Ate here last week on vacation. Server was very knowledgeable about safe foods. Menu clearly marked. My daughter and I are both celiac and neither got sick
I ate here twice and didn't get sick. The menu is clearly marked with gluten free options. However, the waitstaff aren't extremely knowledgeable, so I had to ask a lot of questions and they had to check with the kitchen about things like marinades and drink mixes. Here's what I learned: the chips are not fried in shared oil, they are not dusted with flour, and they are made from corn tortillas. I don't know if that means they're from a bag or fried in house, but either way, I didn't seem to have a problem. The beef fajitas are marinaded, but the marinade doesn't contain any flour. The sweet and sour mix used in a margarita on the rocks (frozen is a separate deal with its own mix) is gluten free. Across two visits I tried chips, salsa, queso, Rita's nachos with beef fajita meat and refried beans, and the margarita that is one step up from the basic (I can't remember the name). However, I did ask for the margarita NOT to be shaken, but instead just poured right into the glass and I stirred it myself (shakers are, at best, rinsed out between drinks). I would say if you are EXTREMELY sensitive to cross contamination, you will probably feel as exposed here as you do everywhere else you eat. They didn't inspire extraordinary confidence, but they did ask go find out the answers to all the questions I asked. I would not eat here without asking a lot of questions. But I have Celiac Disease and did not get sick eating here.
Menu says gf options but when I got my food, my corn tortillas were COVERED in flour. Not safe
The chips and salsa were GF. I had the Taco plate, it came with a choice of 2 or 3 tacos, rice and beans. I had them switch the ground beef to fajita beef since I read another post that commented it wasn’t really GF. Since I frequently make my own Mexican rice I know to never eat or trust that it is GF since most tomato sauces, pastes, and bullion is not GF. The beans were okay. Overall I was happy with my dining experience and I didn’t get sick.
Served us flour tortillas even though we ordered off the gluten free menu.
Staff was knowledgeable; a gluten free menu and chips and salsa were also gluten free. Delicious food! Will definitely visit again
gluten free menu lots of choices
Enchiladas are not gluten free according to my server buy they're on the gf menu. I tried them on my first visit, pre-warning and got sick so I asked and was told the sauce is thickened with flour and the tortillas are dipped in shared oil. my server told me the seasoned beef was not safe and then later told me it was ok. I tried beef tacos and didn't feel well after. The gf menu is not to be trusted and the servers don't seem to know much either (one said I couldn't have beans because they have bacon, what?).
The food was good but I agree that their is better Mexican food in San Antonio.
Great, central location on the Riverwalk and pleasant staff. Special gf menu too, but you can do better for Mexican food in San Antonio
They do have a gluten free menu. The waiter I had was knowledgeable. The chicken nachos were really good. I am very sensitive and did not have an reaction. Also ordered Chicken Enchiladas. Veteran and military friendly.
