. Was told “oops, sorry.” Was sick within 2 hours. Not worth the risk.

I looooove their gluten free dough! Hannaford sells it as well! And they offer yummy vegan cheese that is actually melty😍

Called to ask all the right questions (can items on the gf menu be prepared safely for a celiac). Was told there is a separate prep space and separate oven. Arrived and was told by a different server who also works in the kitchen that there is not a separate prep space and no separate oven. She said the kitchen staff would be careful but that cross contact could happen. We left without ordering. Really frustrating to be told a completely different story on the phone.
