My whole family is gluten free and the manager took great care of us. She asked all the allergies and made sure all of our meals were made correctly. I am VERY sensative and did not have a reaction. Very pleased!
I called and made reservations and when I did I asked the person about their GF options. She told me that their chefs were very good at working with their customers in preparing food that meets their needs. I let the waiter know of my needs and the chef came out and talked with me about my choices. I ended up have the Bolivian Talapia & Shrimp with red quinoa...it was VERY tasty! I normally do not immediately write reviews until several days pass, because my symptoms don't appear for 48-72 hours after a meal. I had no reaction to what I ate, and would definitely go back again. I sat next to the gorillas, who put on a show throughout the meal. The atmosphere here is delightful, something the younger ones will enjoy!
They have one "Allergy friendly" item on their menu, and many others can be adapted, especially for gf. The manager comes out to confirm all allergies, and brings the dish out personally. They adapted one of their recipes for me and it was delicious, no reaction either. Service was a bit slow, but five stars for the dish I had.
Just ate there. Did not get sick. I did have the baked fries and a burger in a lettuce wrap.
They do not have a dedicated gluten free menu but When we got to the the restaurant a chef came to the table to tell us our options. I thought It was going to work out great because they were going to prepare everything special even to make the fries baked. But after eating less than half the meal I could tell something was wrong and I got severely sick. The manager apologize greatly and said this is never happened before. But i know i will never risk it again.
I used to work here for years and I can tell you this is not a safe restaurant for Celiacs. There us no dedicated GF fryer, no matter what they tell you. They may make you think they take it seriously by sending a chef to your table, but as someone who has seen it actually prepared, there will be cross contamination out the wazoo. I have seen bread touch a plate and be pulled off, and still served. Re-used pans. And on a busy day, they are definitely not wiping down a prep space for GF tickets.
The manager came the table to ensure the order was done correctly . If you go look at the menu and decide what you want l, then tell the manager what you exactly want on your plate. Like I ordered the Journey combo. I asked for grilled chicken, lettuce and avacado. No bread... The chef came out to insured the quality of his skills. That was wonderful
Several gf options on the kids menu, including pasta, rotisserie chicken and grilled chicken.
Loved the food. Waiter was knowledgeable and personable. I usually never go out to eat because I think it’s playing Russian Roulette at most place but I have eaten here 3 times and each time it was excellent and I did not get sick.
A similar situation to the T-Rex restaurant. The chef will come out and tell you everything that’s safe and what can be modified. They have a GF fryer and GF buns for sandwiches. Just remember to order your fries without seasoning, as the seasoning isn’t safe.
We were looking for gluten-free on the Riverwalk and vegetarian and found the gluten freeo Anaconda pasta at rain Forest Cafe. The food was surprisingly good and even had vegetables in it would seem to be difficult to find in Texas. Those who are seriously gluten-free beware, they serve a slice of focaccia bread with this allergy friendly meal.
I had a conference down the street and ate here for lunch 3 days in a row and didn't get sick. Each time the chefs came out and discussed my allergies and their procedure for avoiding cross-contamination (changing gloves, clean utensils, etc.) management also came by and oversaw that my food was prepared properly. Felt very safe eating here.
I can’t begin to explain how awesome our experience was. We requested a GF menu and they sent the chef out who walked us through our options. He was wonderful. Has a dedicated fryer. He has 9 fryers. Onion rings not an option here but they were on menu for my burger and he told us he would remove them. Great atmosphere for kids.
They have a small gluten free menu (buns & pasta) but it’s delicious. Waiter advised us even though they have a dedicated frier it is not recommended for celiacs since the baskets are not dedicated to a certain frier. He recommended the fruit or veggies as a side instead of fries. He double checked with the chef about the pasta & reconfirmed it’s safe for celiacs before ordering. He also brought out her pasta separately to avoid any cross contamination. Food was good & safe for my little celiac.
The chef that came out was really grumpy and I ended up asking the waitress (who was awesome) to double check the allergen status with the chef. I got a Cesar salad with Shrimp (no croutons). Felt fine after lunch! They do NOT have a dedicated fryer. Overall experience was so so, but I didn't get sick, so that counts for something.
Very few options for gf kids. Server was not very knowledgeable, but was aware that special care needed to be taken. Food was mediocre at best. Kid options gf Mac and cheese, and grilled chicken. Their dedicated fryer had "accidentally" been used for other non-gf items, and therefore no fries... At least they told us before they served them to our girls. Sides included kettle chips and fruit. Bottom line: you can eat here gf...as a last resort for kids. More options for adults. Ask many questions.
My sons both have severe food allergies, and one is a celiac. The manager came out and wrote down all request, discussed menu options, and food prep. It was amazing! We never get to eat out, and they made it completely possible! Totally made my boys’ night!
Excellent service and food options. Inform your waiter that you have a food allergy and the chef will come out to your table to take your order. They can make pretty much everything gluten free (gf pasta and buns). They will cook your food completely separately and bring it out away from the other food!!!
Had a very positive experience! When I asked the waiter about gluten free options he went and got the chef. The particular entree I was interested in was not gluten free, but he assured me he could make it gluten free. Very good meal, great service, plus gluten free dessert!
Not worth it. The Nima tester showed Gluten Found (or the wheat symbol). The chef came out and argued with us about it being gluten free, trying to blame it on the food being sent back for the cheese, that wasn’t disclosed anywhere on the menu. (When we ordered our food directly from the chef) Oh and “steamed vegetables” means cheese covered steamed vegetables. Fries are also “dusted” with flour. Nothing is marked on the menu as gluten free so all you can go on is what the chef says and when he’s not thorough in his communications, that’s a lot of faith in one person. Especially someone who has no empathy for what it’s like to have to be celiac in a wheat-based world.
So impressed! As soon as I told the server my 5 Year old has Celiac disease, she said "oh, let me go get the chef right away" he came out and said "what is she in the mood for?" I can make almost anything completely GF for her. I asked tons of questions, and he was extremely knowledgeable about GF food prep. She loved her chicken and veggie stir fry over GF pasta and felt perfect afterwards.
I told them I had a gluten and dairy allergy and the chef came out and talked to me and took my order and I ended up getting pasta. I ate a few bites and found what was clearly not a gluten free noodle mixed in with my food. I told them and they remade it quickly but it was undercooked after that. I was not charged for the food but I was very dissatisfied and feel uncomfortable ordering anything from there again. I do not feel confident rating them safe for Celiac as that is clearly not safe, but I gave them 3 stars instead if none because I do feel like this was odd circumstance that does not happen very often and would usually be a good option.
I’m not sure why they don’t have a gluten free menu. Their staff and cooks are VERY knowledgeable about the allergy. When I told my server I needed to gluten free he told me the chef would be out to speak to me. 2 minutes later he was and instead of tell me just what I could have, he asked “ What are you in the mood for?” He made everything I wanted gluten free even down to the fries which he baked in the oven so I wouldn’t get cross contamination! Also, the rainforest burger was the best burger I have had!
I have celiacs and multiple allergies to the point where I almost never eat out. The head chef came out (chef Ortiz) and looked at my allergy list that I brought and discussed with me what he could make. He created the most delicious meal I have had at a restaurant! I didn't get sick and it was such a relief to be able to enjoy a meal with family on vacation!
The manager came out and talked to me about my gluten restrictions. She promised they could make sure my food would be safe and prepared separately by the chef himself. It came out wrong 3 times and our whole party of 13 ate while I sat. Would have not been so bad had they not made so many promises. Be very careful. Even when they make it in a separate "yellow allergy ticket". They flopped on this visit!
My family went based on reviews, and despite there only being 2 items indicated as "allergy -sensitive". Big mistake! We were optimistic as the hostess said she'd have the chef talk with us personally (great! right? wrong...). The "chef" tells us we can have a gf pasta or gf sandwich bread. I ask, what about other ingredients? sauce? meats? spices? He shrugs and says marinara and pesto "should be ok". My 13yo celiac daughter was willing to take the risk, and fortunately did not get sick. But the lack of options, knowledge and consideration was beyond infuriating. And the total bill was outrageous. $75 for 2 dinners, a kids dinner and 4 drinks. We'll never visit any location again.
Update. Went back a second time today and even after speaking with the manager, and confirming twice, they served my 5 year old regular pasta. 2.5 hours later my daughter was bent over in pain throwing up with a stomach ache. I called to speak with a manager who confirmed she was served the wrong noodles (spiral are not gf). This place makes an effort, but failed majorly today. Old Review: Amazing! Let them know about your celiac, and the manager comes to the table to explain the many options that are not even on the menu. Great for my daughter and I! They even promised no cross contamination.
I wasn't expecting much, but the food was pretty good. My five star rating, though, is based on the service. I told my waiter I had Celiac and he said he'd bring the chef right out. Chef came out and told me to ignore the GF menu and instead tell him what was on the normal menu that looked good to me and he'd tell me how he'd adjust to make it GF. Totally went above and beyond to hook me up. Highly recommend.
I came here after reading all of the reviews about how well they handled celiac customers. A manager did come to my table to talk to me about how food was prepared and to help me order safely. He also said they had a dedicated fryer for French fries. My meal came out on a GF bun and it was delicious. However, my Nima sensor found gluten when I tested the French fries. Such a disappointment! Good thing I didn't eat them before the test result popped up. The manager apologized and our server even came over to ask if I was feeling ok. That was a first! Anyway, eat here, but with caution.
They don't have a GF menu, but the hostess told me to talk to the server. They have GF rolls for sandwiches and burgers and GF pasta. Really fun atmosphere for the kids, food was really good and nice to have a place to eat on vacation that everyone enjoyed and was safe for me.
It says on the menu to make server aware of any food allergies before ordering. The manager then came out, and was actually excited to go through the menu and options there were with me! They have a dedicated fryer for fries. She gave me some time to decide and then came back and said she had to be the one to take my order, so she did on special pink paper and delivered it to the kitchen, then delivered the food to me and kept checking on me. All the while the restaurant was really busy! Great experience, didn't feel like a burden at all. Good fries and bunless burger.
I was completely impressed by the level of service here. The moment I told our waitress I had a gluten allergy she sent the chef to our table. The chef walked through the menu on everything that he was able to make safe which was 75% of the menu. He took my order on a red allergy card. The same chef brought out my dinner and assured me, he was the only one who prepared my dish to keep it from cross contamination.
