I ordered a burger with a gluten free bun and specified I had an allergy to gluten. When I received the food and consumed it not more than 5 minutes went by and I got sick. I was vomiting and in immense pain. The bun was not gluten free and caused me two days of sickness. I will never eat here again. Please please be cautious. Some people don’t realize how serious a gluten allergy is. I also paid an extra 3 dollars for this bun bringing this regular burger to $20.00. I paid 20 dollars to be sick for two days.
I was surprised when someone recommended Red Robin as a celiac friendly restaurant, but decided to give it a try. Their staff seemed knowledgeable about their food safety precautions and had the manager oversee the process. Have eaten there several times without getting sick.
Still need to be careful about what surfaces you touch on the way in and out, and there are contamination risks, but overall have had a safe experience and a sense that the staff knew how to handle the food with care. Gluten free substitute options have been very good as well. Certainly nothing that takes way from the experience at all.
Only downside is ordering requires comparing the physical menu to the online allergen menu, though the allergen menu is at least interactive and has “swap out” options for ingredients that need to be replaced.
2024 edit: have now eaten here probably around 15 times and have only once had what seemed like a clear gluten reaction, which I consider to be a pretty great record for an environment with so many gluten-containing foods eaten by hand. Easily could have been some other surface or something and not the food that caused the reaction. They seem consistently knowledgeable and careful. And the online allergy menu helps a ton with ordering.
Definitely recommend Red Robin for Celiacs.
They have safe gluten free options, but it’s very limited. I had a salad and fries, which even after talking to the waitress about having celiacs, came out with croutons. A manager went back and made sure the food was made safely. I didn’t get sick, but there isn’t a lot you can get without risking cross contamination.
Red Robin has gluten-free buns for their burgers. Many locations also have dedicated fryers for gluten free-fries. Please verify with your server.
they cater to my husband's allergy every time we go there - even comped our meal one time because they sent out non gluten free fries several times by accident
Multiple safe and enjoyable experiences here. Allergies are taken seriously. California Chicken, and most burgers can have a GF bun. Fries are yummy and safe too! Always careful to still insist on a safe area in kitchen, glove change etc. Haven’t gotten sick yet after 6 weeks in a row. Our new Sunday lunch place for now.
