My experience at Rio Grande was anything but grand. I was charged $62 for two bean burritos that weren’t even smothered and they were supposed to be and two gluten-free tostadas that were supposed to have the refried beans no cheese and no tomatoes. None of that was true. I got black beans, cheese and tomatoes. The disappointing thing is I told the person taking the older order that I was celiac dairy, free, gluten-free, soy free nut, free, egg free and could they help me and he pointed me to the entrée that I should get which was the Refried beans with tostadas. for anyone who is a celiac as well as having inflammatory diseases that prevent us from eating dairy and nuts and soy and eggs, you know the pain or the inconvenience of having to cook, prepare every single meal, so when I found a place that said they could prepare a meal for me. I was very excited. I am sure that they are capable of preparing a celiac sensitive meal but at $62 no thank you
I felt very safe here. Almost everything on the menu is gluten free or can be made gluten free. I have not had an enchilada in YEARS, and their gluten free enchilada was delicious and very filling. The portions are great for their price point. I am so full, and I almost wish I wasn’t because they actually have gluten free desert options that aren’t just a scoop of ice cream! Our waiter Ivan was very comfortably knowledgeable about gluten free restrictions. I asked about what the cook would use in place of a four tortilla for a gf burrito option, and he said they would simply just use two corn tortillas wrapped together - not very exciting. And I really appreciated that level of care from him 🙂 Also, my husband ordered the burrito (regular) and it’s definitely a wet burrito. He usually doesn’t like those, but he enjoyed this one! Big parking lot space, so no need to worry about street parking. They have corn hole too! And last but certainly not least, if you’re tired of not having a gf desert option when you go out to eat, I have 3 words for you… Salted Caramel Flan ♥
Very good. They were knowledgeable, menu was clearly marked, and almost everything can be made gf. This is a chain and this location had the best safety reviews for sure. I also have a dairy allergy, and they were great. As they served the guac they made sure to state it was df for an allergy which made me feel good.
new review — chips are all gf and made in a different dedicated gf facility. almost everything is gf again, yay!
(old review) New menu now, mostly the same as before but almost everything can be made gf. The chips for the nachos are not gf, but the chips and salsa set on the table are gf. Waiter was super knowledgeable and let me know that they do have a dedicated gf fryer ... I decided not to risk it and had chicken and steak tacos wrapped in lettuce. Very good!
Staff is knowledgeable and careful with allergens and cross contamination. The server told me that their breading is GF and their fryer is dedicated. All their sauces and salsas are GF as well. The dine-in menu is not marked but they have a GF menu on their website if you scroll to the bottom of the menu. Everything was delicious and service was great. Best of all, no issues afterwards!
Hadn't been here in years! Was super impressed with staffs knowledge of Celiac Disease. Had a margarita, nachos, chips and salsa, and tacos. Was very tasty and I did not have any reaction and I am a sensitive Celiac. Very exciting since a lot of Mexican places don't have much to offer for Celiacs! Highly recommend the GF Beer battered taco!!
I am celiac and had a wonderful experience here, I highly recommend this restaurant. Staff is very knowledgeable, they have a GF menu. The chips and sauces are gluten free, you don’t have to ask for separate chips . As a bonus the fajitas were literally the best fajitas I have ever had . Will be coming back . My daughter is also Celiac, she got enchiladas and did not get sick either.
I ordered the queso with corn tortillas. I ordered off the gluten free options and advised that I had celiac. The server assured me he would bring corn tortillas. Needless to say he brought me flour tortillas. After I bit into it I realized it was not corn. The manager apologized and comped it and we immediately left.
This place is incredible! Most items on the menu are gluten free without any substitutions or upcharges, and most things are sensibly priced! The food is SO flavorful! The staff is awesome and knowledge too! Truly I can say enough good things about this place, other than this: if you go, DON’T leave without trying the tortilla soup. I wish I could have that stuff for every meal. WOW! What a great place!
Fajitas are great and safe with corn tortillas. Marinade on steak is safe because they use tamari, chicken is also safe. Have never had an issue here and most items can be made gf! Chips and salsa are also gluten free, bagged chips not made in a fryer. Gluten free menu is listed online and I just confirm with the server.
Our server was very familiar with gluten fre and asked if it was a preference or a medical reason which was fantastic! Gluten free battered fish tacos were sooooooooi good. Next time I’ll try the relleno
Although menu isn't fully marked with gluten-free options the staff and management are very knowledgeable and willing to explain everything on the menu. They have a separate gluten-free fryer and the only thing that is not gluten-free on the menu is their flour tortillas.
We asked for their gluten free menus, and were pleased to see that there was quite a variety of options to choose from on them. The happy hour menu also had quite a few GF options, which can be unusual. The manager came out and let us know that they have a dedicated GF fryer, and take precautions to prevent cross contamination. My husband had Chile Rellenos for the first time in a long time. Fried not baked! I had steak fajitas and skipped the beans and rice in favor of their mixed vegetables. Everything was well prepared, fresh and delicious. Oh, and we did NOT get sick! We will be back!
Ok GF menu. I got really sick once so I think cross contamination is an issue for them. The other 2 times were ok, but got REALLY sick the one time.
